It's Game on For Facebook from Tim Berners-Lee
Tim Berners-Lee was the guy who invented the Internet because he invented the protocol for hyperlinking. He was a tech guy who came from a tech family but it didn't work for a tech company but worked for Cern.
I've just come across this and it's interesting whether he will be able to take on people like Facebook who have taken control of the web remains to be seen but for the first time it is a viable option.

it remains to be seen whether we will be able to claw back control over our data, personally I think it's not too late. Tim Berners-Lee has always said that we haven't seen the web as it could be!
I'd be very interested toHere your comments and whether you believe that this will allow you to be in control of your data again?

With supposedly ANOTHER breach, I'm not sure how long FB will be around anyway. People are dropping like flies.
I would NOT put anything on FB that I wouldn't publish in a newpaper for the world to see.

that is totally the correct attitude. I use it for Facebook ads which is profitable but I'd never put anything on my homepage
totally agree with you Mike both of us are old enough to remember what life was like without it. I prefer my life with it
Hey Catherine,
With all that is going on with Facebook I have definitely stopped using it!!!

Ain't that the truth life was much simpler back then even though they didn't think so. Life was a lot simpler back in a day whenever it was.
We have come a long way since then. But which is better now or then.

Thanks for sharing!
This is a fascinating development and if it works the way he envisions will be a boon for our privacy without interfering with our ability to share information.
It will be fun to watch.

And now, Sir Tim Berners-Lee serves on the advisory board for MeWe social media. The place where privacy matters!
Okay thanks for sharing that I don't pay much attention to social media. I will check that out
Catherine.....I saw the article this morning also. Although I'm not "tech" enough to understand just exactly what he's got planned. But the bottom line, "individual control of personal information," seems wonderful. I just don't know how it will work......a second, parallel internet?
I notice you say he invented the internet......the author writes that he actually created the web......is it the same........?
I thought Al Gore invented the internet! (Not a serious remark.....just my attempt at some humor).
My son-in-law is a contractor for Intel in the Silicon Valley.....I sent the article to him for some clarification and learning.

I would be very interested waiting to hear what he says but yes that's what it's about us having control of our own data. theoretically, it should prevent companies like Facebook from manipulating elections and such by misusing our data. He created/invented the Internet because he was the person who created the ability to use a hyperlink. There is more than one protocol on the Internet but he was the guy that invented the thing that bring brought the rest altogether and the title it was later claimed by Al gore

exactly my thoughts and even better that the founder of the web is still so involved to try and keep it protected
