This is why you should NEVER remove any old contents from your website.

Sometimes, choosing a niche can be the most difficult thing when setting up your website. You would spend months producing contents, and realize that you're not in the right niche.

Out of frustration, it's tempting to remove all the unrelated contents from the website.

  • You worry that the unrelated blog post will hamper your SEO rating. (No, it doesn't).
  • You're thinking that your audience may not be interested in topics that don't fall withing your main niche (Again, that's untrue.)
  • You're obsessed about being perfect. (Perfectionism hinder success.)

About a year ago, I was about to delete dozens of articles from my website. Thankfully, Kyle stopped me at the right time and I'm glad I didn't.

Today, I woke up to an email that says I have an additional $124.50 in PayPal. It took me more than a second to figure out about the program that sends me the payment.

I've never been actively writing/promoting about this program for more than a year. In fact, it was a program/topic that I decide that do not belongs to my current niche. (I'm having 2nd thoughts now).

  • I don't know what's the ranking of the said article.
  • There's only a single link to that program in my entire website.
  • I'm not sure if the audience are even engaged with the content.

But that doesn't matter.

I'm thankful that I didn't delete any of my old articles, even if I feel that they are not relevant. I'm grateful for Kyle's advice.

So, if you're struggling to find a niche, I'll say keep producing content while you're searching for the right niche.

Sometimes, finding a niche takes more than spending 30 minutes on the screen. As long as you're passionate, it will be fruitful in the end.

All the best to you, and don't send old contents into the bin.

Cheers,
Kenny

That was a great surprise, Kenny :-)

I read another blog post recently in which a member said he deleted loads of tags and content from his site and G dropped it from the rankings, never to recover. So I guess unless you're totally going to kill off a site, you should keep all the content.
Ian

Yes Ian. Never ever take off contents. Some readers may just love them.

Absolutely, Kenny! You're the perfect example of why old content, even if they are unrelated to the new direction of your website, should never be deleted. You don't know who you might still help, and like you, it may end up making you money... :)

I owe Kyle many thanks for the advice.
