Hard to believe that these people can prey on those people who are a bit gullible or struggling in some way which would make them have a go at this.

Pretty poor form in my opinion.

Clearly this is something to IGNORE TOTALLY.

Would love to meet these people face to face ...

They deserve a face to face, I agree Steve! :)

I have received this kind of e-mail before I join WA a couple of years back, I guess. I did not take any notice of it because it does not seem real to me. Thank you for the warning, Jude. It's good to be cautious nowadays and not to fall easily into this trap. An absolute scam! All the best in all that you do. :)

Thanks Adel :)

They are always good God fearing people...makes you wonder if they are tempting fate? My first scam letter was in the mid eighties, this has been going on forever.......I would get a letter that would say the Nigerian government is so corrupt that they wanted to get x million dollars out of the country and I would get some ridiculous amount if I would send them an invoice from my company so they could transfer the money to me.....nice letter on official looking letterhead...at least they spent some money on looking legit!

......anyhoo...you know it's a scam when they don't even know your name! Plus the email says 'undisclosed' recipients. You read my post on how you can check whether the email is a scam?

The newest scam now is a recorded message to say you haven't paid your taxes and that unless you call the tax dept (they provide the number to call of course) and pay a deposit the police will be at your door to arrest you.

Off to prison is what I say!

Well I'll be joining you there :)

Don't forget the bubbly!

Thank you Jude for the information. My company is receiving these types of e mails multiple times a month. My office staff is always joking about it that there a re lot of "nice" people out there that literally want to get rid of their money. All joking aside, this is not only a Scam but also considered money laundering. As a former expert in this field, it is almost the same story every time. Stay away and delete those e mails as soon as they show up on your e mail account.

Of course :)

The scammers will always try again I have had 15 phone calls in the last 3 days telling me someone has hacked into my interent service. They then say we will give you a refund and ask for bank details

Luckily I am very aware and scam savvy so I just play along with them but I called my internet provider and they showed me how to block the number which I have done so no more calls

The told be that they deal with over 18 million scam calls like this every year

That's disgusting isn't it. I had one today and when I asked where he got my details from, he put the phone down. thanks for stopping by Baz :)

To be honest Jude when receiving an email such as this one - you should not even OPEN IT! I did once, coming from some African country. I had no intention of giving them one cent, however - as I had opened the email it had malware/phising/spyware attached to it. One thing led to another and before I knew it, I had been charged a lot of money coming from one of my bank accounts for airline tickets that I, supposedly, had purchased for a trip abroad.

It took a great deal of effort on my part and cooperation from this bank before I could correct the situation.

Again don't even open these types of emails. If you have mail in your inbox coming from an email address that is completely unfamiliar put it into your spam box. If the particular account for your email is at all good, it would soon recognize any future scam emails coming from this same address. And of course you would eventually delete all of your spam that had accumulated anyway - preferably daily.

It's a shame that these criminals still populate our world who have nothing but bad intentions. However it is what it is!

Everyone always watch your backs! That Mrs. Wendy Jane Williams the supposed "sender" of the email that you received Jude was no 65 year old woman. No, probably he was a 23 year old punk living in the basement of his parents' house, unemployed, and with plenty of time on his hands out to try and pull his latest criminal activity on unsuspecting individuals.

Jeff

So very true Jeff. :)

Hi:
This is the scam that has been targeting Canadians for a long time. It's called the 'Nigeria' scam'. It seems to be moving aroundif it's now in South Africa.

We learned to just delete it. I think some people have gone to Nigeria to check it out but I never heard of an outcome.

If it sounds too good to be true ,it probably isn't!

Exactly! :)

They are so predictable with their scamms, I had once gotten an email from a guy that is supposed to be "american soldier in Afghanistan and he needed to get the money across the border and for my service he will give half of the money "yeah right :D".

It's so predictable that it's easy to spot them, as soon as it sounds like a novel of some kind it is a scam and thank god they are predictable otherwise we would be scammed left and right.

So true :)

I often get similar mails - and I immediately click them away when I, crossreading, see it is about money. I am wondering why there is no big news about this sort of scamming and pishing - people want to hear only about terrorist attacks, but wouldn't it be much more useful if they learnt how to protect themselves from internet attacks which exploit their ignorance?

So very true Heidi :)

Oh yeah.... I had one of those recently.
From Mrs Suzanne Mubarak (ex-Hosni's wife!) who wanted to buy a house for 1/2 a mil to 3mil dollars US. So.... I offered to sell her mine for 1.5. (Thought I wouldn't be greedy)

But when I insisted that she pay her upfront payment of 2.5 mil into a Paypal (no banking details, address or telephone required) account - she bugged out.

:-)

I love that Cate - play them at their own game! :)
