Nick / Brok, thanks for replying back it was very helpful, particularly the thought process on why you should have some comments on all posts...thanks once again :)

Well with the way with the comment feature is working right now. I'm getting 5-10 comments when I request one, so for now, I'd request at least one comment for every post and just see how it goes.

*Disapprove any comment that is trash, people are trying to game the system so if a comment isn't good do not approve it. Better to have 1 good comment than 5 bad ones.

But to answer your question there's not an exact answer on this, but as Nick said, Google takes engagement into consideration as a ranking factor so atleast one comment on each post you publish is the method I'd use to start. If you see a post start to rank well, pour some more comments in to that particular post to help it keep climbing up the rankings.

Brok

I don't know if there is an exact number. Google values engagement, so my thought is that you want a smaller number on all posts as it would show continued engagement across your website.

If anyone else knows better though, please correct me!

Hi I was wondering if someone could help. I can't seem to get my comments showing under my posts. I've googled it and in WP ticked the comments box in the "sections" part of th

Can you send over your site URL.

Every theme is different and some themes have comment options that override the options shown in settings so that could be your issue.

But if you send over your site I'd be happy to check it out.

Thanks buddy :), link below...on the home page I can't get the comments shown, but it does show if you go to the individual pages. But I'd like it if I could get the comments shown on the home page.

Alright so since your homepage is just set as your blog roll, you won't see comments on it but there is a way around this.

You'll want to create a new page and have to add some short code to get a blog roll to show and enable comments on that page.

Then in settings, you'll have to set your homepage as the new page that you created.

That's really the only way to get around it.

To add code make sure you're in the text section on the page and paste this in:

[display-posts posts_per_page="5" image_size="thumbnail" include_excerpt="true"]

You can change how many posts you want to show by changing the 5. You can also turn off excerpts by putting in false

Hope that helps!

Brok

@BrokFTJFH thanks for helping me out on this. But before I do this I have a few questions for you.
1. Does it actually matter that the comments are not viewable on the homepage from a google and users perspective?

2. Also rather than do the changes you have suggested is there a wordpress theme I could use that already has this setup?

Thanks again for the help...much appreciated.

Kash.

Hey Kash,

Not having comments on your homepage will not hurt you at all. Honestly, most websites don't have a comments section on the homepage. Since most sites don't, I don't think there are really and themes that have this as a feature.

If the only reason you wanted comments was that you thought it would hurt you I wouldn't mess with it. As long as comments are showing on pages and posts you're good.

Brok

Hi, yes that's exactly what I was looking for. Ok so no need to change anything...thank you very much for your help. :)

No problem at all!
