Friday's Financial Declutter
I've decided to dedicate January to decluttering my home and have started with the dreaded wardrobe...won't be a quick job but has to be done!
A few years ago I read and embraced the Marie Kondo art of tidying and decluttering, I feel another burst of this is long over due.
It's not for everyone I know and I failed in my last mission with the very last section - paperwork, photos and momentos.
Apparently this is the hardest one to tackle. But I will try it again and see how far I get.
Decluttering can be applied to all aspects of life, and given the recent festive season my finances have been hit hard which means it will either be a frugal January or I need to declutter my finances.
If you are anything like me my purse (because I'm a lady ;-)) is the hub of spending in my life and so keeping it organised helps me to have close by the cards I need and where possible allows me to save money. It also houses a small Citrine crystal which is known as the merchant's stone of wealth, I live in hope!
If you think this is something that might work for you, I have compiled a list of of things you can do to organise your wallet/purse etc - this exercise wil take you less than 10 mins.
- Remove everything, all the paper, coins, bits n'bobs stuck in there .
- Check your cards and discard anything that is expired, same for money saving or discount vouchers. Throw them all away.
- Do you have gift cards? Do you know their balance? Most are easy enough to find online, look them up and write in permanent marker on the back - you might just get a nice surprise.
- Have you got loads of receipts? especially after the season just gone, have a look through and indentify what you need to keep, expense receipts should be filed or reimbursed, what can you discard?
- Need to return an item to a shop or vendor? Put the receipt with the item (in a pocket) or taped to it so it won't get lost.
- If you're like me - double check again the lottery ticket and discard if not a winner! I sometimes think I subconsciously expect a dud to convert to a winner the longer I leave it in my purse ;-)
- Put your wallet back together and remove (if any) credit cards that tempt you to spend money, leave them in a safe place at home (for emergencies) or better still cancel them.
This simple exercise can be done on a weekly basis to keep the clutter out and your purse in good shape...ready to receive!
Happy Friday...that's all folks!

I've read that book and even recommended it to family. I found that I've become more aware of how things in my home and out make me feel. Having a positive environment is so important!
I agree Kristie it somehow filters into all things in your life.
I will always remember reading about how as a race we often pass our unwanted stuff onto someone else because we feel we cannot discard it ourselves 😉
My mother used to say to me "one person's trash is another persons treasure" - but I have to agree that it is easier to give stuff to someone else rather than throw it out myself 😄
