Does anyone know how to stop Windows 10 from restarting your PC without giving you the option to save work before it does? It's driving me mad lol! Keeps on telling me 'your PC

After a lot of procrastination, research, heartache and risk of wasting so much accumulated Microsoft Knowledge starting from MS DOS, I jumped ship from Windows three years ago. Lost a little bit of the "technical stuff" that can be done with Windows BUT system stability and usability have meant' 2X minimum increase in productivity.

Just my thinking. Cheers, William.

You can control the hours your PC restarts so it does so outside your regular usage "Active Hours". Go to Setting > Update & Security > then Windows Update. Choose "Change Active Hours” (choices are to lower right). Here you can set those hours (between 1-12 hours) that you DON'T want Windows 10 to automatically restart.

Below that is a "Restart Option". You can turn this on. (ON W10 anniversary this is reported to being pulled as an option). This lets you schedule a restart. It will temporarily override active hours, scheduling your "custom time" to complete install of update(s). Be plugged in at the scheduled time!

At Advanced Options you can choose not to look for and run Microsoft product updates. My laptop hangs at searching to install my printer updates, and I think this may end that problem.

We do still have options at the Control Panel to stop it from automatically updating your device drivers. This is at System > Advanced Setting s > Hardware. A bit more to the settings there.

Tips: With options at shutdown always choose "Update and Restart" to avoid a long wait on your next start-up, like when you actually think you might get something done.

There are also options if you use a metered internet connection. and a metered Wi-fi too. It appears then W10 will run then when you are on an un-metered connection.

Educational and Professional versions of W10 have additional settings available.

Thanks so much, I appreciate that detailed info.

I "upgraded" from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and got sucked in to believing that 10 was better. Of course they waited until after the option to switch back had expired before they started doing the automatic updates with restarts.

My response is going to be a bit long so I'll write a post for you. I'll come back and give you the link.

Here's the link Jude

That's fab Marion, thank you so much.

Feel your pain Jude, windows 10 is good but it is a love hate relationship, wouldn't let me into Google last week half a day later there are some good forums which seem to have some good answers just Google the question helped me out of a bind or even b try you tube.

I upgraded to Windows 10. It deleted months of data (emails, Word docs etc). Complete and utter nightmare. Corrupted data on external back up drive. So, re-installed Windows 7 and I'm sticking with it. It's stable. Have read lots of comments on the internet about this problem, so I wasn't alone. Will give Windows 10 a miss. Will wait for the next upgrade. All I can suggest is to re-install your old and 'reliable' version. Good luck!

I have no option to unfortunately, this laptop came with Windows 10 pre-installed.

Hi Jude,
Wow!! I was thinking about buying a new computer in the next couple of months, but this has changed my mind. I'm going to check out a Mac!! I don't need those problems. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with it. I hope you get the problem resolved soon. Take care.
Mary

Thanks Mary.

Hi Jude, sorry for your frustrating Windows 10 troubles. I bought my computer as Windows 8 was coming in; I wanted to get the last of the Windows 7 computers before they went away. I have a friend who is a computer expert (has a programming degree now) and she hated Windows 8. Windows 10 sounds even worse. Another friend of mine had a terrible experience where Windows 10 installed automatically on his laptop and he couldn't stop it! He had to be on the phone for over an hour with someone in another hemisphere in order to solve the problem. During the "free upgrade" period I got pop-up ads every day begging me to upgrade; I quickly canceled them so I wouldn't have an experience like my friend had. Good luck!

Amanda

Yeeeup. W10 decided to get on my nerves last week actually and stop my other programs from working. Never mind the fact that I had to reinstall drivers for my wireless pen tablet; which, by the way, is still being glitchy. Needless to say, it pushed me pack a few days. THAT, and yeah, my PC restarted with the same warning. Did you get an error "frownie-face with a blue screen of death"? 'Cause that's what I got. lol

Try a search on how to turn on off automatic restart? This article from tuneComp might help you out:

http://tunecomp.net/disable-automatic-reboot-after-updates-installation-in-windows-10/

Side note - I agree with an earlier comment: Windows 7 was WAY better in terms of just updates, compatibility issues and random errors. I know PC is PC, but Windows is a tad more ridiculous than usual in 10.0 lol

Yes, the blue screen of death is something I have become all too familiar with.

The constant and long updates with windows 10 made me finally make the switch to a mac a few months ago. ive been very happy since i switched, i can immediately jump on and get quick bouts of work done, which could never happen with the tedious updating of windows 10. (note, i wanted to ultimately switch to a mac but i just jumped in a bit earlier than planned due to the inability to use my pc.)

I may have to consider that to be honest, it's driving me mad!

No, sorry Jude, I will not touch a PC ever again, I only use my Apple iMac and iPad amongst other Apple products, as I'd had enough of PCs and the Windows system years ago, plus viruses and so on..
Yeah they drive me mad to be honest..lol
Cheers and good luck, Tosh :)

Cheers Tosh, may have to consider upgrading when I can afford it.

Hi, Jude,
Hope all is on the up.
It would be the best thing you could ever do.
You will never go back to a PC once you get used to the simplicity and reliability of a Mac.
Cheers, Tosh :)

I created some training for the first time yesterday and have just looked in my 'Training that I created' section in my profile. I am a little confused... There's a box in ther

Hey Jude. I want to read your training. If you can't put it here can you pm me with it?

Hi Jeannie, here it is and thank you :)

HEY GO YOU :-)) I WILL HAVE A LOOK AT IT OVER THE WEEKEND :-)) XOXO TO YOU ALL AND I HOPE YOU ARE FEELING A BIT BETTER HONEY XOOXOX

THANKS SO MUCH, TAKE CARE XOXO

:-) XOXOOX YOU TOO HONEY

It took about a week for the credits to show for the one training I did jude.

I see, thanks Mike :)

Wow!!! We got a 10 credit raise. Yes, you have to wait for approval.

Hey, girl, you wanted me to reach out Thursday...wait a minute, I've got mail. Is that you?

Sorry Chris, no it wasn't me! I promise to have a proper look first thing in the morning :)

Smiles and hugs buddy.

I just checked my training credits and I have 0. I guess i should have spent the time doing training to get those credits. Fortunately I spent the time building my affiliate marketing, and when I checked the money(not credits) I made today...I am able to stay at home and work full time. I guess some people are independently wealthy or just have a spouse who pays the bills and can spend they're days doing training for $1 credits.
I pay a premium membership here...I don't expect to do the training "myself' and get some credit for it. I expect Kyle and Carson to do the training, that's how most programs work.
It reminds me of the supermarkets today...go in and put your items in your cart...go to a self check out and scan your own items...bag your own items...pay the bill yourself..and then carry your items out the door. My wife laughs because I refuse to use self check out, I always tell her...I didn't bring my work apron..and they didn't give me a time card.

I'm neither independently wealthy nor do I have a spouse who pays the bills so I 'can spend my days doing training for $1 credits'. I'm a full-time freelance writer who believes in sharing knowledge.

For one thing I didn't even know that you got credited for training, and for another I would have done it anyway. This is a 'pay it forward' community where it's good to help out those who are struggling - that was my intention.

Jude, I wasn't trying to be mean. I do freelance writing in addition to affiliate marketing. I also believe in pay it forward and do show people how to make money online, inside and outside of here. My point is that Kyle and Carson are responsible to provide the training themselves, not through the members, that's why we pay for the service.

Thanks for the exaplanation

Oops! Just found them! Maybe they haven't appeared yet but I found mine when I clicked on credits on my profile page as Marion suggested.

Will go and have another look Alanna :)

No, they're still not showing - maybe it's a little too soon :)

I'm glad you asked this question, Jude. I received notification on August 18th that I received credits too but I can't find them either! Waiting to see how this shakes out. Alanna

Level 3 is the level your training is going through right now. It's already passed levels 1 and 2 and now it's progressing through level 3. The credits won't show up in your credit dashboard until they have been approved. You can choose to cash out the credits once they've been approved and you'll get paid on the first day of the following month. Or you can use the credits for other WA stuff.

Level 1 is worth 10 credits, level 2 is worth 20 credits and level 3 is worth 30 credits. 2 credits = $1.

Aah, I see Marion, thank you. So when they come through, will they be with the other credits?

That was really helpful. I created my training last week and am at level 2...it was pretty hard to search down information on how training credit system works. Thanks for the information Jude and Marion! - Joy

I have no clue how that works Jude. I guess we might find out now.

Hello I don't know. Not been here long enough sorry. Cj

Jude, I can't believe I am answering a question for you!!!
But as far as I know, if you click on "credits" on your profile page, you will find them. I'm guessing that as you have just created your training, there will be 10 of them, you can see those when you click on the "training" button at the top of your profile page.
I do hope this is what you nee, take care :)

No, they are not there Chrissie. It says 30 credits have been awarded but I can't find them lol. Maybe it takes some time to update? Thanks anyway :)

For the first time I have received a comment that gives nothing at all, in fact it would appear they haven't even read the post. How do I disapprove it?

Hi Jude - if you don't want the comment just delete it.
It showed "approve" instead of "unapprove" because the comment's in limbo.
If you approve it, the unapprove will then show.

Ah,I see. So I have to approve before I can unapprove?

Hi Jude, in my opinion, you don't have to approve the comment. Just delete it. Don't approve just to unapprove. LOL

WA blog comments you are only given an option to report as spam......either ignore or give a 'clarification' response. In the past, if I received comments that were 'too' bad, it would appear they are removed ... somehow by admin. As far as a comment on your website, comments should be set to be held for approval...this is when you have the best control.

It's on my site which is set for approval, but my point is that there is no disapprove button?

Oops, sorry....I misunderstood. Now that is indeed interesting....I'm going to research this one.....

You can just not approve them.

But there has to be a way of not approving them lol, I've seen many members say that they haven't approved for the same reasons and the person who tried to post the comment then gets advised that their comment has not been approved and for what reason.

As far as I can see, no....you have to either disapprove, trash or spam the comment in the approval section for comments; sources you might like to look at:

https://youtu.be/G0BXYgZuyCQ
https://codex.wordpress.org/Comment_Moderation

Great resources! That's what I thought options were, just did not have comments open for reference. Google search on Wordpress confirmed. A couple times I'd left a comment 'hanging' for a day or so. This was to decide if it was just a little bit off, editing might be done without altering the intent per say of what commenter intended. A while back there was a good comment thread here on WA on the pro-con-ethics thought on that. Thankful for the delete and report as spam for Irrelevant or spam comments.

Yah say something back - along the lines of - "Look out the window there's a cat in your tree!" .... or you leave it there and pretend you didn't see it ..... or you put it in File 13.

...I'd go with Number 1.
:-))

Perhaps we should see if there's a comment thingamibob that allows people to upvote or downvote comments?
(Best ones have the names in the numbers when you hover over them.)

I'm sorry Cate I don't understand what you're saying - What's 'File 13'?

Oh - sorry.... the trash can.

Oh I see lol :)

Hey Jude,
I have been here for just over 3 months now and have been hoping that someone would champion this thought.

I have written almost zero in WA blog and find it incredible that certain individuals blog more than three times a day. How can this be, Jude?

And for the most part, Jude, those three plus posts are 'frivolous.'

Many times, they are not even original. Just 'Copy Cat' Wisdom.

Jude, I have to write a blog as part of my assignment in the training that I am going through, and I am a bit nervous. I hope that I can do it in an original manner. Are there any thoughts that you can offer me to write my first piece of writing.

Respectfully.

Paul.

Hi Paul, are you talking about a post here on WA or on your site?

Here first and then the site.

Here on WA.

Hi Paul, sorry I went to bed and forgot to reply. PM me with whatever you want help with :)

Nice to know.
Thanks.

Jude,
Are you talking about a website or here on WA?

On my website :)

Go to dashboard>comments, you can manage all your comments there.

Hmm, That's odd, it is usually built into the website on how you want the comments to appear and most of them have to be reviewed by you before it goes on the site, unless you have your set up differently, but I would check my settings in the website if you haven't already.

You can set how you want to handle comments in wp-admin > Settings > Discussion.

That's Right :)

Not getting any spam so I dumped the moderation.

I do review them before they go on my site. Up to now I've had comments that I approved because they added something and this one doesn't but I can't see a 'disapprove' button. This is what I have below the comment:

Approve | Reply | Quick Edit | Edit | History | Spam | Trash

But no disapprove?

There's nothing in there that says 'disapprove'

Click on the Approve button.
It should revert back to Unapprove.

Edit in this case might be your solution unless you have already went into your wp settings.

In wp-admin look for the Comments tool. Looks like a little thought bubble. Open that and look for the comment. Mouse over the comment and you'll see options at the bottom of it for un-approve, spam, trash, etc.

There isn't a disapprove button there

It's actually Unapprove.

I would assume then that the comment hasn't been approved yet. But you're saying it still appears on the post? Must be something in the discussion settings.

Maybe just Trash it.

It hasn't been approved as yet because I don't approve of what it says lol. I know I can trash it but I've seen other people say that they haven't approved comments for the same reasons, (it doesn't give anything and I don't think they even read the post they're commenting on,) and so I just wondered how to do it.

Maybe check the Discussion Settings. Here's how I have them on my site at work. On this site, comments aren't visible until I approve them.

Within your admin area click on comments and right under the comment you will see approve, disapprove and some ather stuff just click disapprove hope that helps

There is no 'disapprove', just approve?

Sorry I thought there was but you can just delete it or make it spam hope that helps better lol

This appears to be a random spam like fluke. I would say if there is nothing there, there is no action and nothing to disapprove,

But there is something there Mike and it's from a member here at WA> I thought I could disapprove comments but there is no disapprove button there. I've seen many posts here on WA when someone states that they've disapproved a comment because it didn't offer anything. After all, it's cost me credits to get a comment and so I don't want to lose them by approving something that adds nothing. It doesn't even look like they read the post properly.
