One of my websites allows image sizes of up to 8MB to be uploaded. But my 2nd website only allows images of up to 2MB to be uploaded. Why is this?

Did you figure this one out? Are both sites Wordpress? Hosted here or elsewhere?

Images should normally not be that big, but sometimes you need to upload a file that is much larger that this, perhpas a zip or whatever.

Anyways. It's probably server related, if you have access to php.ini, open that one and find "upload_max_filesize = 2MB" change that to whatever you like. But also change max_input_time and max_ececution_time. If you don't have access, you need to contact your web host provider, they can do it for you.

I just resize the images and everything is fine. Both sites are hosted here. For some reason they have different image size allowances. No big deal really just odd.

I would assume they use WP Multisite here, then it is even easier to change this. If you had access... You probably don't, but send a message to the site owners and it normally is easy to change.

Oh ok. Thanks for the info.

No but I did test out the theme for my other site on it and same thing. But it's ok. I'm over it lol. Just gonna resize as needed.

Are you using the same theme for both sites?

It's probably theme related. However, you shouldn't be uploading images this large, anyway. Any image editing app will let you open large images, size them to whatever you need, and save as a JPG in high quality. Even large images will be less than 1MB as a JPG. I've been getting 320px wide images down to 25k.

Yea I have been doing some resizing. I just thought it was weird that both of my websites have different allowances. I never had to resize an image when I was building my first website. I thought it might have been theme-related too, so I tested out some other themes but it's still the same. But it's ok. I just have to resize a few pics is all. No big deal I guess.

Hello AMPro,

Can you help me understanding. 25K = how many px?

What is the difference between K and MB and PX

Thank you.

Sure, Gilbert. I'm working on a more detailed explanation, but this may help for now:

1 MB is 1024k. It's just like saying $1 is 100 pennies. These terms are used to describe file size (not image size), or how much space they occupy in your computer.

PX refers to how many pixels are in the image. When I said 320px, I was referring to the number of pixels in the horizontal direction of my image. A 320x320px image would be square image.

Depending on file type (jpg, tiff, etc), and the quality specified, the same size image (in pixels) can be different sizes (in K or MB) on your drive. This is due to how the image information is stored.

This is just scratching the surface, in terms of detail, so I hope it helps. Let me know.

Bart

Thank you Bart.

Can you suggest a good image editing application?

Gilbert

Well, that depends on which platform you're using.

I've been a Mac users for 26 years, so I use iPhoto. It's included with every Mac. Also, Photoshop.

If you're using Windows, check to see if you already have an image editing app on your system. If not, check out Google's free Picasso. I've heard people say good things about it, but I've never used it.

Bart

Thank you Bart and have a nice evening.

Gilbert

GIMP is a free image editor that is almost as powerful as Photoshop if you are strapped for cash.

Thank you Labman.

When I view my site, it looks a certain way which is the way I want it. But if I view it another time, it looks completely different. And it changes back and forth. I don't kn

Different themes definitely play a part in how your viewing features turn out. I've found the responsive themes work best for blogging. Personally I've had to change mine about 15 times to finally get one that worked well with my set up, I like to use a lot of pics in my articles so as soon as I inserted another pic it would screw up the alignment of the paragraphs. If you want to view your site how others would see it, use Google Chrome and in the right hand side upper corner there are small tabs, click on the icon and use "incognito mode" to view your site.

Never heard of this. Sounds technical though for sure. Myself, I would go in and save the one you like. To begin with. Then I would check on the theme itself and see if it needs ugrading or has had any problems. What theme is it? You can go to a private browsing and pull it up like you are someone else and see what it looks like. But to me it sounds like you need to change the theme with another to see if it continues. At least you will know if it is the theme causing the problem.

Hi.
That is strange - have you added a plugin that may have started this? Can you think when it started happening? it must be a code prob, (very tech), but it would norm be the theme or a plugin that would be able to do this - also to note - is this always on the same "browser" you are looking at the site?
OldMule

I tried google chrome and firefox but it does it on both, my theme is very simple but I like it. I guess I could try a different theme to see if it is that. Might just be my computer actinh up. It is old and getting slower by the day and I haven't cleaned it in ages. I will get it figured out.thanks for the input OldMule

Throw me your website address - I have 4 computers running here - all different ages and operating systems.
