Leave a lasting legacy

What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us. What we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal. ~ Albert Pike

In a world where there are "no absolutes" it is a joy to know that what we do for others and the world can be a lasting tribute to the fact that we were here, that we existed.

I think most of us would like to feel like we are important and that what we do matters in the grand scheme of things. I can speak only for myself, but I know that I was made for more!

Leaving a lasting legacy is something that each of us can do, in my humble opinion. It may not be lasting for the entire world, but something for our personal world is just as important.

"But, how Karin?" you may be asking. "I don't do anything out of the ordinary or special."

Well, here are some ways we can do it...

1. Through your children, grandchildren and so on...

If we lead lives of moral integrity and we pass those values on to our children, our legacy could live on through our family members.

"But," you might say, "I don't have children."

Well, then read on...

2. You can leave a legacy through a scholarship fund...

If you have a heart for education, you could set up a scholarship with funds that are given out based on the income (interest) made from those funds. If the initial amount saved was large enough, you could help some students for years to come. The scholarship amount doesn't have to be huge, I have seen many given out that are as low as $50. That might be just the right amount someone needs for a book.

3. You could write a blog....

They say that once something is in cyberspace it is in there forever...

I don't know if that is an absolute, either, but I have done Google searches on my name and come up with articles I wrote 15-20 years ago that I thought were long gone! There is no other way to get to those articles except by "Googling" my name because the website or whatever they were once connected to is gone, but somehow, those articles still exist!

I find that fascinating... And a bit frightening, too!

Moral of the story

You can leave a lasting legacy. You can find your way of making a difference in the world in many creative ways. If you want to make a difference, you can. It might be just for your small part of the world—maybe even your own home—but do something that others will remember you for in a good way.

A hundred years from now, wouldn't it be nice to know that your great-grandchildren are still talking about the way you always made people laugh or think with your stories that you had written on your blog?

Or that children and adults have benefited from the scholarship money that you left that still helps out a student or two every year?

The possibilities are endless, if you take the time to truly think of what impact you can make on the world!

Have a great week!

Karin

Thank you, Joe!

Best wishes,

Great article. I hope to leave something in the field I worked in all of my life. That is why I started these two websites. I want to make it a better world for those working in healthcare.
You also spoke about children. Even if you do not have children of your own, I am sure that there is a child or children that have been touched by you.
This article really gets you to thinking and hopefully acting.
Thanks.

Great idea! It is so awesome that you are doing websites to make a difference in a field that you have worked in all your life. That is the gift of blogging, we can write what we know and share that with the world!

Great idea about the children, too! Most of us interact with children at some time or another. Let us make those interactions positive and life-enhancing!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Thanks.

Love your thoughts on a lasting legacy, Karin! My wife and I have geneolog records to pass on. Some money, and hopefully, a booming Affiliate business.

Take a look into your digital legacy. IT may suprise you.

Thanks for sharing! I never thought of genealogy records...what a great idea! I also love the booming Affiliate business! Priceless!

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Love this Karin!

Part of my “why” in why I started an online business is to leave a legacy.

Exactly as you said, being known as a person who always helped others is the legacy I want to leave.

I love the quote by Albert Pike.

Thank you for sharing your insights!
Cheers!
Jeff

You're welcome, Jeff. Glad you liked the post!

Best wishes,
