The Importance of Perseverance

I had a couple days off my online business due to simply feeling run down and lazy. I was feeling really down yesterday for this. I felt like I had let my self down.

Today I reminded myself of the single most important factor for success in anything life. Perseverance.

I accepted the fact I had lost some time I could have used to work on my business. But I also reminded myself that on the long term it doesn't matter.

All that matters is that I get back to work as soon as possible.

If anything, it gave my battery a little recharge and I'm able to work a bit harder for the coming week.

I thought I'd share my insights what perseverance means to me and why I think it's the "secret sauce" for long term success. Both in online business and in life.

What Is Perseverance?

Perseverance is the ability to fall off the saddle, get back up and keep on riding like nothing happened.

The other option is to stay laying on the ground feeling sorry for yourself. And it's often very tempting to do this, this just a part of being human.

Perseverance is the ability to not give up on the goal you have set for yourself. No matter what.

You often realize after working very hard on a piece of content or a project that the competition is a lot tougher than you thought. This is another point where it's very easy to give up.

Perseverance is the ability to find the solution when the odds are against you.

I like the story about Thomas Edison who made thousands of attempts before figuring out how to make a light bulb work.

It was perseverance that allowed him to succeed after seemingly endless amount of failure.

Perseverance is what keeps you going far beyond the point you thought you would certainly give up. This is where success lives.

The "Secret Sauce" to Success

1. Taking action

It's clear that the people who succeed in online business are action takers. They apply the things they learn.

It's very important to learn to take action, even if you are a bit uncertain what you are doing. You will do a lot of mistakes in the start but taking action is the only way to move forward.

Simply learning without applying will not produce results.

2. Consistency

The second part is consistency. It doesn't matter if you take action once. You need to take action consistently.

It takes time for your actions to produce results and like I said before, you will also make mistakes. Not every single action will produce results.

To see results you have to do the right things for long enough.

3. Perseverence

But I think perseverance is the secret sauce for long term success. It's the ability to keep on going even if you have taken action consistently and are not seeing any results.

Many successful people here have shared that they failed with their first site. Some have failed for years, like me, before seeing results.

Perseverance is the thing that keeps you going despite these failures. It keeps you from going into despair. Failure is also never just a failure, it's a lesson, if you learn from it.

Look, here's the thing. No matter how dedicated, persistent and hard-working you are, life is going to throw things in your way.

You can get health issues, technical problems, family responsibilities. Anything really.

Sometimes you can simply get lazy, this is another part of being a human.

The only thing that matters is that you get over the hurdles, accept that you lost some time and get right back on track!

Building an online business is a long process and it will have it's ups and down, even if you do everything perfectly.

So don't beat yourself up too much if you miss a few days. Instead, get focused and start working.

You might actually lose an additional day or two or even give up totally if you allow yourself to think your business has failed because of an intermittent break.

That's actually one of the great things about online business, if you build it correctly, it can easily sustain even months without any work put in.

I don't know of a regular business or a job that can handle that.

But here's the big deal. You have to respect the heck out of your breaks. You can't expect your business to flourish in the long term if you are taking breaks all the time.

You have to make up for it by taking action consistently and persistently.

So tell me, have you fallen off the saddle and got back up again?

Jukka--I always use the Thomas Edison analogy. When asked what it felt like to have failed 2,000 times to create a light bulb, it is said that Edison casually replied that he had NOT failed--he succeeded at finding 2,000 ways how to NOT make a light bulb! Perseverance and positivity are keys to our ultimate success!

I think it truly sums up perseverance. I think it's one of the great gifts we have as a species. At least when combined with positivity, as you said. Have a great Sunday Jeff!

You too, Jukka!
