WA Community - Big Ego or Self-Confident? - A "Newbie's Perspective"

Ego - A person's sense of self esteem of importance.
Self confidence - A feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgement.

If you say someone has a big EGO, then you are saying they are too "full of
themselves." The signs that this exists are:

- finding yourself being defensive
- comparing yourself to others
- seeking acceptance to justify your EGO needs
- showcasing your brilliance

EGO is probably in control when the following is true -

- that you have view of others as a rival and plotting ways to beat him/her
- taking it personally if someone disagrees with you
- reacting negatively if someone else has the same idea first
- being critical of ideas by others without considering their value
- going along with someone just to "keep up with the crowd"
- comparing others' external environments to your own (status or
wealth, without regard for inner values)

ALL of us are subject to falling into this category and have to apply self correction methods to prevent this from happening; otherwise, the
appropriate honest self reflection would have to be "OMG - I ARE ONE!"

The overall moral of this posting is to maintain a demeanor consistent with
good manners around others. These mannerisms only serve to enhance your reputation as a person that others want to associate with.

As a rule, people respect others that treat them as an equal, with respect and
are sensitive to their wants and needs. No one cares for individuals who are in "love with themselves."

"Ego is a disease that makes everyone sick except the person with the disease." - Unknown

"You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realized
how seldom they do." -Eleanor Roosevelt

"If you live your life as if everything is about you....You will probably be left
with just that. Just you. -jamienicolescott.com

Having stated the obvious conclusions and statement of facts listed above, I
offer the following observation concerning the Wealthy Affiliate Community,
although I have not been here that long:

- There are strong opinionated people that interact on a daily basis, but
most know what they are talking about or else they would not be allowed
to continue in this role.

- These individuals sometimes express themselves in a manner that
some people don't like and sometimes get extremely upset.

- Even though these events occur, there is no INTENT to "talk down"
to anyone, but are in a position to interact in order to: solve a problem,
provide guidance to those needing assistance and acting in the best
traditions of WA by "paying it forward."

- Members who take offense to these actions should regard this as self
confidence in their ability to assist and are NOT displaying a "BIG EGO!"
I would also offer here that each of us has experienced similar instances
at work, school or social events; therefore, you should not be
surprised now.

- Finally, I would caution you to "take it with a grain of salt" as these
individuals are taking time away from their mission to assist you,
so please be tolerant with them because when you are in their shoes
and providing help to others that maybe YOUR reaction might just
be the exactly the same.

Additional thought - Kyle and Carson have worked diligently to establish and
maintain the integrity of WA and that is why our reputation is regarded to be
so impressive. In my humble opinion, they would never condone ANY
behavior that would jeopardize this!

In conclusion, the following quotes, seem most fitting to the overall purpose
of this post:

"Stay true in the dark
&
Humble in the Spotlight"
-Harold Bole

"Confidence and arrogance are not the same. You don't have to be rude to be
confident. You just have to like who you are and be proud of who you are, with
enough grace, and that makes people around you, like you too."
-Jay Sean-Addicted2Success.com

"Talent is god-given
Be humble
Fame is man-given
Be grateful
Conceit is seldom-given
Be careful"
-John Wooden

"Knowledge makes people humble. Arrogance makes people ignorant."
-prophetbuh.com

I sincerely hope that the above post is received in the same manner that it
was delivered. The very best wishes for the success of the entire WA
Community.

Until next time..................................................

great perspective, I however doubt that ego can be separated from self confidence though. Especially when that confidence is in the early stages of development. In my opinion, people are very important and are entitled to think of themselves as such. Otherwise, their would not be dreaming and a sense of self importance, a firm belief that you are unique to everyone else and destined to achieve and accomplish what has not been accomplished is essential to future success.

Hey Lincoln,
Thanks for your comments and perspective. Appreciate you
taking time to read it. It is always important to get feedback
to gauge the feelings of others.

Thanks for your comments.

You are welcome and thanks for reading and commenting.

It seems to me that you have a well defined reason for posting this long and considerate post. I myself have not yet met anyone who behaved in an inappropriate way. But I know, there are those in every community.
I only doubt that they would read your post, and if they did, they wouldn't probably know what you are talking about as they see themselves in quite a different way. It is a matter of growth and development what you can see and what not.

Hey Heidi,
Thanks for your comments and I understand. I only posted what
I observed and as the title indicates, it is from my perspective.
Each person has the right to their own opinion and we have each
expressed ours.

Thanks Rick.

There are a lot of smart people in the WA community and I am surprised I haven't witnessed a battle of the egos as of yet. One reason may be folks appreciate what they have here in WA - this seems to be a popular theme in the newbie profiles I've been reading. Great post, thanks Ken.
