Changing our philosophy

Changing our thinking about things is probably one of the most difficult tasks we will encounter. Our ingrained ways of thinking—even positive thinking—can hinder us if we are butting up against a wall and are unwilling to change.

It is our philosophical set of the sail that determines the course of our lives. To change our current direction, we have to change our philosophy, not our circumstances. ~Jim Rohn

I'm not sure if Rohn liked sailing or not, but he sure used the metaphor quite often. Personally, I've never sailed. I think I would really like to because I love the water, but I won't know unless I try.

For me to try something new requires me to "think outside the box" of my current thinking. It requires me to—in a sense—change my philosophy.

One thing I like to do when I am writing my posts for my diabetes website is to challenge the thinking of the medical profession. I feel that many people have been misled into believing that there is no hope for them so they might as well just keep taking the pills and shots and blood tests and the whole gamet of what is offered through medicine and forget about ever getting better.

I truly believe someone can get better from type 2 diabetes and my goal is to not only believe it, but to prove it to myself and to my doctors and medical team. I know I am not alone in my thinking.

Changing our philosophical set of the sails is vital to our success, too, I believe. We may be under some or many ideas or philosophies that need to be changed to help us reach the success we desire.

For me, overcoming the fear of repetition (not sure what the "technical" name for it is) has to be changed. I fear that what I write will have already been written better or said better by someone else. When I start to feel that way, I quit writing altogether because I figure it will just be a waste of my time and everyone else's, too.

Wealthy Affiliate has been a boone to me because it has given me the courage to face that problem and to write about it. Hopefully, when others read about my struggles, they will know they are not alone and will be encouraged as they work through their own things that need changing.

Until next time, be good to yourself and others! (This is how I used to always sign my blog on weight loss.)

Best wishes,
Karin :)

Thinking outside the box is necessary because people can read the same old thing anywhere.
Your niche is very important to many people and they will appreciate your personal stories. We all like to relate to others. It is comforting.
You are on the right track!
C & P

It starts with that mindset of continuing regardless of what fear might tell us...you are conquering your fear and sailing forward at full mast. You are appreciated from us at wa and you are appreciated by your readers. You give hope and solutions to a very important topic..personally i think as a nation we are over medicated thanks to the greed within the pharmaceutical world.
You are awesome my friend kedp thinking outside that box. ☺☺

Karin
Great post as usual. Wish I had your outlook- and whenever I am ready to throw in the towel (as the saying goes) I read your post and I get the courage to try and move ahead. Thank you.

Very well said. I can relate at times. What you write is definitely not a waste of your time or anyone else’s. You do have courage and the support of your WA family right here. Life is good. :)

Cheers,
Renee

That shift is a game changing breakthrough moment for you Karin.

What's more you are going to do this, looking forward to hearing about your successes.

Alex.

Thanks for sharing, Karin.

I think that is how you can help others very well...by letting them know that you have been through a struggle and they are not alone...then showing them ways to improve their health. Good for you...and, by the way,at one time I was told I had type 2 diabetes, but I do not have it now. So there you go!

Yes, again, it's our mindset. How we set our mind and how we think!
Thank you for sharing, Karin! :o)

Wow Karin, what a lovely post. I totally agree with you. It takes thinking differently to solve a problem and move forward. Most people don't want to lose the comfort of thinking the same old thoughts and there is some comfort in doing that. People like you and I have to think differently however, because we plan to be in a different place from where we are now.
