As from today 25 September YouTube will be making changes which will affect the appearance of your website.

The first and most important change is what will now happen when you embed videos. From today you will not be able to disable related videos.

Prior to this change you could set the parameter value related videos to 0 which would mean that no related videos were shown.

After today even setting to 0 will have no effect it will show related videos. These related videos may have a detrimental effect on your website and may distract your potential customers and drive them away.

You can force you to to show related videos from your channel but even so the result on your webpage will be cluttered.

The second change is that the video information will always be shown. Which means the player will display the video title before the video begins playing and also when the playback ends.

There are several ways to avoid this you can use Vimeo or Amazon S3 to host your videos.

However if you are using YouTube to assist you with your SEO, then you will still want to use YouTube. Just make sure that all related videos from your channel.

Well that F'ing sucks! Now is this change going to only affect the embedded videos going forward from the 25th or will all videos already embedded, change too?

see my reply below we are gonna have to wait and see Robert. Totally agree with the sentiment by the way couldn't put it better myself

Yes. I will definitely check my cancer cure website in the next day or two, because every page and post has at least 1 embedded video.

Does it apply to videos already embedded?
Sounds like it doesn't but just checking

generally, these changes in algorithms are not retrospective whether the jury is out have a look in a couple of hours or days.

That is definitely an inconvenience for sure, but it just means if we are using videos from youtube to support our SEO to make sure your content is strong enough for the visitor to want to reengage after watching the video. Which means where you place your video is more important as well I would imagine.

great idea Lynn sadly it doesn't work in practice and other people get distracted and once gone they are gone. I totally agree with you as regards placement personally if I was using YouTube which I don't I would now place it at the bottom

Thank you. Great information for me heading forward. I’ll have a look at Vimeo. Every bit of information helps me move forward.

information is always power thank you for your comment

Bummer. I was just starting to use a few videos!
Do you know if Vimeo or Amazon S3 charges for their services?

Best wishes,
Karin :)

I host with Vimeo and I pay roundabout $280 a year I think. Amazon S3 is different because they charge for how many people download it

Thank you for the info!

Best wishes,
Karin :)

From Developers.Google:

Prior to the change, if the parameter's value is set to 0, then the player does not show related videos.
After the change, if the rel parameter is set to 0, the player will show related videos that are from the same channel as the video that was just played.

At least it will play related videos from your channel which is fine with me. YouTube is my #1 source of organic traffic.

I agree with you in what you're saying but it still will make your site look a lot messier than it did before I'm sure. Again it may not make any difference to you if it is your number one source of organic traffic

thanks for sharing. Great information.

Dang! Those related videos can cause people to get distracted and click away from your website.

it's one of the major reasons why I changed over to Vimeo pro about three years ago. I have full control over who sees the videos. I control whether they are downloadable et cetera. Particularly useful if you have training videos

That's annoying!

it will be a pain

Thank you for sharing the information

Mary
