how do you insert YouTube videos in a post?

Looks to me that the folks here at WA have your question covered.

hi, just wondering... do we have the right to share other people's youtube video in our website?

I would say yes. They have an embed link for that very reason. Also, when you embed a link onto your website you are giving the other person traffic. That's the entire purpose of YouTube.

Keep in mind you aren't claimimg it as your own. You're just using it to supplement your information, and perhaps share something you like.

Thanks for answering! :)

Can you take a screenshot of what you see on the youtube channel and put it above in your question?

This is the post: http://findingthedoor.com/help-with-low-self-esteem
I think it is better this way...using the url instead. This way I will not need to install another plugin.
Thanks,
James

Does it work when you put this code in your textarea? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/EzQQOMW3DQM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Been wondering but I don't think I'm there in my training. Great question!

no idea

I did that on my site yesterday for the first time and it was pretty easy. The url is on the Youtube page (address bar or in a link box under the video). Simply Copy & paste it into a blog post. If it is part of an article, above the post box is an icon that looks like a chain - click on it and add the url there. If I can do it - you can too :)
I'm sure Marion's tutorial has much better detail. Just wanted you to know it's not difficult.

That is what I eventually have done. I have had websites in the past using the embedded code. Do it that way put the video right in my website. This was before YouTube was purchased by Google.
James

Hi Marion,
I thought you had a training on it. Thanks for being always ready with an answer.
James

I wrote those posts before I qualified for writing training modules (during my first three months at WA).

it is very easy one click. Go to the address bar and copy ad paste the URL go to your website/blog ad make sure you are in html mode and paste the address, job done, it is not necessary to embed it

Thanks.....that's the answer I needed. They don't have an embed code listed on the video. All I could get was the url. I'll give it a try.
Thanks,
James

At the bottom of the video click on the "Share" tab them go to embed. Copy the HTML and then Paste it in the "Text" part of your blog post. Make sure its not the visual. Hope this helps :)

No embed code available.

What's the link to the video?

Wordpress is asking for a update on my website, but they caution to do a backup first. Are our sites backup done by Site Rubix? Do I need to do a separate backup?

James

Welshy has a great tutorial on Dropbox, or you can install WP backit up plugin for free

You can also use this https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/backup-wordpress-to-dropbox-tutorial which is also recommended by Kyle!

Training from Kyle https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-back-up-your-wordpress-site-using-tools-export

Like Kristy I also use WP Database Backup. :)

Thanks Kathy,
You are always a life saver....and always there. Much appreciated!
James

You're welcome. :)

I think WA does back things up, but most people recommend a plugin. I use WP Database Backup and it's worked well.

Thank you

In reading the WP info they suggest 3 separate backups. I wonder if that is redundant or definitely needed.

Maybe this is something for the support team at Site Rubix.

Wow, 3 seems redundantly redundant!

Hi James. I like WP Clone amongst others. Just search under plugins and install. After you have activated the plugin, you will find it close to the bottom in your left margin menu. After that it is just one click backup and one click restore.

Have fun.

Thank you.

What are the purposes of categories?

Great question. I've wondered this myself.

If your website has a silo structure, the categories can help you keep the right content in the right silos for better seo performance (so different themes/topics dont get mixed up when Google determines you sites topics)

If not, they are handy for easier navigation if you use the categories as menus in your menubar or sidebar. This is also good for seo since it will improve user experience.

Assuming you have categories, go into Posts and here you will find the section Category. For each Category create a title, keyword and description, this helps with your optimization and SEO.

Thank you for that Jsmart, something I wondered myself.

What incredible information. I did not realize categories went this broadly across the site. Thanks to everyone for such thorough explanations. And Thank you J for such a superb question. I didn't know what I didn't know.

In the beginning you have a few posts, but after a year or so you will have dozens, and then it is handy to have them categorized. A few about earning, some about scams, so when people are on your site looking for specific subjects they can find them quickly

If you sell shoes, you can set different categories like lady's shoe, men's shoe and children's shoe. So visitor will know how to navigate in your website.

Thank you.

If you use a blog roll on your home page, it makes it easier for your visitors to find posts related to certain subjects. I make sure all my shoe posts are in categories on verydressyflats.com as I can't do menus across the top of the theme. This way, if someone is looking for flats, they click on that category and all applicable posts come up. If they want boots, they click on that and all those applicable posts come up. Once your site gets massive, scrolling through the whole blog roll will be very unwieldy and most people won't do it.

Thank you. I can see how it will make the site easier to navigate.

Great example - thanks.

You can categorize your posts into different topics. Lets say you are doing reviews on scams and you are also doing reviews on different affiliate opportunities .. You would create the categories. "Categories" is under "Posts" on your "Dashboard".One could be "scams to watch out for" and one could be "affiliate opportunities". After you create the category it will show up on the right side of your "edit post" page and you would check the category that you want to put that post in. Your categories will show up on the sidebar of your web page. When someone wants to look at all of your posts on "scams" they could just click on your "scams to watch out for" category.

I hope that made at least a little sense to you. lol I tried!

Thank you. That makes sense.

You are welcome.

This was the answer given to a question as follows: Could a blog post used in WA be also used on that person's website. They were told that it was against the rules.

I see you have a lot of good answers so I will say all the best

If you are writing an article about WA and you want to add to your content as way of proof or substantiate a claim you are making about WA you can use other writers content in quotation to back your statement but must give credit to the original author. This is allowed, it is also a good idea to get permission from the author as well.

Yeah, listen to Tommy and everyone else. Use the affiliate links, not the content directly.

Kathy and Tommy was absolutely right, just make
sure you give credit, to where its do.

Tommy has the right answer, it's in the early training. We are encouraged to use affiliate links from ANY article/blog post as leverage to promote WA. :)

I agree as long as you acknowledge the Author and give reference to the Author (APA) then all is well in the Universe. if you don't then its call plagiarism..and that's not a good thing here at WA

Tommy's answer makes sense to me. If I see something really good that someone else posts, either I share it via Facebook or via Twitter. That's a good way of honoring the other author and not doing anything illegal.

I agree.
Thanks

That is true because if you used someone else's content on there website it would be considered duplicated work. But if you copied the affiliate link from the blog and posted it you would get credit if someone else signed up from it.

In viewing a website from another member I noticed viewing problems which she could not see. I am using a Kindle Fire could that be the problem?

Thank you all for this discussion, you too J S; I'm learning sooo much just by reading all your comments. Live long and prosper!

What I have found is we must make our sites with a responsive theme.

Alan has it. You need a responsive theme. I didn't know about this when I started WA and I got really lucky that both of mine are visible exactly the same on tablets/phones, etc. KindleFire has its own browser so that adds another layer, but a responsive theme should be okay with it.

TY. Yes it has worked on every other site I have visited with no problem.

Hi James, when picking out a theme, be sure to check the ratings at the bottom of the screen. That is where you will find out if the theme is mobile compatable or not. :-) Jon

TY.

Some themes only support certain devices, may want to look at what your theme is compatible with. This can be updated to your theme as well.
What is the URL for your site? You don't have it listed below your profile.

This was a site that I reviewed in the "Authoring and Writing Content" training. What I viewed on the site was not the same as the site creator.

Sorry, I didn't catch that, 3 AM here and it has been a long day, night and now morning again....Lol.

Same answer though, only she needs the answer and to check her site theme. Your device is probably fine, its relatively new and her site theme may not have the appropriate app compatibilities to connect with your device.

Yes, of course they are. Some theme give better layout on mobile device and some not.
