I could do this all day
If you follow your passion, you'll never work a day in your life. ~ Tony Bennett
The words may be slightly different, but the sentiment is the same, if you find something you love to do, you will never work a day in your life. These words have been quoted in different forms throughout the ages.
Why do you suppose that is?
In my opinion, it is because it is true. When something is true, it gets repeated and believed.
I believe it to be true. I mean, I could work on my blogs all day! I love doing that.
I like to think of this in terms of what Shakti Gawain said, "When you're following your energy and doing what you want all the time, the distinction between work and play dissolves."
That also is true. I mean, I call it "working on my blogs," but I'm not really working, because I love doing it.
You can't live on love, can you?
Amy Weber was quoted as saying, "My philosophy has always been, do what you love and the money will follow."
Hmmm, well, that seems to be true, too, doesn't it? If you are doing what you love, the money will come, maybe not as fast as we might like, but it does come eventually.
I have worked at a lot of jobs I didn't especially like to make money. I worked as a janitor for many years. I didn't detest this job, but I got very tired of cleaning up other people's messes.
I have mostly liked my job working at the newspaper for the past nearly 25 years, but I can't say I particularly love it.
"If you are not doing what you love, you are wasting your time," said Billy Joel.
I don't necessarily see my writing at the newspaper as a waste of time, but I sure do feel like my time could be better spent on my own business.
An obligation?
Barbara Sher said that, "Doing what you love isn't a privilege; it's an obligation."
If that is so, then we have to do what we love. We can't question it, we just have to do it. It is an obligation. When we are gifted with a talent it is important that we share it. Some people can play beautiful music. Some can write. Some can design buildings. Some can sing. I was really good a cleaning bathrooms.
An abundance?
"Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life," Wayne Dyer
We want abundance. We want to be fulfilled, be happy, enjoy life and not have to constantly work the "9 to 5" grind.
The Late Steve Jobs spoke about our lives and our employment when he said, "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it."
Satisfaction in life and in our jobs is vital. It is who we are, who we become, what we share and how we live.
Never Give Up
I'm going to leave you with this thought, "Just don't give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong." Ella Fitzgerald
Keep forging forward to find what it is you love. I could do this all day!
Have a wonderful week!
Karin

I always wanted to be a writer and now I are one...lol...yes, actually have been lucky in life because everything I've worked at since my late 20s has been something I loved. It is very important. It can keep us going through the toughest roadblocks. It can shore us up when we are down. Loving what we do is important.
LOL, Fran... now you are one! I is a college graduate, too! LOL
I think loving what we do is important, too, but I will go a step further and say that it may be vital to really feeling fulfilled.
It's great that you have always been able to work at things you love. That makes life better!

I like the obligation part, Karin. Some us don't realize that we're not only robbing ourselves, but others too if we're not doing what we love.
I was in the same boat, being a janitor in my early years - I didn't really hate it. The people around me treated me well and at the time, I was thankful for the job, and soon became content. But when I laid my head down at night and fell to sleep, my dreams were much bigger than that job.
We shouldn't give up until we're doing what we love to do. Thanks for the post!

Thanks, Isaiah.
I hadn't much thought about the obligation part until I read the quote I shared. That got me to thinking about it. When we are given a gift we are obligated to share it. I believe we are given these talents for a reason. Not to figuratively bury them, but to pull them out and make use of them. It is an obligation not only to ourselves and others, but to the one who bestows the gift, as well.
As I think back over the years that I worked as a janitor, I actually did kind of like the job. I always felt accomplished because I had a cleaned product when I was done. You could always tell that I had been there and done something.

Hi Karin,
A very inspiring post, thanks for sharing it. There really is nothing worse than working a job and hating it.
It doesn't matter how much you are getting paid, if you hate it, then you are poorer than a poorly paid worker that loves their job, its that simple.
I love 'working' on my website, and being active here at WA. I enjoy every minute of it, so I could never really see it as work, even though a lot of effort goes into it.
Regards
Ray
I totally agree with you, Ray! I could do this "work" all day long!

Karin,
Without love for what we do, it becomes drudgery and a painful chore that weakens our being and functioning.
We tend to realise that when it is too late, unfortunately.
It is good to know - and feel - that you have found love in what you do.
Your life will be better for it.
Be safe and well.
Cassi
Thank you, Cassi. At times I find my job feeling like a painful chore, but most of the time I tolerate it because I do enjoy writing. But doing my own writing about my own niche(s), now that is a love affair I am willing to have!

Karin,
I am certain that many of us identify with how you feel.
We will all get there, once we persist.
Think about the love of your niches and let that get you through the mundane work. ๐
All the best.
Cassi
Thank you for your thoughtful reply!
