In the small village I grew up in we had three milk delivery services which as as time moved on, well two disappeared as people bought their milk from shops.
However one flourished. I said to my Mum why do we still use him. She said:
"He always turns up and goes the extra mile if I need eggs, he says hello and I get a free carton of cream at Christmas and card".
He totally bucked the trend and grew his business. He sold it for a lot of money but it went bust quickly as the new guy forgot he was not really a milk sales man.
I realised afterward the original guy was in the business of people, stablilty and company. My Mum loved that. The milk was just a side show.

... yes, the personal touch or personal connection seems to be a by-gone era ... or is it? ...
... sounds so lovely, a quaint village ... i've had this vision of meadows lately and would love to find a village (with all the needed services / amenities / food) to live where a car is not a requirement to get around in ....
.... however, having gotten used to this 'modern convenience' lifestyle, the romantic notion of wild flower meadows and wee villages must be something of the past, or is it? ....
..... anyway, i think my preference is still a seaside, ocean breezes with warm temperatures year-round is still the way to go .... so much more liberating than being cloistered up with winter coats and such ...
.... if you had any place on earth where you'd like to live, where would this place be? .... this is a question i still ask myself ...
