We all need a hero!

A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. ~ Christopher Reeve

The Late Christopher Reeve (the man who played Superman in movies during the late 1970s and 1980s) knew a thing or two about perseverance and enduring things in spite of overwhelming obstacles. You see, Reeve was thrown from a horse and was left a quadriplegic—could not move his arms or legs because his skull and spine were detached—on May 27, 1995. He died 9 years later (2004) having spent the remainder of his life in a wheelchair and using a ventilator to breathe.

Reeve didn't spend those 9 years sitting in that chair feeling sorry for himself, though. Don't get me wrong, he did initially consider suicide, but after speaking with his wife Dana (she later died in 2006 after being diagnosed with lung cancer), who told him that he was still himself, he never mentioned it again. He began spending the rest of his life investing in research on spinal injuries and stem cell research and directing films which made him the happiest.

So often, we complain about the smallest of things that happen to us in life. But when we think of things that happen to other people, we can't imagine how they do it. How do they survive?

They survive—and often thrive—because they have learned to be the hero of their own lives. They are only ordinary people who found "the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."

I am not going to equate building our websites to the things that Reeve endured, but I will say that we can use our experiences, the things we have endured and learned, to build a business that we are passionate about.

Reeve never thought he would be passionate about research for spinal injuries. Life had another plan.

I never thought I would be passionate about researching and dealing with type 2 diabetes, but life had other ideas.

I never thought I would be passionate about helping other people or promoting a platform like Wealthy Affiliate, but here I am doing those very things!

We all need a hero!

Don't forget, you are the hero of your own story. ~ Greg Boyle

You can be the hero that you need—that you have been looking for! Don't give up and don't discount your experiences—good and bad—they can be the things which your business is made of!

Best wishes,
Karin

Hello Karen, you hit another home run as usual. How many people after they get injured get depressed and blame everybody else for their injury.

When I was injured in a car accident I kept saying to myself why me. And for years after I felt sorry for myself, depressed, angry, mad, a really miserable person. I was the victim, I got rear-ended when I stopped at a crosswalk to let some people cross the road.

This happened in 1989, my life changed forever that day. It took a lot of years, still going to the chiropractor on a regular basis and I still have my bad days but life goes on.

You have to decide what kind of life do you want to have with the abilities that you have. You can be an angry man and live the rest of your life alone or you can get on living the choice is yours.

Thank you for your wisdom, all of us have hidden talents we just have to find them, thanks again have a great night.

When bad things happen to us it is so easy to want to blame others or feel sorry for ourselves. I know, because I do it, too. I used to do it a lot more, but then I realized that no matter how bad I think I have it, someone else has it worse than me. I try to be grateful for what I do have now, not for what I don't.

I've never been physically hurt like you. I can't imagine what that is like. You are probably much stronger than you feel. I bet there are people that admire you that you never gave up in spite of your circumstances!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

You nailed this! You really just made me think I am in the wrong line of work as far as my niche goes.

It's true, we all have a story and we all have things we have overcome and I never even considered making mine the focus of my business and using it to help others.

This will be my next venture. Thanks so much for sharing this and opening my eyes. You said all of this so well. Keep being a hero!

That was one of the nicest things to say. Thank you.
I am glad my post made you think of a way to use your experiences in life and the things you have overcome to help others.

There is so much good we can bring to the world if we just look beyond our problems and start seeing them as resources.

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

We are a hero to some... also...

Yes, we are!

Hi Karin.

You strongly disagree with Tina Turner then? Surely
"All we want is life beyond Thunderdome"? 😜

I jest, of course.

I am Hero, the One Who Once Rode A Bicycle. 😊

Regards,

I absolutely loved the Mad Max films! My favorite was the Road Warrior, but Beyond Thunderdome was pretty good, too! When I was growing up I either wanted to be married to Mel Gibson or BE Mel Gibson! LOL (I am jesting, too!)

Hey, I once rode a bicycle, too!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

.
"married to Mel Gibson or BE Mel Gibson"
Uh huh. Standard.

"I am jesting"
Yeah, sure. I believe you. 😉

"I once rode a bicycle, too"
Welcome, Hero, into our merry band. 👏👍

Fantastic, very true that, Passionate about what you believe in can go a long way.

Thank you and that is so true. Passion can take us to successes like we have never imagined!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Most welcome

Thanks so much for sharing!

Wish you great success!

Bob

You're welcome, Bob, and thank you. Ditto!

Best wishes,

I bet Reeve was able to reconcile his limitations with his abilities from the past that were never going to be experienced again. I’ve never been able to do that since my stroke and the my amputated leg. I can comment close to my past, but my limitations are nothing like his. At times my left “left foot or ankle” itch. I hope WA can help me achieve something I never was able to do while my body was still functioning.

Yes, I would guess you are right about Reeve. Once he was able to come to terms with things, he was better able to move forward.

I am sorry that you've had some bad times with the stroke and the amputated leg. I have heard of that before where the limb that is missing still "itches". That must be very strange and confusing at the same time.

I feel that if you give your website business your attention as much as you can, that you will achieve great things with it. You have experiences that you can use to reach out and help people that may be experiencing something similar.

Don't quit believing in yourself and your ability to be your own hero!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Thanks Karin. Thanks for the positive words

Beautiful post. It reminds me of what the great psychiatrist Gustav Jung have said. “You will have to find your own myth”.

Thank you. We do have to find our own myth, our own way. When we do, life is never the same for us!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁
