Our time is now
Our time will not come if we seek permission.
I read or heard that quote somewhere recently and while I wrote the quote down, I neglected to attribute an author to it. For that I apologize, but it was too good of a sentiment for me to not share it.
So often we seek for permission to do things. We want to do things "by the book." That is okay... If you are a librarian.
We are entrepreneurs. We are embarking on business ventures. We won't get much done if we seek permission.
Now, obviously, I am not saying we should "break" all the rules. But, I do believe some rules were meant to be broken.
Would we have airplanes or rocket ships or huge ocean liners or penicillin if the ones who invented them or worked on them sought permission? I am guessing not, or at least "not so much."
Entrepreneurs are not especially known for following the rules!
Following the rules may be important in games such as chess, but in business or creation, breaking the rules (without hurting others) is necessary and expected. We'd still be eating vanilla and maybe chocolate ice cream if Baskin Robbins hadn't come up with 31 flavors!
If we want to see success in our businesses, we need to be willing to take chances. We need to be willing to veer off the path.
Just remember this: “While you're sitting there wondering why you've kept all the rules and you still haven't achieved everything you've been promised, someone else has been breaking all the rules and seeing all the success that comes from doing so.”

Karin, this has always been my thoughts.
Rules are made to be broken lol
Especially if the reasons doesn't make any sense
I'm an avid risk taker and there is always a lesson for me
Either do better next time
OR
Fix it to get a better outcome :)
That's the only way we can grow and monitor our progress
Breaking the rules can be fun! It is sometimes hard to stand alone in the face of difficulties, but like you said, there is always a lesson to be learned: Do better or fix it!

Yes! That reaching for higher ground can be scary, but without taking a chance, we will never reach the pinnacle!

You are so right aobut this, Karin!
Some rules are guidelines more than anything else, and are open to creative interpretation!
Jeff
You are so right about that, Karin!
The day has started off well so far, and I hope that yours has too!

So far, so good. I am over working at the house of one of my business partners. Hopefully we will get some things figured out today!
Karin
It was! We got quite a few things cleaned up on the website as well as getting some other work done on the manual we are working on.

I’m with you, Karin!
I’m a notorious rule breaker, but not in a bad way.
Many of the greatest accomplishments were achieved by thinking outside the box and going around various rules. 😎
Frank
I like to think of there is no box!
From the Matrix
Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That’s impossible. Instead… only try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Spoon boy: There is no spoon.
Neo: There is no spoon?
Spoon boy: Then you’ll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

It sure is. I have been listening to The Five Second Rule and it helps with getting less distracted and less putting things off.

Great advice and I love the quote!
I guess it fits both life and business. Either way it is definitely motivational!!
Thank you for sharing it and its philosophy with us!
Stephen
You are welcome, Stephen.
I've been told that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission!

I love this, Karin!
For most of my life, it wasn't just asking permission, I was somehow taught (because it never just came out in words), that I had to *wait* for permission. Obviously, I never got it. It took me the last several years to accept that if I was going to do something, to not wait. You should never wait. I can't stress that enough.
I had to wait til I was "good enough". Well, to some people, I'm never "good enough", so I have to do it now. It's when I chose to stop waiting and do it anyway, scared or not, that I'm starting to feel movement.
Yes. You nailed it. We had to *wait* for permission. I grew up in the era of "children should be seen and not heard." Of course, we had to wait.
Good for you for moving forward!
Best wishes,
Karin 😎
