Wordpress Ratings Plugin: kk Star Ratings on SSL-Secured Website

In this post, I want to talk about WordPress kk Star Ratings Plugin and how to fix its non-SSL star images on your newly SSL-secured website.

As you all may know by now, ALL Premium WA members get a FREE, trusted SSL Certificate on their websites - meaning that our websites will be HIGHLY secured.

Nobody could explain it better than Carson, so if you somehow missed this huge news - then read his post: Free SSL for Everyone - Encrypting Your Sites Has Never Been Easier

Note: It seems that Google is going to make some changes in website ranking in 2017, so it is important to have an HTTPS (SSL) website, even if you are not involved with your clients' personal information (like credit cards), whatsoever!

Now, here is the thing...

When I switched my website to SSL mode following the tutorials here at Wealthy Affiliate, I realized that kk Star Ratings Plugin's star images are served with HTTP (insecure) link, which creates a padlock for the SSL connection as "mixed content" (thus, making the SSL website not fully secure).

This was discovered thanks to https://www.whynopadlock.com/ website which checked my now SSL website for non-SSL elements. (See image above).

As some of you may remember, last year I created a tutorial on kk Star Ratings Plugin, which a lot of you seemed to enjoy (almost 200 comments on them!)

This is the one I am talking about - WordPress: kk Star Ratings Plugin

When I saw that the plugin's star images are one of the fewest non-SSL elements, I had to find a way to provide a solution and create a new tutorial for all of you, who followed my footsteps last year and added the ratings plugin.

I tried 3 different approaches and I found the EASIEST way to fix the kk Stars Plugin non-SSL elements on SSL (HTTPS) website.

It's like SUPER EASY to fix. Piece of cake (you'll love it).

So, I am happy to announce a new training tutorial:

kk Star Ratings Plugin non-SSL Elements on SSL (HTTPS) Website

If you have this plugin, you MUST check out the tutorial. I feel especially responsible if you added the plugin thanks to my 2016 tutorial :)

One last thing...

I seriously can't stop pretty much jumping around about getting a free SSL website because I am a premium Wealthy Affiliate member !!!

I had a huge project planned to be launched in 2017 and having a SSL Certificate is absolutely a MUST.

I have been a member since September 2015 and I had my ups and downs but I never stopped believing that this is the best online training centre/online business community available out there.

And a year later, when suddenly my friend and I came up with a project idea, I accidentally found out that SSL Certificate is needed for our project website - and GUESS WHAT?

Kyle and Carson were developing it and now officially added this feature in January 2017 !! Special thanks to you guys, YOU ROCK!

Anyway, everything happens for a reason, my friends...

Alright, this blog post was written to let you know about kk Star Ratings Plugin non-SSL elements and got a bit drifted away with too much excitement :D

Once again, here is the link to the follow-up tutorial:

kk Star Ratings Plugin non-SSL Elements on SSL (HTTPS) Website

By the way.

For those who DON'T have the plugin yet

If you decided to install the kk Star Ratings AFTER you switched to HTTPS version, then I am 95% sure that you won't have to go through this process because the star images should be automatically in HTTPS (secured) mode.

I truly hope this post was useful to you!

Thank you for sharing!

My pleasure John!

Thank you for sharing though, this will help aid a quick fix if needed or someone can not edit their site.

Thank you!

This is helpful however it adds a plugin where a plugin is not needed.

If possible you need to fix your site using chrome or firefox.

I made a training video to help aid what Jay said last night. I understand if you choose to take the plugin route but honestly, I would fix my site or at least give it a try before adding a plugin.

This is just an opinion.

I hope it is helpful,

I think you misunderstood - I didn't add a plugin to fix the HTTPS errors.

I already had the plugin from long ago (so that the visitors can rate the post instead of commenting if they wish) - details here: So, I noticed that this plugin had non-SSL elements, so in my follow-up tutorial, I discussed how to get rid of that.

I have a feeling that either you misunderstood me or I misunderstood you.

In any case, I think I still need to fix other stuff on my site, so I will check the tutorial out.

Thanks Shane,
Zarina

Sorry about the misunderstanding with the post, I was at work and read it quickly.

In any rate, the video training I did will aid it editing and code for your links and such but sounds like you have good experience already so you may not need it.

If you do by chance need further help, I do code using html, pop, and css so I don't mind helping, just shoot me a PM.

Hope all is well.

Thanks,

Helpful information. Thanks for sharing!

My pleasure :)

Thanks for sharing, Zarina.

Glad to :)
