You can't cross the sea by staring at it

You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.~ Rabindranath Tagore

Continuing on with the idea of movement and progress and the apparent opposite—procrastination—I noticed this quote and just had to add my "two cents."

If we stand by and do nothing with our websites, we are not helping anyone. We are not crossing the sea—we are just standing and staring at the water.

Today I read one of the very few "negative" reviews of Wealthy Affiliate that I have ever read. I think I got about halfway through it before I quit reading it.

I quit reading it because the person who was writing this negative review obviously was one of those people who expected their website to "magically" write itself and for the money to just drop out of the sky and into their bank account!

I wanted to comment on their hogwash, but figured the best way to combat ignorance was through writing a post about Wealthy Affiliate that told the truth about the platform.

The poster was talking about how WA is just like all the other scams out there—just a way for the owners to get rich.

I don't think this person ever had a single interaction with the owners of WA or he would know the hours and time they put into this business—a business that allows people like you and me to create our own businesses, not by magic, but by hard work.

We are given excellent lessons on how to create websites that can earn us a good income. We are not promised an income. We are not promised anything, except that we will know how to build a website that can earn us serious income when we are done.

But like I wrote in my WA review for the Affiliate Bootcamp..."Wealthy Affiliate works if you work."

You can cross the sea of learning how to earn money online, but you can't do it by just standing and staring at it—it takes ACTION. It takes work. It takes trials and errors. It takes work and maybe even a little "magic" sometimes, but always work!

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. —a quote attributed to Thomas Edison

Karin

Well done Karin!
I am always surprised when I hear someone has anything other than high praise for WA. Then I remember that there are those who want a millionaire lifestyle with a minimum wage effort...life doesn’t work like that.
Love the Edison quote!
Have a wonderful day!

KyleAnn

Thanks, KyleAnn!
Hope you're having a great day! I'm home from work because we are in the middle of a blizzard right now. In fact, everyone is home, they called off school, work!

About an hour ago it was thundering, lightning and snowing all at the same time!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Wow! We’re past that stage of Spring here in KS. 😮
Stay inside and stay safe!

Hi Karin. You got me curious about what other people are saying about WA so I googled it. The first 3 out of 4 reviewers gave it a thumbs up and the 4th slammed it a bit, then immediately promoted his own site, so it's plain to see his motivation for giving it a negative review. I agree that someone looking for an easy ride will immediately trash this program. Of course there are tons of free resources on the Net but without a program, how would someone know what to do, and in what order. This program takes the guess work out of it and gives us peace of mind as we take on the task of absorbing all the necessary information. I think people miss too much by not getting a formal education.

Completely true! There is little guess work here at WA. We still have choices, of course, but we don't have to guess at what to do. It is laid out for us very clearly.

If I had not paid money for the premium membership, I may not have made it this far, either. But because I saw this as an "investment" in myself, I also saw it as a way to "force" myself to do the work!

So glad that we have found this amazing resource!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Yes, a bit of work is necessary. Writing articles is a creative process and I find that quite energising, so that is in and of itself uplifting. I used to have a weekly newspaper column. When the inspiration came the article appeared. That always felt good.

Oh, me, too, Alister! I love to write, especially about that which I am passionate about.

Funny that you should mention your former weekly newspaper column. I presently work at a weekly newspaper and I write a weekly column called "A Matter of Perspective." That is how my articles for it appear, too. Inspiration comes and "bam" so comes the article!

Enjoy the process at WA and hope you have a great day!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Thanks for sharing. I love the quote and use it often.

Mark

It's a good one, isn't it?

Hope you have a great day! We have a snow day today as we are predicted to get up to two feet of snow today! They called off school at all the area schools and my place of employment even closed for the day!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Where are you? I know it is snowing its butt off in the upper Mid-est usa.

Mark

Minnesnowta!

LOL

Viking fan for life. We are going to get that 5th Super Bowl second place trophy one of these days.

The only way to cross the ocean is in a boat no boat then jump in and swim, some folks get a little confused when it comes to creating a successful online presence.

I am always reminded of that saying " a poor workman always blames his or her tools ".

You got it right, Alex. Sometimes we forget that when a door closes, somewhere a window opens!

We have some of the very best tools in the industry at our fingertips here at WA. It is up to us if we choose to use them or not.

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Your artical inspira me, I was very distracted by some family issue, didnt really want to do anything... start thinking maybe this not gonna work. But I like the saying you can not cross the sea by staring it.

Thank you for sharing

I am glad my article inspired you. Life often gets in the way of what we "want" to do. But keep the faith and believe this will work. There will be times when we see no progress, but remind yourself that we here at WA are here to listen and support you in whatever ways we can!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Hi Karin, Great post, I guess everybody has a right to there opinion right or wrong.
Regards Shane.

Very true, Shane. There are probably things that I don't find very appealing about some programs/platforms, too. But usually, before I slam something, I try to think if I gave it my all first.

I am so glad I found WA to be the exact opposite of what the negative reviewer said.

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Some people will never be convinced.
There loss our gain.
Regards Shane.

Karin
I agree with your summary of WA.
Imagine a savings account with no deposits made?
Same idea.
Thomas Alva Edison said: "Success is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration."
He obviously knew work.
Rick

Hey Rick, Thanks for your thoughts. I love the quotes attributed to Edison. Didn't he also say something about not making 1000 failures, but finding 1000 ways that something didn't work? I'll have to look that up later today! :)

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Kyle has stated many times that you won't be able to help everyone. As far as seeing negative reviews it's better to just ignore them and get to work on what you need to do.

Yep! I totally agree! That's why I didn't give them the time of day by commenting on theirs, but wrote a truthful one!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁
