Hi,

Perhaps I should have saved this story until Halloween but I've just seen it and I'll probably have forgotten about it by Halloween so you're going to get it now.

Also, it ties up quite nicely with what a few people are saying about things taking time and having patience.

This is a story on the BBC website. If you want to read it for yourself I suggest you Google pumpkin farmer started out with one packet of seeds which is basically the title. The pictures are brilliant - my picture is just one from Pixabay.

in Yorkshire, in the UK, there is a farmer who at the moment is getting ready to harvest more than 30000 pumpkins. It appears it all started with a single packet of seeds which the farmer sowed for his own children one Halloween.

He bought a packet of seeds from the supermarket and from there he grew 10 pumpkins. As he only wanted two, he put the other eight on a stand with an honesty box outside on a Saturday morning and by that afternoon then all gone.

The next year he planted about 200 plants and then the year after that he planted about 500 plants and after that he just kept roughly doubling until he got to the point this year where he planted 15000 plants! He gets about twice as many pumpkins as he has plants so this year is expecting to get about 30000 pumpkins.

Obviously the farmer didn't go from a packet of seeds to to 30,000 pumpkins overnight. He started small and then when he found something that worked he just kept doubling and doubling. Now people are coming from all over the UK to buy his pumpkins!

I suspect we all know the chessboard story.

Sounds like a good model for us all.

All the best

Julia

That is one heck of a lot of pumpkins to occasionally turn about in the field and inspect how they are growing. Wow!

Starting business on a packet of seed and a bunch of hard work, not missing plowing and planting deadlines, praying for rain in the proper amounts and times, proper washing of the seed, since the goopy goop surrounding the seeds needs to be removed and washed off repeatedly as it prevents germination, dried and kept at the right humidity to be alive later.
There's a lot going into planning for an abundant future! And that is just pumpkin seeds, but so iconic for fall table and yard decorations! Oh and pie!

In Hawaii, Big Island, I used to grow the dark green delicious Japanese pumpkins and the Philipino squash like bigger than zucchini submarines coming up in the garden, as well as bitter melon, good for diabetics and for flavoring meat. Fishermen wanted the pumpkin for chum for a particular fish that likes it.

Some folk came also for squash blossoms for soup as the veggie part of a fish soup.
Avocados, fish by the 40 or 20 all nicely dried, half a sheep, etc. whatever would come back.
What a nice way to bless with our excess, and be remembered with someone else's best excess1 Help yourself as you have the need, there is always more coming!

Julia, that is an amazing story
It is the same with our website
It only take one seed for us to be successful

We need to nourish and look after our seed diligently and consistently to reap the benefits of our hard work
