28 Cents: Result of Fulfilling the Purpose
When it comes to the WA online business model, I've taken a slightly different route than some, which is a much longer-term play as I endeavor to build my own speaking career. So when I started here at WA, I struggled with what niche I was going to attack. I can think of many of them that are good candidates for strong online businesses (and in fact I'm working with a colleague on preparing to launch one at some point in the next few months), but in the meantime, it took me many weeks of WA training, implementation, trial and error to realize what my current niche really was.
It's me. I'm the niche.
My passion has always been to get out and share my experiences to try and help others, as a Speaker, Author and Songwriter. It's been a challenge to narrow it down in terms of how, exactly, to get started. WA has been a HUGE help, assisting me with realizing how much of my creative online work I'd been doing incorrectly, or simply wasn't aware of at all. And there are still all kinds of things I've not gotten to yet, as you can only do so much, but when I look back on the last 5 months, I see progress. Lots of it.
Through it all, I was actually a little surprised at how excited I was when I went into my Amazon Affiliate account, as I've done dozens of times since the summer, to create a affiliate link for posting. I'm not posting high-value products (mostly books or other resources from my podcast guests), and hadn't had any sales yet. But on Monday last week, I saw that I'd made a sale. I'd earned 28 cents through the sale of a book of one of my podcast guests from this past July. I couldn't have been happier!
Success, I believe, is subjective and can be measured any number of different ways. We often think only of money as the gauge. But that only tells part of the story, especially at the outset of a journey.
As one of my recent podcast guests put it: "We confuse PURPOSE with RESULT. For instance, many think that the PURPOSE of a business is to make money. Is it? Or is that the RESULT of fulfilling the PURPOSE?"
Powerful question.
I'm grateful to WA and all of you wonderful fellow members who have played a part in supporting my efforts to fulfill my purpose: to fully express my creativity and to make a positive contribution to the world. The result will come in due time.
