People are watching you...

Just because you can't hear them saying anything,

Or because they are not leaving a comment ...

Doesn't mean they're not out there.

Watching... Reading... Observing

Thinking about what you have said

Rest assured...

Your hard work won't be in vain.

Someone can hear you

It just might not be who you think it is.

Today something interesting happened to me.

Recently we gave a sponsorship donation to Aaron, a talented grassroots Hip Hop artist in our town. Aaron is raising money to do a youth tour around the country at local schools.

This afternoon, Aaron called in to thank us for our donation and to drop in some merchandise and just before he left he said ...

"I was thinking about that post you wrote about teenagers..."

What post? I racked my brains quickly.

Then I remembered. It was my WA post about my unruly website, which I had likened to a teenager. Not sure if you read it, but I decided that my website should be called Ryan... Anyway, I digress.

"What about that post?" I ask

"Well, think of a teenagers room as an expression of themselves, it's their creative outlet and it might look random from the outside. Ummm, like, I've moved into a new flat and now I've got shit everywhere..." he said, trying to articulate what he was thinking.

"Okay... I'm not sure where you're going with this..."

"Well, you know it might look random, because teenagers are still forming their identity, and coming up with ideas and being creative is a way of trying stuff on for size. But you know, it all works out in the end. A bit like your website. You've got all these bits and pieces, but eventually you'll find the right place for them, and everything will fit together."

And with that, he was off.

I stood there thinking... WOW. That was amazing. Not only had Aaron articulated a wonderful insight into my own journey - he also had thought about my blog post in the context of his life, the social circles he lives, breathes and works in.

Fascinating.

But here's the point - my fellow Wealthy Affiliate peeps...

I didn't even realise Aaron read my posts. He's never left a comment, and as mentioned, we operate in completely different social circles. Yet read it, he had.

Don't assume (just because you're not getting comments) that no one is reading.

There will be people are out there reading, observing and thinking about what you are writing and what you are doing. (And possibly wondering if they could do it too.) They just might not have the confidence to write a comment, or perhaps they're not the commenting / feedback type of person.

Your audience IS out there. And they are real live people.

  • What does your writing tell them about you?
  • How do you want to be perceived by them?

It's definitely given me some food for thought, and I'd love your feedback on this one.

Would love some comments on this one!

Cheers, Karen

Hi Karen!

Awesome awesome post...
From so many angles and for so many reasons!

I have Parkinson’s Diisease with a Michael J. Fox level hand, arm and full body tremor 24/7/365!

There are days after I type out my Website posts that. I have no more physical strength to comment!

Vice dictation is problematic as well due to vocal chord weakness!

So, not getting comments from people we know online can occur for many reasons, despite us being a big fan of the author/blogger!!!

I’m a big fan of your work!

“Shaky Barb” Lolol!

PS What a wonderful young man....would love to hear his music!

wow, I had no idea and I am now feeling quite humbled that you took the time to write this reply! Thank you. Aaron is on Spotify if you are interested, he goes by the name AI (for Aaron Intemann). Best wishes, and thanks for dropping by, Cheers, Karen

Hiya, I've been in touch with Aaron and here's the link to his music on Spotify. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4eSH3kPYHPc3erc8c4117t
Enjoy. Cheers, Karen

Thank you! I will go listen !!!!

awesome, he'll be chuffed!

Funny Karen, I was just thinking the same thing, about friends and family who have not left a comment. I know they read the posts, because I get comments (verbal). Thanks for sharing.

Yip. I'm sure that my mum doesn't really understand the concept of affiliate marketing and liken the whole topic to paint drying... yet she seems proud of my efforts hahaha... but I cringe when I hear her trying to articulate what it is I do. Oh well... it's not for everyone, Cheers, Karen

Wow! that is interesting, you never really know who is watching or visiting. It sounds like you can focus on a niche and expect a certain audience which is probably the case most of the time; however, can attract many people in many different aspects.

Absolutely. I still maintain that we need to write with our intended audience in mind - after all we can't be all things to all people, but hey you never know whose out there. It's quite cool really. Cheers, Karen

Well said, Karen. People are reading our posts for sure and there are everywhere.

We need the comments but eventually, The Silent Ones will gain our trust and begin to engage.

Cheers!
David

Hi David... WELL SAID. That's so true. Thanks for sharing, Cheers, Karen

You are welcome, Karen!

Great story Karen and very true. You just never know...

~Mark :)

Hi Mark - ain't that the truth! And who knew!! Thanks for reading. Cheers, karen

Oh wow!! how cool was that! Good on your for sponsoring a grass roots community idea and good on you for being open to receiving a wonderful message from a total stranger.

That was a great coincidence.

Good on you Karen......now to make that tale into an RV journey with a great ending. Onwards and upwards.

haha... I need to collect some of these stories don't I? It's stuff like this that makes the journey so worth while. All the best, and thanks for reading. Cheers, Karen

Hi Karen

I read your previous article and thought that is just what I feel my sites are. I seem to remember that I made a comment.

Thank you for this feedback it is most inspiring and gives me some hope which at the moment I have little of.

God bless
Naomi

Hi Naomi, Oh no are you okay? If you ever need a hand or want to bounce ideas off me, just send me a PM ok? Take care, cheers, Karen

Oh Naomi.... If you need some ideas or and comment or 2 on one of your posts, send me a PM as well.
Thinking of you.

Nice story! I’m glad you’re connecting with such nice people. He sounds great, and well-deserving of your patronage!

Yes, for good or for bad, your living is entwined with others’. Online and off. :)

There was a period in my life when I was on a good many stages, or in front of lecture groups. When your daily fare is filled with this kind of work, you grow accustomed to people saying HI in unexpected places, and reaching out to you about ‘the thing you said’. You may not even know their names, but that’s just the way it is. Even now, years into my hermitude, I bump into people at checkout who doubletake and then say... oh HI! It’s nice.

So what can we do with these human connections? Do we run? Do we embrace them?

Bloggers, though they may understand the concept of an audience, may not realise that their work puts them in a similar position, for good or for bad! But it can be for the best if we want it to. Run and hide? Or love everyone? I swing wildly between the two sometimes, lol.

Hi Ivy, I totally hear you! It's weird because normally my online ventures and my real life don't really overlap in any way, but I guess as I get more serious about this business there is going to be a crossover. Oh and yes, Aaron is awesome - I love the fact that he's such a go getter! Cheers, Karen

Totally awesome for sure. One light turns on another light of inspiration.

Nice. That’s a really cool saying. Thanks for reading

Awesome and wonderfully put. This is very encouraging, thanks for sharing!! :)

Thank you. He really did blow my mind when he came out with what he said. But as you say, totally encouraging! Thanks for reading. Cheers, Karen
