Email List Building with online sweepstakes and giveaways

Hi WA peeps,

So it's been an interesting few days for me and I really wanted to share with you all as it may be useful in your own online efforts.

I've started focusing on email list building and really trying to grow my Facebook following for one of my niches (horses). This website has been in hibernation for a while as I'd been focusing on my boot camp site (doing the SWAG challenge), however, some random opportunities presented themselves in the past week and they are too good to pass up.

After creating an online competition for a $30 Amazon Gift Voucher, two different suppliers (who I'd blogged about previously) have offered to sponsor future competition prizes.

The reason I wanted to share this with you, is that occasionally I've read about other WA members who have been approached by product suppliers in their niche with offers of free products in exchange for a sponsored blog post. Rather than simply using the products yourself, why not use them to create a viral giveaway to build your business?

That's right - put those freebies to work!!

In my case, I'm not really sure what happened first in the cycle above (and it probably doesn't matter in the scheme of things), but the cool thing is it's a great way to build your email readership and site trust. Competitions is not a new concept, however it's still exciting when you see it starting to work within your own business.

What is a viral giveaway?

Essentially, it's a type of competition, where every person who signs up for the giveaway can earn extra bonuses by referring others to the giveaway. This can drastically improve the reach of your competition and that means more eyeballs on what you have to offer!

I used KingSumo to create my viral giveaway/competition and have developed a short tutorial about it here -> https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/grow-your-email-lis... however, there's lots of different platforms you can use to run a giveaway, including (in some cases) your email list building software.

At the end of my tutorial, I've also included a snapshot of my results so far, which demonstrate you don't need to have an expensive prize or giveaway to achieve more sign ups. In fact, the smallest prize I'm offering is performing the best!

So, rather than enjoying those freebies yourself, why not put them to work for you to build your online business?

Thanks for reading, I'd love to hear your feedback and comments about using competitions to grow your subscriber and social following. Has it worked for you? What tips and tricks can you share from your experiences?

Cheers, Karen

Karen, this is very sensible to do. Thanks for the incentives and tips. Everything is worth trying.

Again, thanks!

Hi Louisa, I totally agree - and we are learning new techniques here all the time. Thanks for your feedback, Cheers, Karen

Cheers!

That is awesome Karen and you have been very wise to use your freebies to grow your email list. That will be more valuable in the long run.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Hi Karen - I hope so! Although one of the freebies coming up is a gorgeous sterling silver equestrian jewelery piece - which I'd LOVE to keep, so this strategy better work.. :)
Thanks for checking out my blog post.
Cheers, Karen

Thanks again Karen. I will pass this on also!!

Tried and True

Elaine

Thank you Elaine!! Cheers, Karen

I like this I have been thinking of running a contest to build my list. I have been trying to figure out a give away for the winner and wondering if I have enough traffic to even try at the moment. For me this may be something in the future.

Thanks for your comments here and for checking out this post. Be creative with your giveaway - the possibilities are endless! cheers, Karen

Considering my niche is hound dogs I have really considered doing best dog or cutest dog contests to drive business then have everyone vote on the best.

Great idea! People love their dogs (I know I do!!) we all think our little fur babies are the cutest ever!! I like the idea of your viewers voting and actively participating in the competition too, it's a great way to get your campaign out to a wide audience and also get reader engagement. Great stuff. Cheers, Karen

Great Karen, this is a keeper.
I think you may have hit on something.
More that a great title a eye grabbing photo will get people to take notice. The dog got my attention. :)

Hi Steven!! Thanks so much for your feedback - I'm glad you found this of interest. Yes, I'm a sucker for a cute dog photo - and PINK (did you notice that too?)
Email marketing is going to be an essential part of my niche site moving forward, so it's really cool to see it starting to slot in together. Cheers, Karen

Thanks again, Karen!

Thanks for checking this out Nick. Cheers, Karen

I'm still wondering how email listing is done. I haven't explored yet.

Hi Jimmy, I have done a recent post on my site comparing about 4 different email software packages - aweber, mailchimp, campaign monitor and mailerlite... comparing pricing and features etc. which might be useful for you when you get to that stage.
However, I see you've been a member of WA since 2013... what strategies have you had success with since you started?
Cheers, Karen

I joined WA in 2013 but after a month I stopped. Then I came back in November 2016 so my oldest site is just more than a year.

I work in the church and I could not have a full time here. The good thing is that I learn by discovery and I haven't had any success when it comes to money. I know I have just laid the foundation and I have to crack the key to the money funnel.

Adsense is not a lucrative affiliate program. I have Lazada, Amazon, and others but no commission yet.

Wow, you've had an interesting journey. Why did you stop after a month when you first joined WA? The platform must be quite different today than it was back then... Do you find it much easier to use - or is it like information overload now? All the best, Cheers, Karen

I just don't have the budget for monthly premium payments. During the time I was not here I did not venture on other platforms. I just stopped

Well... great to see you back here, and I hope your online journey is a success. Best wishes, Karen

Thank you for the blessing.

have a great day.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of this post!

Cheers,

Susan

Hi Susan, it's completed now... sorry for the delay - let me know what you think! Cheers, Karen
