It is Not All About What You Know - Yet Also Who You Know!

Hello to all my Wealthy Affiliate family! Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. I spent the weekend remembering my Dad, who; as I mentioned in an earliest post, was buried on this day four years ago. I'm not trying to be over dramatic, but his passing is still a raw emotion for me and memories of him are always in the forefront of my thoughts.

With that said, let's move on to the topic at hand.

Did you ever hear a saying that is something similar to this blog title?

Do you believe that this is true? I do!

Do you want to know why? Sometimes knowledge is not enough - but connections do not work without certain knowledge either.

So, a combination of knowledge + connections (your network of people) is the best way to move forward.

Why?

Keep on reading this post and you will find out the connection between these two things, but also how to make your online business (and adventure) a lot more secure than your 9-5 job could ever be.

Knowledge is Power

That is why there are schools, colleges, degrees, and even courses that help teach you everything you need to know about a certain subject.

Not all sources are equally great, however, it is important as humans to develop further by acquiring knowledge.

If you know something more than someone else, you are definitely going to feel smarter. But being smarter is also great as you get to experience more opportunities, whether it is related to work, hobbies, or anything else in your life.

But is knowledge the only important thing or aspect of humans? I do not think so!

Why?

Just have a look at the hit that economy received because of the pandemic situation. A lot of knowledgeable people "lost" their "power" since a lot of companies were forced to close.

But not all companies did close and not all people lost their jobs. Remote working is on the rise and everything related to digital services and work is still thriving - at least that is what I have noticed.

But so Are the Connections

If you are truly knowledgeable, you still need to make a connection to take advantage of your knowledge and turn it into something else (such as money from doing a job).

How many times did you see someone get the job they are not qualified just because they had the "connection"?

How many people are in politics just because they were well connected?

Even though most people do not think about this - it is actually happening everywhere in the world.

And if you think that you cannot grow connections - you are wrong.

As an internet marketer, affiliate marketer, and an online business owner - you have a wide range of places to look out for connections.

You can connect with anyone who owns any type of an online business, anyone who offers any digital service, anyone who is a part of affiliate programs, or anyone that works for some of the companies you are affiliated with.

And why is this important?

If you lose a 9-5 job today - what would be your next move? Who would you contact?

Wealthy Affiliate is a Great Start to Grow Your Network

I have seen members here offering to pay other member's Black Friday deal. Let us say you lost your 9-5 job - what would you be able to do within your network?

You could immediately start looking for some work. For example, another member might need some help with content or optimization, and they could pay you for your services.

Another member might have an established business that is not related to affiliate marketing and they could help you out for a couple of weeks or months.

Someone running a successful online store might help you out by hiring you to do some assistant work for them.

The point is - having a network of same-minded people who are in the same business as you are is great. You never know when you might be able to help someone out, and you never know when you might be in the situation where you would need to ask for help.

But having the network you can reach out to and immediately find a solution to your problem is something everyone should have.

Why?

Because a successful network of successful people is always more secure than one 9-5 job or one income stream!

How big is your network?

I use this saying often in my physical business, Sis! Especially in a small town! What might be impossible for others is quite possibly when you have a large business network with other service personnel in various trades! I used to always spout--and sometimes still do, "It's not WHAT you know, but WHO you know!"

Truer words have never been spoken--also akin yo "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours!"

Brudda

I know what you mean. It was like that throughout my career working for the Navy at Lakehurst.

Sis

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and more... the experience.

Thank you for joining the conversation.

Connections on social media are tenuous at best. People who don't know each other and who are not in the same business for the most part who never have an actual conversation other than the social media platform.

You csn tell a lot more about someone even though a voice to voice phone conversation but that doesn't happen on social media.

Even in the outside world millennials are reluctant to talk, preferred to text each other. One time I was sitting in a booth at a What-A-Burger and 2 girls about 16 were sitting at the next booth. The didn't say a word to each other but were texting each other and giggling. It made me want to throw up my hamburger.

Neil,
Thank you for commenting.
I know exactly what you mean.

I was at restaurant back in October in Northern Virginia.
The place was packed and it must've been a high school social of some kind.

Everyone was on their phones texting and the were standing next to each waiting to get a table.

We happened to get seated at the table next to them. No one looked up at one another. They kept their eyes on the phone and continued to text. I was wondering what was going to happen when the waiter showed up to take their order.
So ridiculous ๐Ÿ˜ก. It was pathetic.

Technology and innovations are not supposed to be bad things, but people nowadays, take it to the extreme.

No one actually has a face to face conversation anymore.

This pandemic doesn't help things either, when it comes to socializing in person.

In my working life, I strove hard to gain all the knowledge of my craft as I could. Schooling, seminars, various trainings etc. At the same time, I was putting myself out there on the radar of the powers that be. It paid off. I became one of the best of the best in what I did, and the powers that be took notice. In the latter days of my career, I became one of the powers that be. It was all about knowledge and networking. Good post Barbara

Greg

Hey Greg,
Thank you for sharing your experiences on the topic.

I tried to do the same thing in my former career. It worked out for me very well until I got the cancer and had to retire.

Barbara

Building social connections will always have a power of its own. Great post and so true.
