Good Day Wealthy Affiliate Friends,

Well, I did it. It has been a long road over the last two years to be able to run a half marathon. I was just diagnosed in October and put on the AIP diet which has made a difference.

I challenge myself in January to run in a Half Marathon that was canceled the last two years. So, I said why not!

The training was going as planned until I injured myself fixing a dang toilet. That was two weeks ago. I have a deep-thigh bruise that is finally looking better and I did not reinjure it today thankfully.

Normally for me, I like to run over the winter and work up to a half. I was too sick until January to really start training. I did run 6, 10, 12, and 8 over the last month. I needed to run one more run of 13 miles but never materialized. I kept myself in shape though.

I knew that I am not in ideal shape to do this but I did not let that get in the way. My goal was 2:40 and I ran it in 2:34. Not bad, considering. It was a beautiful day in the 70s.

My Results

Here are my results -

1,597 Overall Place
Division: MALES 50-54
101 Division Rank
972 Gender Rank
11:45 Pace
02:34:01 Final Time

Description of Course

"The 13.1 mile course features historical attractions; a quaint downtown with unique shops and chef-owned restaurants; a run alongside the Rappahannock River; and the now-famous Hospital Hill. Ideally situated halfway between Washington, DC, the nation’s capital and Richmond, the capital of the Commonwealth, the Marine Corps Historic Half introduces runners to Fredericksburg, VA, an ideal weekend getaway spot."

I was doing very well until about 7 miles and ended up running and walking after that.

Here is a pic of me and my best friend before the race. I am on the right.

The Marines put on a good race every year. Here is what I saw as I was coming to the finish.

Here is the after pic of both of us after the run. Amazing we are both smiling.

If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish your goals and more. I plan on continuing to run and get into better shape for the fall. I have a 5K in a couple of weeks.

Have a great day!

Cheers,
Keith

Well-done. I'm sure it took lots of determination and mustering of stamina to make it, but you did it! I'm sure you are proud of the achievement, as well you should be. You're a good example to others who want to try something but doubt their ability to do it.

Thanks, yes for sure because I was not in the best shape. With all my health issues it was great to get back into again after a three-year hiatus.

I am glad you finished.
My walk in the woods was very muddy. Slipped in the mud several times. Sprained ankle with 3 miles to go. Made it back. Will have to rest a couple of days before more training hikes.
Congrats on your finish, you had several obstacles to overcome.

Thank you, you also had some obstacles to overcome too. I wish you luck going forward.

2 weeks to go. Every step is a pain today. Have to get back on the trail tomorrow.
John

What an inspiration to the rest of us. A powerful lesson for us too. Life's challenges and obstacles can be overcome, with hard work, dedication and persistence. Congrats and thank you Keith
