I think I would have been very alarmed to see someone's horse sinking in the mud up to its flank. But then again, that is why I like riding "local" horses on trips away from my home. My horse wouldn't know how to handle deep mud.

Those horses know exactly how to handle that kind of terrain. They've gone that route many times. I remember when I saw the guide's horse sinking in the muck, that was alarming. I haven't seen anything like that before. When it was my turn..I let the horse pick the way as he knew exactly where to step and how to get through it.

I haven't been riding in years. I'd love to go. I'd also love to go to Ireland one day, as part of my family is Irish. I hadn't really considered combining the two.
