Practice makes Perfect Especially in Writing

Good Day Wealthy Affiliate Friends,

I hope everyone is doing well. A little bit of context...

In high school, I was a terrible writer. My mother was my editor. No matter what I did I just could not write.

In college, I no longer had my mother as my editor so I was on my own. It took me a long time to get to a point where I could put a good paper together. I never gave up. Thankfully my college professors let us turn in drafts so we could get some feedback. I took them up on the offer.

In my college employment, I had to write reports and grants. I was able to land a couple of millions of dollars in grants but I hired a good editor to help. I also have a couple of books to my name that I wrote in 1999-2000. Writing never came easy to me but I kept on trucking.

During my doctoral studies, we had lots of papers to write for the six years of my doctoral studies. I was able to get a few of my papers published over the years.

A few years ago I was hired by a company to write reading assignments for labs. I suggested that faculty and students would appreciate the context, theory, and concepts of the lab written. They hired me to do them which I was surprised about. Boy, was I right!

These reading assignments got so many kudos that I write 2-3 five-page reading assignments a week and I get paid around $100/hr to do them. I have written hundreds of these reading assignments and close to a thousand of them. That is a lot of writing.

And now...I write blog posts also. I would not say that I am an excellent writer but I get through with the help of Grammarly.

The moral of the story is this. You can get better at writing if you put your mind to it, learn from your mistakes, keep improving, and don't give up. Over time you will get better and practice does make perfect.

Cheers,

Keith

As with anything, if you have the right mindset, time, energy and tenacity, you can achieve all that you desire.

You are right -- For all those people who say, "but I can't write," the thing they need most is practice. Writing is just like any other skill you learn...the more you practice it, the better you will get.

Super progress, Keith.
No writing is perfect; it gets better with consistent practice.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Awesome, Keith! Keep getting better and better!

100% agree.
Nobody is born good at anything. We all need to learn and practice to improve our skills.
This is an amazing example of you going above and beyond what you could have ever imagined possible when in high school!

Thanks, you have to be willing to take constructive criticism and be humble so you can get better.
