Mad dogs and other fates

I may have shared this story before, so if I did I apologize in advance. But even if I did share it previously, it is a good story and is a good repeat!

The tale (or tail?) of two dogs

There is a story they tell of two dogs.
Both, at separate times, walk into the same room.
One comes out wagging his tail, while the other comes out growling.
A woman watching this goes into the room to see what could possibly make one dog so happy and the other so mad.
To her surprise, she finds a room filled with mirrors.
The happy dog found a thousand happy dogs looking back at him, while the angry dog saw only angry dogs growling back at him.

What you see in the world around you is a reflection of who you are.

What I saw...

Honestly, I was seeing a whole bunch of angry dogs when I looked in the mirror. I was in a

hate relationship with my 9-5 job (I still am, but I'm working on it!).

Each day when I awoke, I got the feeling that I could not stand going to that place another day!

When I looked in the mirror I saw a tired-looking, crabby bi---, err, I mean dog.

I felt chained and trapped, devalued and belittled and that my opinion didn't matter at all! I've been at this job for 24 years. I have made $12 an hour for the last three years, I've had my hours cut and .... Well, the list goes on and on and on...

I was snapping at the people at workโ€”becoming more and more frustrated as the days passed. I wasn't bothering to work on my own blogs or doing anything to further my own businesses because, frankly, I was so exhausted from all the anger and frustration that I just didn't have the energy.

I knew I was at a pivotal point when I yelled at my precious granddaughter (that's her with me in my profile photo). I yelled at her over something that was so pointless that it wouldn't normally have even gotten a peep out of me!

I yelled and she became so scared she began to cry and then hid from me.

Like a dog with my tail between my legs, I went to her and did my best to comfort her and let her know that I was sorry... I felt so bad...

How had I allowed that job to turn me into a monster?! A thing of terror and fear... A thing that did not resemble the me that I used to be...

Blowing up at a co-worker yesterday at work, the monster reared its ugly head again...

Today, my boss called a meeting...

I was kind of hoping he would fire me. But that didn't happen.

I was kind of hoping he'd give me a raise, but that didn't happen either.

I did get the opportunity to share my frustrations. But because they have done so many things and not listened to my opinion so many times in the past, it really doesn't matter now either. I guess it was more of a "venting."

What am I going to do about it?

Well, since I didn't get fired, I still "get to" go to my 9 to 5โ€”which is more like an 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. job on a lot of days, but I get paid for 36 hours a week (budget cuts so I not only don't get a raise, I also get fewer hours!)

But this recent bout of "I hate my job" syndrome made me realize that I can be crabby and mope around and complain or I can use my energy to write my own blogs and create my empire!

So, be on the lookout for blog posts from me here and on my websites. I will be requesting comments using the Site Comments tool!

And maybe, just maybe, soon, I will see this when I look in the mirror:

Let this be a lesson to you if you are suffering from the "I hate my job" syndrome...don't let it get as far as I did. It is not worth it and you end up being your own worst enemy!

Hope you all have a great rest of the week and weekend!

Karin

Thanks for sharing that.

I am sorry that you are in a bad space but at least you have acknowledged it and as they say, if you can't change what is happening then you can change the way you react to it.

I have been listening to nice morning affirmations which help to put me in a nice mood for the day.
Great success to you so you can be in your happy space, sooner. :)

Karen

Thanks, Karen. I am definitely working one changing my attitude. I know that attitude really can make a difference in how we perceive things. I need to start listening to affirmations again in the morning. I wonder if Alexa has any?

Best wishes,
Karin ๐Ÿ˜

Interesting story indeed. I can relate to the bit about secretly hoping to be fired too... ๐Ÿคฌ

I was still hoping it was going to happen today. The boss was changing the locks on my office and I thought.... "Hmmmm... maybe I'll get fired yet!" But nope, he gave me a key! LOL

Best wishes,
Karin ๐Ÿ˜

How true, how true. We'll be glad to see more of you. Hope coming here more helps.

I believe it will, Fran! Thanks for your positive thoughts!

I don't know where you got those images, but some were pretty scary.
well I did it again. Looking at my e-mail this morning, I found a few things from wealthy affiliate and the thought crossed my mind--"haven't seen anything from Karin," I wonder------- then it was time to take one of my cats to the vet, and my day was on the run.
Guess I should think of you more often, so you can get those blogs written.
Any way, good to get your latest and keep on writing. Sometimes I think mirrors should be banned.

Barb,
I think of you often and then you give me a reply that lifts my spirits! I hope all is going great with you and your blog building!

Best wishes,
Karin ๐Ÿ˜

Hi Karin, if you get to look at that last face around the house you can't help but love that! If you don't have one, I highly recommend getting one :)

I would love to have a dog again, unfortunately we live in a small house in town and so we don't have room. We would like to get a small dog, but.... Besides, my "attack cat" would probably beat up the little one all the time!

Best wishes,
Karin ๐Ÿ˜

HI Karin. Love your story and the analogy. I know how you feel because I was in that position some years ago. In the end I got laid off. In time they did call me back but the lay off caused me to rethink my attitude and change it.
You don't have to be angry, you can use your job as a stepping stone, do your best, show kindness even when it doesn't seem deserving and build that online business you so want to build.
I do hope to hear more from you on your success in the future.
The future is up to you.
Blessings
Ray

The future is up to me and I am choosing to make it a great one through my work on my blogs! Thanks, Ray! I truly appreciate your comments!

Hi Karen, wow you really have been having a rough time. I'm sure it doesn't help when I say I've had the same experience but went looking for a new job. Sometimes that's not an option.

You are doing a really smart thing by accepting what is a changing your attitude to create a better outcome while you build your business.
Getting into a negative spiral can only hurt you more and you never know, maybe a smiling, helpful you at work might bring the rewards you want or at least make them miss you when you leave.

Take care and hang in there
You're a champion because you are here trying to create a better life.

Wishing you heaps of success
Have a lovely productive day
Smile. We care.

I have thought about looking for a different job, but there are a lot of things I enjoy about my job and would not want to give them up for another job. I really like most of the people I work with. I think I am just tired of selling myself cheaply when I am worth more. I don't mean that in a conceited way, just that I believe we are all worth more and I think that is why many of us are here.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words, Lily!

Best wishes,

love the dog analogy, think I will share that with my guys I work with (menโ€™s prison..๐Ÿ˜‡)
They all love the good wolf bad wolf, I know they will like the two tales dog.

Looking forward to hearing how your empire grows

๐Ÿ‘

PS love the visuals.....

Glad you liked it! Let me know what the guys you work with thought!

Glad you liked the visuals! They seemed fitting.

Best wishes,
Karin ๐Ÿ˜
