Hello people who are working hard on building an online income!

Sorry for the formatting below.... I tried using header tags for the section captions but it just won't work. Clicking it makes the entire article text use header. And cannot get it apply only to the text I have selected.

So I have simply bolded and capitalized them instead.

I just wanted to make a post here for where I am now about 3 weeks after joining as a Premium member.

Of course, I took a look at the training and went through some of it. Played around with the free websites just to get a feel for things (been a year or two since I have done any work on a website), tried out the Content Page creator thingamabob.

After playing around it was time to get on with it...

SEVEN DIFFERENT WEBSITES (8 DOMAINS)

On September 9th when I purchased 8 different domains.

In reality, they were for 7 different websites and the 8th domain was just to redirect because I wasn't sure which of two domains I should get.

They were basically the same domain name but in this case the noun described two completely different "things" so the domain with the extra word of clarity is my main for building and the shorter generic domains simply points to this one.

All of these wesbites are for topics based around my hobbies and interests to one degree or another.

The reason I chose 7 different websites is two-fold...

First, my goal is to make a small amount of money from each website.
Second, I know that some websites will "work" and others won't.

I hope out of this batch of 7 I end up with 2 or possibly even 3 that are worth focusing on.

I set out to get the basics of the 7 websites done. Themes, privacy pages, etc.

FOCUSING ON TWO WEBSITES AT A TIME

Of course, I am not actually focusing on building 7 different websites at this time. That would be far too much to take on.

I started out working on 3 websites and then dropped that back to two websites that I work on alternately. Writing and publishing an article on one website and then writing and publishing an article on the other website.

All of the websites were indexed by Google in about 1 week or less but I don't care much about that. I kind of care but kind of not and will explain why below.

Focusing on two websites at a time is plenty for me to do while also providing a nice break to prevent burnout.

LESSONS LEARNED #1: I WILL WRITE MY OWN ARTICLES

As I mentioned in my last blog post, I tested two article writing services. I was hoping this would help to reduce my workload a good amount.

In practice, this didn't work out. I am sure there are many people who are much better than I am at writing good interesting articles. I just didn't find those people for the articles I hired out.

As a result, I ended up writing the articles over basically from scratch so in this way the entire experiment made things less productive instead of helping me along.

Still I learned some things... I think I can hire article writers to work more as Information Researchers... since many (most?) seem to do that anyway. Having them locate a bunch of quality online resources for me.

Maybe have them write an article on the top 12 blogs for so-and-so niche that have some unique feature I am looking for. Of course, the article wouldn't be for anything I would publish on one of my websites. I would just be paying someone to spend the time to research it and write an article on it purely for my use.

I could also hire someone on Fiverr and other micro job sites to do the same kind of thing.

I am definitely not done exploring outsourcing. I know there are many ways I can hire people to do work to help me out. And I am very interested in doing so!

LESSONS LEARNED #2: I WILL NOT WORRY ABOUT LONGFORM CONTENT

I completely agree that an informative & interesting article is what we all want to find on websites when looking for information.

I also believe that we all much prefer reading quality content.

What I don't agree with is that longform = quality content. Or that longer articles are inheritly better simply because they have more words.

I also know that I personally like to read articles that focus on the topic at hand and are more "bite size". Smaller tightly focused content. They can link to other articles providing greater overall coverage that I can read if I want to.

And I am pretty sure I am not the only person online who has this view.

The other reason I will not force myself to write long articles just for the sake of writing long articles... is because for me personally it turns the process into a chore. Something that is not enjoyable at all. And that is the perfect way to cause a person to just say "to heck with this".

So... what I am doing is focusing on writing informative & interesting articles. And to me that is quality content. Regardless of how long the articles are.

I will write until I am done writing. If the article is 500 words then so be it. If an article is 1250 words then so be it.

OVERALL STRATEGY

My strategy is to build out these two websites to 20 pages each.

When I do that I will move on to working on 2 more websites and repeat the process on them.

I will do this until I have 20 pages of content on all 7 of the websites.

Then I will go back and focus on doing some marketing activities for each of these 7 websites.

After 3 months pass I will take a good look at the websites and assess how they are doing.

The sites that are performing the worst (or that I find to be of the least interest to me) I will sell off.

I see this as something I will do as a long-term thing. It will just be part of my business process. Continually starting & building new websites. Testing them. And if I just don't have the interest in working on them for the long-term or if they are performing much worse than the others in the batch I will sell them.

I could very well lose out on a great site this way. A site could take off some months later. If it does then so much the better for the person who bought it and I will be happy for them. If I had really enjoyed working on the site I would have kept it. lol :)

It's because of my backup plan being to sell off some websites that I have interest in the search engine rankings. Because I know that will make them much more desireable to other people.

Anyway... let's wrap this up!

The remaining websites I will focus on taking to the next level... increasing traffic... and then building opt-in lists for each.

Basically, this lets me test many different things and focus my energy & time on only the best of the best performing sites and the sites that I enjoy working on the most.

Alright I just wanted to get this down. And maybe some of this will be helpful to others as well.

Interesting plan, I hope it works. However, working on multiple websites will definitely dilute your efforts. Your goal for articles should be 2-3 each website per week. I started out working on too many websites and it was not good for me - diluting my efforts too much. I've dropped down to working on 2-3 sites. My goal is to reach 100 posts on each site as soon as I can. I really want to have hundreds of posts on each site. I am using PLR content to help me start new articles and then I modify it to make it my own. I'm also exploring using ads to promote some of the sites. I've signed up for Facebook ad classes on Udemy to go through. I've also been exploring using sales funnels via Clickfunnel and also using GetResponse, my autoresponder. I also tried Fiverr to hire content done but I'm finding I like the PLR content just as much, as I still had to rewrite the outsourced content to Fiverr.

I don't know that I would say a person's goal *should* be to do this or that because they are a different person with different lives, responsibilities, goals, time available and so forth.

BUT saying that... that is basically my goal at least 3 articles for each of the two websites per week. I have 5 articles on one of them, 4 articles on the other (and 1 more article on that third site that I no longer work on).

There is a lot to learn for sure! I am fortunate because I did this stuff before. Studied IM for many years building content websites, doing ppc, adsense sites, the whole landing page to email list capture, mailouts sales funnel, etc. I spent 7 years on that stuff.

There are definitely new things to learn. Like the Pinterest thing. Never used it in my life. Same for Instagram and much of the other "social stuff". I don't even know what the purpose of all of that stuff is. I will almost certainly just choose only one or two things and focus on those.

Right now I am just focusing on the bare bones fundamental stuff. Mainly I just need to get my websites filled out at this point so will be focusing on that big time from now on.
