How to create a free website for a small business or blog

Last Update: January 24, 2018

Welcome to your amazing new adventure!!

If you've been thinking about building an online income through blogging, or just writing about your passion - you've come to the right place. With SiteRubix at Wealthy Affiliate you can learn how to create a free website for a small business or blog and have it up and running in just minutes.

New Horse? New Project? You've come to the right place...

It's a bit of an unusual heading I know, but you see, I've always been a mad keen horse rider - and it was with a 'project horse' where my passion for blogging was first sparked. Way back in the early 2000's I wanted a way to document the progress with my new horse, his training, and the milestones we achieved together along the way. It was one hell of a ride and we shared some crazy adventures!

It's great to look back and reflect on the challenges and the fun times we had.

My Blogs of yesteryear

My first blog was created using Google Blogger, which provided a pretty basic website builder and limited functionality.

At the time, I thought I was such a 'computer whiz kid,' and I soon started building websites for other people including our local Riding for Disabled group, a Big Brass Band, and even a holiday home for rent (that was way before AirBNB took the world by storm). I was a ground breaker of new and innovating things in my own lunch time!

Once I started writing I couldn't stop...

Writing was my drug of choice. It's rather addictive!

Over the years I've written regular blogs on a myriad of topics including:

  • My horses :)
  • A book review site (of all my favorite reads)
  • My weightloss journey - I even kept a graph of all the ups and downs along the way, in fact I've been capturing my weekly weight for well over 10 years now (how tragic is that LOL)
  • Having a complete career change which involved moving to an unfamiliar town
  • Midlife and all the fun and games that go with that
  • Writing a novel

Over time, I realized that WordPress is the best platform to build a blog or a website on as it could grow and expand with my changing needs. There's a plug-in for just about everything you'd ever want to do with your website, whether it's building an affiliate site, or an online store, growing a subscriber list - you name it, WordPress will have a plug-in to do the job.

SiteRubix at Wealthy Affiliate sits on the WordPress platform. The thing that I LOVE most about SiteRubix at WA is that it seamlessly integrates everything with WordPress and it makes it super easy to build and maintain websites and blogs - it's perfect for beginners but has the horsepower (pun intended) to scale up as the user becomes more expert.

These days.

I look back over the last decade (or so) and I'm still amazed by the journey my humble little 'horse' blog has taken me on.

Not only did it unleash my passion for writing, but I also realized along the way that there were ways to monetize my blogs to make extra income from them. I've had quite a few false starts over the years, dabbling with ad-sense, Amazon and other random affiliate programs all with varying degrees of success.

But it was when I signed up for a free website with SiteRubix that my income earning potential from blogging was fast tracked. I think the main reason is that the training here is AMAZING and it provides a clear blueprint for any blogger or website enthusiast who wants to learn the skills needed to make money online.

2018 is shaping up to be an amazing year...

Don't get me wrong, it hasn't all been candy floss and puppy dogs. Earning an income online through affiliate marketing is hard work and yes, it does take time. There's a certain amount of stubborn determination required to succeed, as well as a commitment to keep writing when you're wondering if it's going to pay off.

It's a bit like training a young horse really. Those little break through moments create the foundations that you shape and unleash the full potential of your four legged friend.

Good horsemanship has similarities to building an online business, both take patience, time, energy and a whole lot of passion... and yes there will be setbacks, but when you get those wins along your journey - everything is 100% worth it.

This year my online goal is to be a Super Affiliate and to help others achieve their own dreams, whether that's creating a personal journal, blog or building their own online affiliate business based on something they love.

What does 2018 hold for you?

I'd love to hear from you, so please drop me a comment below :)

Dream BIG - and let's make 2018 the most amazing adventure yet!

Best wishes, Kaz

Hi DrTad - Great to hear from you! I know exactly what you're saying! I use Trello for this, it's fantastic and it is great to get that all important 'to do list' down first thing in the morning. Actually I've started a 30 day action plan and have broken this down into daily goals - it's a perfect way to see how much progress I've made through the week. Thanks for your comments, cheers, Karen
