Last Tuesday, I posted about my progress over the last several weeks and I laid out some goals for the coming month.

As it's now the end of the week, I felt it prudent, for my own benefit, to review my goals to see how I'm doing for the month.

It's been an interesting week that has had its ups and downs but I feel it's ended more up than down.

This month's goals

I set myself the following goals to hit by July 10th:

  • Post at least 4 blog posts to my niche website
  • Post at least 2 blog posts to my Bootcamp website
  • For my WA rank to drop from 35 but stay within 200
  • Keep posting to social media every day for my niche site branding
  • Not make any goals regarding WA blog posts. I'll do these if I have the time. :)

Goal Progress

  • I've not created any new blog posts for my niche website (4 to go)
  • I wrote 1 blog post for my Bootcamp website (1 to go)
  • My WA rank has increased to 30. Oops.
  • I have only posted to social media once since the 11th. Oops.
  • I'm posting a weekly update on my progress.

Review of progress

Niche website blog posts (4 of 4 remaining)
I'm a little disappointed in myself for not publishing anything to my nice website all week. I'm going to forgive myself though. I was that focused on writing my first Bootcamp post that I haven't had the time to write a post for my poor, neglected niche website. I'll make amends for that, this week. :)

Bootcamp website blog posts (1 of 2 remaining)
I am exceptionally proud of the blog post that I wrote for my Bootcamp website. It's my review of Wealthy Affiliate and it's 3,600 words long. I never imagined that I'd be able to write that much for a single web-page but somehow, it happened.

[Side affect - an old bucket list item restored - writing a book]
Some time ago I set myself the goal to write a book and I've procrastinated starting it because I didn't think I could write the required number of words. Since I've dived into the training several weeks ago and started writing content as required, my writing skill has improved at an astonishing rate. I'm now thinking of adding the book back on to my long term goal list as it seems much more realistic now. :)

Allow WA rank to increase as I focus on websites
I've found it very difficult to disengage from the WA community to focus purely on my websites. I actually enjoy talking to other members and helping them out but I'm concerned that I'm doing so at the expense of my own progress. I suppose the goal should really be to maintain my rank within the top 200 to ensure I'm helping at least some of the time.

Post to social media every day
This has been an epic fail this week, again because I've been so focused on writing a high-quality first post for my Bootcamp site that I've ignored some of the other WA tasks that require my attention.

There is a good reason this has happened and that's my failure to spend my thirty minutes each morning on my bullet journal.

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

As I've alluded to in the review section above, I have failed to achieve some of the things I particularly wanted to complete this week. The main one was the daily social media posts that were bringing traffic to my fledgling niche site. I've neglected them entirely.

The reason this happened is because normally, I spend thirty minutes each morning, before I get the kids up, planning my day in my bullet journal. I look at the tasks that I need to achieve and reflect on what I achieved the previous day (so I know what needs to be moved forward into today's list).

I've found this to be an exceptionally effective way to focus my attention and overcome procrastination.

Unfortunately, I didn't sleep well this week, my youngest daughter woke me up most of the mornings since Tuesday and I had no quiet space to plan the day.

I find it interesting what an impact that it's had on my week and I'm going to use this as an interesting learning experience. I'm not going to beat myself up over the missed social media posts. I'll just try harder next week.

If you want to find out more about bullet journalling, you can visit the 'original' (rather dull) page or read the much more interesting page that I actually first read about it and fell in love with the idea.

I changed my username

Those of you that follow me regularly may have noticed that I changed my username.

Now that I'm working on the bootcamp lessons, I realised that I might want to be able to separate my work and personal life so a degree of anonymity was probably a good idea.

(Kettei)

The word, Kettei means decision or choice in Japanese. I selected this as a personal reminder that whether I succeed or fail in affiliate marketing is my own choice.

If I choose to write the the required content and post links to it on social media, I will find success. If I choose to binge on Netflix instead of doing that work, I cannot expect to reap the rewards of industry.

I'm still Phil, though. :)

Lots of very good points.

Agree with all you said! Organization, having concrete goals, and a specific plan - so important. Your philosophy of not beating yourself up but focusing on moving forward and doing better is what we all need to do. And please go for that book!

Cyndi

I'll just add the book to my ever-growing list of things to do. :D

I'm thinking that after writing 50 blog posts, I'll have pretty much written the book. I just have to pick my favourite ones, jiggle them about a bit so they flow and make them look pretty in a book. :)

I’m off to read about bullet journaling, but just wanted to say I love reading people’s progress towards their goals.

Good on you for not beating yourself up, by simply acknowledging the problem and finding a way to work around it.

Love the new handle too by the way.

Thanks Heidi!

I fell in love with bullet journalling about two months ago.

It's changed my life (literally). I am the most disorganised person but that's really changed now! :)

Hi kettei you know chinese???

It's funny you should ask that - a friend in Beijing is teaching me... but currently the answer is, "not much".

I can now ask for a beer though. :)

给我一杯啤酒

I just looked at that photo and thought that looks so much like Phil :)

It does, doesn't it? :D
