I don't, I use Coding and place them in the menu. Please see the examples I created for the community on the WA web space . TeddyBearPoop1 on the SiteRubix.com domain.

You can also change the 1 out for 2 and then 3 .

If you like this let me know and I will create a training here on the WA platform.

I went to where I think you asked me to check out, but I'm not sure it was the correct place. This is where I went: http://teddybearpoop1.siterubix.com/

Are you talking about the icons you have at the top next to the phone number? Or about the ones at the bottom under "follow me"?

Both. You can also see how I put them in the menu at teddybearpoop2 & 3 as well.

These are just examples I created for the community to get ideas from. Check out the different pages. Please feel free to use any idea you get.

I like the ones you have on teddybearpoop2. You had mentioned you would be willing to create a training. I would be interested, since I know absolutely nothing about writing code. Is there a way to place the icons in the side bar?

Sure. There are many ways to do everything on the web. Monday I'll create a trainer and give you the coding in the description.

Hi, Kathy!

I use a plug-in called "Social Icons" on my existing sites, but recently discovered the Divi WordPress theme which comes with a social plug-in called Monarch. I'm in the process of redesigning a website for a local client and I'm using Divi and Monarch for the job.

"Social Icons" has served me well and it's easy to use, but I'm so impressed with Divi and Monarch all of my new sites will be built using them. Divi is pricey and costs about $90 a year or a one time cost of about $250 for lifetime access and it took me a week to feel confident using it, but it will build any style of website imaginable.

"Social Icons" is free. You can't beat free.

Gary

Thanks Gary. I have looked at Divi and it is definitely something I would like to explore in the future. Free is good right now. I will explore Social Icons.
Kathy

I don't use any special plugin, I have it already on my theme settings.

Which theme are you using? Having it as part of your theme would be awesome!!!

What theme are you using? I am currently using Twenty Sixteen--it's not already built into my theme settings. Or at least I don't think so.

Social Media Feather is popular amongst members. https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/social-media-feather/

Thank you. I will check it out.

No probs. you're most welcome! :)

Thanks for raising the issue, Kathy, as I got exactly the same message after experimenting on Pinterest as per Kyle's Bootcamp Course 4 lesson 2. Now I know why.

Giulia

Thank you all for your quick responses. I'm guessing from what you all are saying, things have changed a bit since Kyle first did the training. :)

Most social media doesn't like affiliate links. Always link back to an interesting post on your website. You can put your affiliate links in your website but not on social media.

Pinterest does not accept most affiliate links of any kind anymore.

I'm speculating a bit here -- Does your link require that visitors sign up for WA before they can see the content? If so, see below from the pinterest advertising guidelines:

"If you require people to take an action (like signing up) before they can see certain content, your ad should make that clear."

If this is the problem with links on pinterest, I'd suggest linking (using a non-affiliate link) to a page on your site. You can place your WA affiliate link on that page.

It i one of the reasons I really do not use any social media.

I have not heard about this issue, though, interesting

oh no, does it?

Hey Kathy,

Here is their guidelines: https://policy.pinterest.com/en/advertising-guidelines. You might want to review them to see if something stands out to you that you may be doing wrong.

Pinterest users now have more control over the content they see thus targeting the right people is becoming more and more important than before.

Did you make a board like "affiliate marketing ideas" or "affiliate marketing" or did you post images under titles that were not related to affiliate marketing?

These are questions you need to be able to answer for yourself. No need to reply to these here.

Not every SM algorithm is friendly to WA. You can write to them, change your link or use another SM.

Hey Kathy,

Sounds like your WordPress theme is somehow conflicting with their iframe. I second Marion Black's advice in advising you to upload your video to YouTube and THEN embed it on your site. That way you problem is solved!

It worked! Thank you so much!

Hi, Kathy!

Contact the support people associated with your theme. They should be able to help you.

Gary

Ah...I never thought of that. Where would I find that information? I am guessing some place on the theme page?

Once again, thank you for coming to my rescue. I am finding that the further I get in this process of training and building a website, I am having more questions...

Oh well, I guess that's the nature of the beast. :)
Kathy

Hi, Kathy,

When I visited your website, I saw the name of your theme at the bottom of the home page. I clicked on the theme name and it took me to theme makers website. Follow that and see if you can find support. I notice too that 6 months of support come with the theme.

Keep me posted,

Gary

Hi Gary,
I have contacted my theme support team, and I am waiting for them to respond. I will let you know what happens.

Hi, Kathy!

Another thought occurred to me. If you upload your video to YouTube, YouTube will frame it properly.

Everything below here is good for a solution...

Hey Kathy,

Did you upload your video to your YouTube channel and then embed it on your website?

Hi Trish,
I embedded it on my website. Since this is my very first attempt at making a video, I haven't ventured to You Tube yet. I'll wait until I have a little more video making under my belt. :)

Kathy

Hey Kathy,

That may be the reason you're having issues.

What did you use to embed your video? And, more importantly, where did you upload your video to ... the website server?

You might find this post VERY helpful: http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-easily-embed-videos-in-wordpress-blog-posts/

Hi Trish,

I created my video with screencast-o-matic. Then I first published it to screencast-o-matic so I didn't have to take up space on my hard drive. Then I copied the embed code created by screencast-o-matic, and pasted it in my text editor.

Their tech support has gotten back to me and they are looking into the issue too. At this point, they have asked me to supply them with the code.

This is where I am at now.

Thank you for all your help. I will read the post you shared.

Hey Kathy,

By seeking the support of where your video is stored is the BEST idea ... always. Thanks for letting me know.

Don't be afraid to start a YouTube channel. We all have to start somewhere. Some of my videos are to laugh at I'm sure, but they're still offered in my channel.

Would you private message me your channel? I'd like to take a look.

Done!

Hi, Kathy!

I think the black is caused by the difference between the height and width ratio of your material and the height and width ratio of the Screen Cast-o-Matic.

Where can I see the video?

Gary

Hi Gary,
Since this is my very first attempt at creating a video, I have only embedded it to my website. I haven't ventured to Youtube yet. This will be a later action, I am sure...

Hi, Kathy!

I haven't used Screen Cast-o-Matic in a few years, but here's what I think is happening.

Your video is a long rectangle on its side and your website is trying to fit it into a square. When you click on your video for a full-screen view, it fills the screen perfectly.

Can you change the dimensions of the square box containing the video?

If the video is in the media library of your website, I think you can change the dimensions the same as if it were an image. Try changing the dimensions to be the same as the video.

Gary

Hi Gary,

The video is not in my media library. I first published my video to Screen Cast-O-Matic. Then I copy and pasted the embed code provided by them.

I have visited many WA sites as well as other sites on the web, and some have a static homepage and others do not. Are their benefits to having one over the other, or is it jus

It comes down to personal preference and how you want to structure your website. I have done both and I have found that one of the pros to having a blog roll over that of a static page is better UX, User Experience.

Being that I publish posts at a 7 to 1 ratio compared to pages, having a blog roll gives my website home page a higher ranking because it is updated with fresh content and a new internal link with every publish. Google likes this.

Though you can have more control with a static page, telling your visitors what your website is about like others have said, using a blog roll shows that your website is constantly being updated and it provide a good UX by offering multiple selections

Remember, having a good UX will lead to better SEO because UX is one of Google's ranking factors. That's my two cents.

Hey Kathy,

Doing a quick Google search for "pros and cons of having a static homepage" (without the quotation marks, of course), I found several posts sharing their thoughts.

Here's one of those posts with two different view points: https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-pros-and-cons-of-having-a-static-front-page-on-a-wordpress-blog-website

Bob and Gary are both correct...it ultimately depends on what you want...

With a static home page, you have complete control over what your first-time visitors see when they enter your site's URL to access your site. Many people like having this level of control.

With a blog roll on your home page, your most recent blog posts appear there. The only control possible is to designate a blog post as "sticky" so that it remains at the top of your blog roll. Newer posts are then placed below that sticky post.

Hi, Kathy!

That's a good question. I like posting articles on my front page that I want to promote and putting the blogroll in the sidebar. Not every theme will do this, but it looks good and I'm getting positive results with it.
