Hi guys,

I am trying to move my site from WA to Siteground.com hosting and have been told by their support team that they are unable to move the whole site across - see b

If your site is hosted at WA then it's not hosted at wordpress.com. You can transfer a WordPress (that's WordPress software) following these instructions
http://wealthyaffiliatetv.com/move

HI Marion,

Thanks for your help. I followed the instructions in the tutorial and am having difficulty backing up my site on Filezilla. Entered in the FTP username and password and it came up with the following error note -

Command: USER ftp_pWhdjzLW
Response: 331 Password required for ftp_pWhdjzLW
Command: PASS *********
Response: 530 Login incorrect.
Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server

Note - I have also backed up my site on a plugin called ManageWP and everything seems to be on there so is this adequate?

Thanks again,

Kathryn

I can't find ManageWP plugin at wordpress.org so I have no idea if it's working properly for you. I use WP Clone and Duplicator and I also use Tools > Export and FTP to make sure I've got everything covered.

With FileZilla did you choose 'Active' mode? That can be a stumbling block. Also this tutorial from Nathaniell could help

The only way I know how to "export" your website is by going to the dashboard of your website and find the tools section. Use the Export from there to export all of the content.

Then you should be able to provide that to your new host or Import it there.

Now idk if you can keep the theme since the theme is a "wordpress" theme. Not sure how that will work.

Good luck though!

Hi guys,

Have installed Easy Google Fonts on WP and activated it, but can't see where it has been installed in my post editor. Is there something else I need to know?

Thanks for your help guys. I went into Appearance, then Editor and changed it in there :)

I use a different plugin and this explains how it works

HEllo,

You should use them in your normal editor...
They will appear there after activation of the plugin (normally)

More support you can find at:

I guys,

I have noticed that the number of visitors to my site in the last week have reduced drastically and am not sure why! My bounce rate is also very high.

Hi Kathryn,

Just out of curiosity have you gone in to Google Analytics to see where your traffic is coming from? In GA go to Acquisition - All Traffic - Referrals and see if your spikes match your sessions.

If the "Referrals" traffic matches your session numbers I'm guessing you've been hit by referral spam which can really mess up your analytics.

Type in referral spam in the discussion bar search atop the WA Window and you'll find a bunch of discussions about it and a number of ways people have suggested to filter it from GA

Good Luck,
Gregory

What is your URL? We can take a look and see what might be causing the bounce rate. I will agree 96% is a pretty high bounce rate. Is that only in the last week? It is not uncommon to see fluctuations in your statistics. That is to be expected, but share with us, your URL and let's have a look....

Hi Guys,

My site health has been 'improving' for a while now and recently I have installed the site map plug-in and re-verified my site on Google webmaster tools. It rat

Please also note that site health is only an overall/generic measurement. As Ravel answered below, plugins does affect your site health parameter. However, it doesn't necessary made the site load speed much much lower.

You can take as many plugins as you want as long it is relevant to boost the user experience. Most of other senior members here use more than 8 plugins (some have 12 and I've heard other member use 50).

Check on site load speed testing website like pingomatic to see if your load speed decreased significantly.

The most important here is quality content and then come user interface experience next. I don't mind sacrificing a bit speed to boost my user experience.

If you add more plugins then it is slowing down your website. On the Site Manager, there is said, that keep your plugins less then 5, then it should get better.
I have currently 7 plugins in progress and have 70% with that.
But when I turn on my WPedit, then it goes back to 50% and red.
So meanwhile I am not creating posts, I turn off that plugin.

I hope it helped you a bit.

Hi Ravel, question for you since you seem to know what you're talking about....;)

Can you add plugins, say around 12 (just exaggerating) but not have them activated, and still keep the speed up?

In other words, do they have to be activated to slow your site down or can they slow down your website just be being in you dashboard without being activated?

Thanks a bunch.

As far as I understand then yes. These plugins that I have turned off, don´t slow down my site.

Hi Kat !

Well, this may sound like a lot of work, but......
I would switch to a magazine layout type of theme. Search the themes and use the keyword "magazine"

Also, I would create a top menu navigation with a list of products that point to each post. Use long-tail keywords for each of your posts. But although you may use the top menu navigation as Products, make that a header only, not an actual link. Use the Custom Link option in the Wordpress menu function and just put a "#" in for the link. That makes it a "dead" link or a header only. Then, the submenu under this would be your individual posts that use the long-tail keywords like "Unique Baby Bedding", "Baby Boy Nursery", etc.

Do the same as above with your Favorite. Build this out with more posts or sub-pages.

Move the Contact Us under the About Me

Keep the About Me page within the upper menu navigation.

Put your Privacy Page and Archive within a footer menu.

Eliminate recent posts from the sidebar.
This is covered by the excerpt on the homepage and thereby not needed.

Just leave the Search, Categories and then the image links on the right sidebar.

Just my humble opinion after building 200+ websites! :-)

I would put the category products on the main menu as well as on the sidebar. Otherwise, I think it's pretty good already.

Hi,

first I would clean up the sidebar a bit.
I would at least get rid of "archives" and "pages" in the sidebar, maybe you don't need the "recent posts" there either.
What I put in my sidebar are images that link to posts or pages on my site.
People like images.

Not sure if your theme has the option to create "magazine type posts" on your home page. Maybe you would have to find another theme for that.

To create a "posts page" all you have to do is create a new page and call it "blog", "posts", whatever you want.
You will need a page called "home" as well, but maybe you have that already. (I am not very familiar with your theme.)
Then go to "settings -> reading" and set your "home" page as your static front page and set the "posts/blog" page to your "posts page".

Hope that helped.
Let me know if anything I wrote is unclear.

Cheers
Moritz
