I just received a notification this morning that Amazon turned me down after the 90 day review. Here is their reason:

“We noticed that you are not using tags assoc

Hi Kerry,

I think you put the Amazon link into your Theme wigged. Did you try putting it on the image's Custom URL? Once you put, you click on the preview and click on the image to make sure if the link works well. If it will work for you it will take you to the Amazon page right where your item is. It is always a good idea to re teste your image link to make sure you will get paid.

Hope this will help you,

Meena

Meena,

Thanks for asking the question. I placed the text and image links in the text version of the page (HTML) instead of using the visual text editor. It shows up fine in the posts and everything seems to work so I don't think that's my issue.

I'm going to contact Amazon and find out if I can get clarification.

Thank you, Meena!

Kerry

You're most welcome! Sorry, this is my nature to try to help.

Hope Amazon will have it fixed for you.

Wish you all the best!

Meena

You don't need to wait; just call and see what they say. They'll let you register.
I have links on my home page to pages and posts that have Amazon product links, that way when they search the home page they are taken to pages that have links to Amazon...
- Ron

Ron,

Thanks for this info.

Have you called them before? I was thinking of doing that but a number wasn't included in the email and I haven't seen one on the Associates site.

Kerry

Hi - assuming that your store ID is oconnellpubli-20, which I can see when I hover over your links, then I can't see a problem. Have you made any sales? If so, and you have been credited with a commission, then clearly your links are directing correctly. I suggest you get in touch with them and ask them to clarify.

Excellent. That was what I thought. I've made my three sales so I'm glad that's not an issue. They said they will pay me the $4-5 that have accumulated so that's fine.

What is your opinion of the best way to contact them? I've emailed them in the past and not received a reply. Maybe I'm not using the best email?

Thank you so much, Diane.

Kerry

Hi - if you click on the Contact Us link, I see there is a Live Chat option. Also, Ferra has sent you a link below that leads to an appeal form.

Hi Kerry,

I am so sorry that happened to you.

You can reapply at any time, they will give you a new store ID, so then you need to change all the amazon links you previously have on your posts.

For more info, please refer to Amazon Associate's page here: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/help/node/topic/GACDBRFKVDTXSPTH

All the best,
Ferra

Thank you so much, Ferra. I hate that I'll get a new ID. That's a bummer, but after going to the link you provided, it seems that's a given.

Thank you!

Kerry

WOW! Sounds like Amazon is difficult!

Hi - Amazon has the strictest rules of any affiliate program. If you just break one rule, you can be banned from their program.

WOW! I did not know this. I am still a newbie of 2 months but thanks for the heads up!

Here is a post I wrote on the subject if you are interested.

Thank you!

They are, John, and for the pittance they now pay, they are not worth my time. Glad I never joined. This is MY opinion only and is not meant to discourage others from joining!

Jeff

Yes I understand Jeff and good advice

Thanks, John! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Jeff

You too Jeff!

Will do, John!

I've been trying to set up my WA email in my Outlook and all of the training that I found on WA aren't working for me. Any help out there?

Thanks!

Kerry

If you are using the newer versions of Outlook like the office 365 then yes, you will have a problem.
I had the same issue.
This is what I did.

Great question and great answer

This should work for you

I'll give it a try.

Thanks, Christopher!

Kerry

It should work :-) created by myself recently with the current version of Outlook 2016/365. Let me know on the training itself if you have any issues.

Site support sent me a video that I'll go over as well.

For some reason my test messages are either going into an inbox for one of my other emails (never seen this before) or the messages aren't coming in at all. I only received one of three test messages, and it was to the wrong inbox.

I'll spend more time on it tomorrow but I ran out of time for tonight.

I'll figure it out and let you know if I find anything that's different from what you wrote.

Thank you!
Kerry

I am also using Outlook, I will give it a try too, thank you.

I have my WA email accounts inside a profile with other IMPAP and Exchange accounts, and I have never seen this behaviour. You will want to check the email address, the incoming mail server, outgoing mail server, the separate credentials for both and the inbox folder (this folder is required for WA email).

No worries are you’re welcome :-)

Yeah, it was pretty weird. Site Support took care of it today so that's not an issue. I'm still working through site support but all the settings seems to be right, Outlook just isn't downloading from the server at this point.

So much closer. Site Support has been great. Almost there!

Kerry

No worries :-)

When you say it is not downloading? Is that just the Inbox? Do your other folders, such as Sent, show any emails? Have you added the Folder Path for the Inbox in your Advanced Settings?

Chrystopher,

I forgot to get back to you on this thread.

Site support had me add Inbox to the root folder path box as you suggested. Everything works now.

I’m not sure what happened the first time I set it up, but starting all over by deleting the account from Outlook seemed to do the trick. BTW, your instructions were more current than the video site support sent me. The only difference was the port number which is set at 587, I believe.

Your help is really appreciated. Thank you so much.

Kerry

You’re welcome Kerry, glad you got it sorted, and yes, 587 is an alternative port to 25 for the outgoing server, where some ISP’s block 25. I will update the training to reflect this, thank you for the reminder :-)

Does anyone have a recommendation for the best way to create internal links on a page so that readers can jump to different sections within a blog page? Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for their helpful advice!

Marion, I was able to use your video for my internal link but the link wouldn't work and I couldn't figure out why. In the end, I installed the TOC+ plugin, that Laura suggested, and that took care of it. For now. When I can figure out another way I'd rather not have to use a plugin just to create a simple link to another part of my page.

I actually tried a couple of things, including pasting the URL for the internal link into the link editor, like Edwin suggested. For some reason, that didn't work either. So, in the interests of getting on with my day, that was why I temporarily added TOC+.

It's so easy to get bogged down in this stuff, isn't it? For now, I'm going to start getting my latest post out to the world and keep driving traffic to my site. Phew!

Thanks again for all the help. And Marion, you have great training videos. I love them!

Kerry

I do exactly what Edwin does.
You can use a plugin but I prefer
to do it manually

Site Content has a link symbol in the menu bar. The way I use it is I copy the URL of the page or post I want to link to. I then highlight a word, phrase or sentence that I want my viewers to click. I then click the link symbol and paste the URL link where shown. You can select if you want the pate to open on a new browser window or not.

In WordPress this works a little differently. I do the same thing, Except a window opens over the text I highlight and want to add the link to. I paste the URL in that window. I them click the gear symbol to the right and select that it opens on a different page.

I am not sure if I answered your question. Please let me know. I hope this helps.

Cheers.

Edwin

I use "table of contents plus" to accomplish this. It is a plugin and very easy to use.

It highlights the H2 and H3 headings and allows your reader to click on the one they want to look at within your post.

Laura

Laura,

Thank you very much for sharing this!
I great plugin that I will begin using.

Cassi

I installed it too Laura. Thanks.

There is a way to claim your website so that it shows up on Pinterest. I would need access to the HTML of my index page or have access to the public html folder but I don't kno

Great question, great answer

Do let me know if you need anything else. Have a nice day.

Hi Kerry,

I'm glad to hear you were able to get your website claimed in Pinterest.

I took the easy way and had SiteSupport do it for me. I thought I might mess things up ...

Have a Blessed Sunday.
Monica

At least we always have other options! I didn't even think about site support. Duh!

Kerry

Correction: Getting to Insert Headers and Footers was located in Settings on the WordPress Dashboard, not in Tools.

For anyone that is interested...

I had to add the plugin "insert headers and footers." Then I went to tools in the WordPress dashboard menu and chose "insert headers and footers." I added the code from Pinterest, saved changes, checked that they were live in my site, and then went back to Pinterest for them to claim my site.

I received an email within about a minute that stated my site was claimed.

Phew! It took a little doing and some help from those of you on WA, but I'm glad I have it done now!

Onward and UPward!

Kerry

Thank you for a wonderful tutorial.

Hi! We learn a lot, don't we? Including from our own honest mistakes. Glad to know you got it all resolved. Happy Sunday.

I did find the place to put the code in SEO Pack but it won't save it when I click Update Options. I even signed in again and it still won't save the code. Frustrating...

I've been reading the different articles on affliliate disclosure statements, but I notice nothing on sites that run straight ads. I was wondering if I'm missing something or i

Good question and great answers

Ads means you wanted to earn fro it. You need it.

Even for standard advertising i.e. no affiliation

If you would not earn anything from it, fine, no need.

No unless you're earning from promoting affiliate links.

Best wishes.

If it is only an ad and not an affiliate link, then it's obviously an ad.

If there is an affiliate link involved and you could receive a commission, then you must disclose that.

Thanks, Jeanine. So a brief disclosure statement below the affiliate link could link to a longer version somewhere else, correct? ( I realize for Amazon they have a specific one that is short).

And then for ads, no statement needs to be placed near them.

I appreciate your help.

Kerry

Actually the disclosure must appear prior to the first affiliate link. Most people just put it at the top of their post. It really doesn't mess up the visitor's experience. While you can expand the version on another page, you must have all the minimums on each page.

"This post contains affiliate links. Should you click through and make a purchase, I may receive a commission."

Excellent. Thank you. As part of the course, I’m at the point where it is time to include an affiliate link and I wanted to make sure I was including everything I need to.

Thanks!

Kerry
