How do you deal with FEEDBACK posted as a COMMENT on your site?
Hey there,
We all need comments on our websites right? And before I get too far into this post, I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has actually taken the time to respond to my request in the 'give and take' thread for site comments. Participating in this way is a huge part of this online community and something that makes it, and the people here, so awesome! :)
But... here's a gentle and timely reminder - there is a real different between comments and feedback.
COMMENTS
Comments on another members website should be about the topic of the blog post. Some examples of this could be:
- stating whether you agree or disagree with the points put forward by the blog post author
- asking a question
- adding more information to the discussion to give a different point of view, or to add more detail to a certain aspect of the post
- provide some further insight to the discussion by talking about your own experience of that topic/product etc.
Here's a good example of a recent comment:
Conversely; below is an example of feedback:(As you can see, this response talks about the structure, editing, format of the post. This is feedback. Not a comment.)
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE FEEDBACK <3 <3
But please please please think about the difference between the two and give feedback here within the Wealthy Affiliate platform - not on another persons actual website or blog.
How to manage feedback in the comment section of your blog?
One way of dealing with unwanted comments in your blog is to simply delete the comment. It is recommended that you do this for spam etc.
However, if there are some aspects of the comment that you don't mind publishing you could simply delete the bits of the comment you don't like by using the 'quick edit' feature:
Delete the bits you don't want, then save and publish as normal.
Conclusion:
- Delete obvious SPAM comments they do not help your website in any way shape or form.
- Encourage feedback from each other, whether that's on your WA profile, using the feedback function within the WA platform, via WA discussion boards or via WA private message. The common denominator here is: give receive feedback WITHIN Wealthy Affiliate. This is our safe place to share, support, learn and help each other improve.
- If you can still use parts of the feedback left as a comment, then use the quick edit to delete the unwanted feedback, then publish. HOWEVER: use this sparingly! It is not good practice to make a habit of manipulating your comments received.
Hope this helps and I sincerely hope this hasn't come across as a rant, as it's not intended to be one.
All the best with your websites and let's keep sharing the love :)
Onwards and upwards,
Cheers, Karen

Yes, there still seems to be some confusion between comments and feedback. I think your post clearly explains the difference.
Good and timely post. I have also noticed feedback on other members websites in the comments column thinking that it doesn`t "feel" right. Keep the feedback within WA.
Paul.
It came across okay as an opinion. It must have because I read it all the way to the end. When its a rant I normally switch off half-way through. (My own personal indicator).
Regards, Paul.
Very imformative.... Sometimes we can confused with what a comment and feedback mean and this is very helpful. Thank you for sharing..
Hiya again Joyce, Yip it's easy to get tempted to focus on the cosmetics, but it's important we remember that those comments get read by any potential visitor to our fellow WA members sites ... hmm food for thought? Cheers, Karen
I was very impressed with a post and gave someone a very genuine compliment as a comment and this was construed as feedback and disapproved, so now I am not very likely to use the comments feature at all
Hi Hilary, what a shame - I think we all need to value the comments we receive - after all they tell google that our websites are active and receiving genuine traffic. Thanks for sharing, and please don't be put off by your experience. Cheers, Karen
If it’s constructive criticism, I will take note of it to make the changes but I will not approve it. I will ask the person if they want to change their comments but that’s the end of the story for me. I’m to busy to give it any more thought that.
Rick
Thanks Rick, that's a good approach as well - by letting the person commenting know, they can learn too. Cheers, Karen
Hey Karen, thank you for sharing this and certainly very helpful as it also gets me thinking to give better comments.
I usually find with bit of tweaking thru editing I can salvage the comment. Sometimes, it's hard to tweak when it is totally not a comment... i get that too and for me it feels somewhat depressing because the time was taken to give back quality feedback for real feedback or quality comments for real comment.
Yip, I hate deleting comments - after all we work hard to get them - and someone has taken the time to read my post and write something meaningful! Thanks for sharing. Cheers, karen

Thank you Karen for commenting on the difference between comments and feedback. The more we learn from each the better we can help one another.
