1 Big Reason Why Kyle Might Not Choose You (And Some Sort of Advice)

Hey WA fam,

Before we move on, please do NOT consider this a b*tchy post of any sort, simply accept this as advice for future reference.

This is something important that I've learned in my early online days as a freelancer and I feel some of WA members could benefit from my knowledge/experience.

Anyway, just for fun I've been checking comments posted on Kyle's post about Super Affiliate program, where he shared that he's going to choose a handful few and turn them into WA Super Affiliates.

He clearly mentioned what he expects from people who will form part of SA program.

Specifically he mentioned:

  1. - being hard working
  2. - dedicated
  3. - active (with WA bootcamp)
  4. - be proactive, resourceful, creative

Basically, he expects us to be responsible in every sense if we want to be a part of his SA team.

Or as @kdforsman pointed out, "I'm not sure that 'responsible' is the right word here. Perhaps it should be 'ability to take and implement instruction.'"

Anyway.

Then, he said to do the FOLLOWING (what to do if you want in):

He said, (and this sentence is in BOLD font):

"If you are in, say "Kyle, I am ready to do this!"

So, we already know that Kyle expects us to be responsible.

But, do you REALLY think he's going to choose you if you show right away that you are NOT responsible by NOT saying "Kyle, I am ready to do this!"?

Put yourself in Kyle's shoes.

This shows that if you are not responsible enough to do something as simple as that, then it's likely you won't be responsible in bigger, more important things.

OR it shows that you haven't read the post properly, which also creates a bad image.

This is something I learned through my freelance experience and I was lucky to have good teachers too.

I was taught that if you wanted to get a freelance project, you had to show that you are a worthy candidate - and one of the main indicators is if you followed everything that's been asked from you in the submission form.

Do you understand what I am trying to say?

(1) So, if you ever try to make a particular project/team, whatsoever, follow the guidelines CLOSELY. How exactly you comment, respond, submit etc, shows your true characteristics.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Remember that.

This doesn't mean that there is absolutely no way you will be allowed to be creative (some employers actually want that) BUT when you are just applying, do EVERYTHING that's been asked of you!

(2) Secondly, if YOU are the one looking for people, you pay attention to these details.

You wouldn't want to hire someone just to screw you up on the second day as your employee, (pardon my French).

Or work for your for a month and then disappear right before the deadline or something.

Sondra's experience (@SondraM) confirms I am right:

"It is so important to follow instructions. I used to do a lot of hiring. When the hiring group is sorting through a huge stack of resumes, we are looking for ways to reduce the applicant pool down to a managable number. Discarding those who don't follow instructions is the easiest part of the process."

Just remember this for future reference.

I just kept noticing a few comments (mostly from new members) that didn't really follow the guidelines, so I just thought in hopes that you won't make this mistake.

Hmm, maybe I should include this piece of advice in my blog tips for beginners tutorial? lol

To Success!

- Zarina

P.S. I might have made Kyle's life harder if everyone went back to change their responses lol... (Kyle, if you are reading this, I am sorry if I've caused extra workload for you!)

Great advice Zarina, I can't tell you how many times I've thought to myself, "Wow, did you even read the directions." I was actually considering writing a post similar to this one. I may still do it just because of some of the comments I've been seeing.

I didn't think it was a b*tchy post at all. It sounded like pretty good advice to me.

Don

Thank you for your support, Don! I was worried I would come off bad by sharing this post but it's more of a tough love situation here.

Hi Zarina,

This is a good "tough love" post that people need to read.

I'm a freelance English language teacher in Japan, and only today one of my students told me she'd made a mistake in her application form for an airline company, and... would it be okay if she used whitener to paint out the mistake and write over it?!?!

I told her if she was serious about the job application she'd start over. Anything that looks sloppy will be instantly rejected in a market where demand for jobs outstrips supply.

Same here at WA with Kyle's training. My guess is that far more people have applied than can be accepted. So if you want to be a "SUPER" affiliate try not to present yourself as a sloppy affiliate. :)

All the best,

David Hurley

Right on point David!!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and personal experience :)

It is so important to follow instructions. I used to do a lot of hiring. When the hiring group is sorting through a huge stack of resumes, we are looking for ways to reduce the applicant pool down to a managable number. Discarding those who don't follow instructions is the easiest part of the process.

Exactly! That's what I was trying to convey in the post. If you don't mind I will include your experience in the post :) Thank you, Sondra!

You are welcome.

:)

Good point Zarina. I am sure the selection of candidates will be done based on objective criteria and performance level so far.
There are a lot of resources in WA available for us, and some groups are providing excellent summaries. And this is also a resource.
I read Kyle's email, and I expressed my interest but I will be Ok if he finds better candidates. It is not about our will, I believe it is about getting the best possible people who later will be sharing their knowledge and experience with others.

Makes sense, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thanks for this Zarina, this is great advice and I have to say that I did do Number one, but I have to say that I never noticed number 2 unfortunately so did not answer this one lol. That will be me counted out then. I have already been working through Bootcamp and am nearly finished it. xxxx

Paying is important in most cases :) Good luck with the bootcamp!

I noticed the same. As much as Kyle cares for the members I don't think he has time to read 800 people's post and figure out who wants to do it or not either. So those who gave the short and simple answer that they were instructed to will stand a better chance.

Kyle knows best who he needs in his team!

It isn't that I think any less of Kyle Zarina (he has to be a marketer in the company) but this is a schlacky marketing job using the stampeding principle of the PUSH!

From the standpoint of ambassadors he made an announcement about the open education project of which we area a part dated July 7.2017. If you need to see it I'll send you a copy of the link.

He indicated Ambassadors would be on the track to go to Vegas this year. There was a lot of fanfare just before the push for Jaaxy that this might be a fruition of the announcement. But it was just Jaaxy.

I asked him about the Vegas thing and he told me It was a misstatement. But not to worry it can be redirected and reset on close to impossible terms. classic Bait and Switch!

Poor Grace (little mama) she was hooked right in.Rah Rah Rah can you give me an I'm in!

Well I'm sorry to see this put on everybody. I looked at this REDIRECTED proposal and thought who gets the short end of the deal?
No way any sane person is going to find the time to mortgage their life in this fashion!

Robert Boomer GP 08 just went out there on his own nickel for a tech trade show and got a lot of affiliate ideas. You can go for a song on hotel fares and air fares

So it's going to be interesting watching so many people PUSHED this year! Kyle, Jay, Nathaniel, Eddy and the other insiders are laughing themselves sick. Not only no but HECK NO am In for this. I prefer to make suggestions and help in my own way for the training and mentoring initiatives which I am doing in some of my posts lately!

I've copied this and put it in an exclusionary file as it may be take down by Kyle's police force. I just realized this isn't a PM but I'm so spun up about it I don't care!

I have had to subdue my true opinions on many matters; i think you can have a great blog on non-material matters, spirituality, yoga, mindfulness are examples. Sometimes if I do what I'm interested, the contagion helps naturally. Success follows a good idea and talented writing.

This could easily backfire on Kyle. If he's only taking a handful and with so many deserving, it could get ugly. The top 200 deserve it, for example

I will say though, it made me think harder about PUSHING the affiliate program. I have came up with what I believe to be a great "theme" to do it. With the strength of the good Lord and help from members like you, I'll be a super affiliate whether I'm chosen by Kyle or not.

Oh please. If you think it's all a sham why not cancel your membership then??

A great approach Craig and a constructive one

I take my slings a and arrows from people like you and it wont sop me speaking my mind!

You are quite right to speak your mind. I just don't agree with you :-)

Yes you can indeed, This membership isn't all about promoting WA. I have a gardening website that makes me a few dollars every month.

That was a really interesting response, Mike. Thanks for going to the trouble to express yourself.

You're most welcome Ivy!

As mentioned to you, the Ambassadorship is still undergoing changes until we can reach a point of introducing more incentives. That post you are referring to, was posted back in mid 2013 when we initially rolled it out with much bigger plans.

It has taken us 5 years to get the program to this state, while not perfect, it is getting close. You will see lots of changes and improvements in this respect and entire new platforms and redesigns on the way early this year which will move the need to a ranking that is much closer to the reality.

Thank you Kyle' I speak from the view of a vested interest in all the great initiatives underway here and am always ready to lend a hand in the formulation of them as well.
I noticed the 2013 label and thought it was a typo on 2018 due to the currency of the announcement!

Dear Zarina,

I was going to write this exact point in my daily blog post reminders of Kyle's Project: SUPER AFFILIATE .....but then I stopped myself for 2 emotional reasons:

1) I didn't want to step on anyone's dreams for a week (my altruistic self) in case they had not written it precisely as he requested

2) I didn't want to reveal to my competitiors over the remaing days the key to being chosen (in my humble opinion); Kyle expressly requests for members who can follow instruction - and he is very precise!

I wish now I had written the post but I am glad that you were brave and honest about this truth!

Barb of Easy-Moneys

Now, I think I might have made it harder for Kyle to choose people if everyone went back and changed their responses lol. Not sure if I had to post it now or wait until the selection is over.

I totally forgot that I could just save the post and publish it later (I like writing "in the moment"). I didn't even plan on writing this post.

Oh well, hopefully won't be mad at me xD

LOL - I'm sure Kyle won't be mad at you!

Now I can't stop the Bold function off of my MacBook Pro Formatting - it types Bold but does not show up as Bold when I press return!

I also tried a combined Command + Bold with Command + Italicized but I could not get it to work!

I am a complete computer newbie so, if anything, I am continuing to frustrate myself and learn!

I do hope you get chosen!

Barb

Woah, thank you for your support Barb!! I have a slight fear of "disappointing" but being accountable does make me more motivated.

I am sure Kyle will know who's fit best for the SA team spot.

As for Bold function - do you type in SiteContent/WA posts? Sometimes it's being glitchy but you can for example go to the next paragraph line to get it back to default by non-bold option.

Also, sometimes people accidentally turn off keyboard commands so you might want to google that if Cmd + B doesn't work.

:)

Wow... very good points here Zarina and I'm glad you wrote this. I responded with 'Kyle, I am ready to do this!' and clicked the Add button.

But it bothered me a couple of days later and I went back to re-read what Kyle said to do. There were 2 specific steps and I missed the 2nd where he wanted to know what kind of effort we would make, like how many hours a week.

So... I sent him another response back with 'Kyle, I am ready to do this!' AND my hours I know I could commit to working in a week.

Hopefully I'm good on the response... the only thing I didn't do was put 'Kyle, I am ready to do this!' in bold letters.

What do you think?

Bold font was for us to notice I think, besides you can't make a bold font in comments - so you should be fine :)

Ohhhh lol... I didn't know I can't make a bold font in comments. Good to know.

Ok thank you Zarina for responding so quickly.

No problem :) Good luck!

I definitely agree with you, I noticed the same thing. Although, this has nothing to do with you. I also wanted to mention that when applying for certain, opportunities like this, the person applying also has to be willing to accept the end results, whether they are picked or not. It is not the end of the world. Who knows Kyle did mention that if this works out, he may do it again. We should be happy for anyone that is accepted into this opportunity. Great Article and keep up the awesome work.

Exactly, thanks Kisha!
