Are You Being a Perfectionist?
Since I only live 8 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, I'm sure that within the next several days, we will experience some higher windsπ¬ and a great deal of rain π§ π§β until the storm moves further up the coast or farther out to sea.
Okay, now onto the Wealthy Affiliate business at hand. Today, for some unknown reason, I happened to check on my Amazon Affiliate account. I was surprised to see that I had made another commission. π²π²π So, someone out there is still using the few Amazon Affiliate links that I left on my websites.
That brought a bit of sunshine in a day that was basically wasted because I wasn't feeling very well. So now I will move onto the rest of my blog.
Are You Being a Perfectionist?
Practice makes perfect. We've all heard that one, right?
But do you really want to be perfect, and most importantly - do you even need to be important?
When it comes down to online businesses - yes, you want everything to be on point. But this doesn't mean you have to spend a crazy number of hours trying to perfect something.
Do you want to know what's more important than perfect? It's consistency and productivity.
Find out why and how you can shift your focus to do more things without compromising the quality.
Practice Makes Perfect, Right?
Wrong.
In our situation, perfect will only slow you down. Are you trying to make your homepage perfect? It'll take you many hours.
But what if you made your homepage work efficiently and stop once you are sure that it works fine, looks decent, and serves its purpose?
That would help you save time, move on with the training, and in the long run - improve your business better and faster.
But what about a "perfect homepage"? The great thing about working digitally is that you can always go back and edit your homepage and make as many changes as you wish.
Therefore, nothing is set in stone - so keep on moving forward and you will take care of everything else in the meantime.
Perfect Takes Time and it Isn't Sustainable
In the previous chapter, I gave you just one example of how perfection can set you off track, waste your time, and lessen the chance of moving on with your business at a faster rate.
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/jrzygrlbj/blog/how-much-time... you know what is sustainable?
A business that is often updated and keeps getting improved over a period. As you all know, creating an online business around affiliate marketing includes a lot of different aspects. You can't know everything, and you can't be good at everything - but knowing just enough will keep you moving.
What is your daily routine? What takes most of your time when you are down to work?
These are just some questions that could help you understand whether you're subconsciously trying to make things perfect.
If you are not being a perfectionist - you might be afraid of moving forward with your training. That's completely normal and it happens to the best of us.
Whatever the reason is that is stopping you, just keep in mind: a done task is far better than a perfect task.
Do More Things and Then Update & Improve Later
You shouldn't skip training or skip doing tasks. You should stick to the training and follow it.
However, you shouldn't worry too much about the smallest details or things that come your way. Why?
There will be a lot of these details - and worrying about each one of them will have you shift your focus and spend too much time working on it.
We all have the same 24 hours in a day. But each one of us is responsible for doing the most we can with the time we have on our hands.
For example, there was a member who recently asked whether there's a way to write all blog posts but not publish them until they're "perfect".
This is the wrong approach. Keeping all your posts in the draft means that your posts and site won't be getting indexed at all, your site won't get rankings, and if you don't have rankings to improve - you will stall.
We all trust the process and most of us who stick to it see results relatively quickly. But we are all impatient at one point or another.
Therefore, publish the post as it is and get back to it and improve it later. Do that task and then re-do it a week later if you aren't happy.
Keep moving forward and everything will fall into its place!

Good points Barbara,
Waiting to get everything perfect will be the death of anybody's business.
I used to a terrible perfectionist, cogitator, masticator, procrastinator and everything in between and it got me nowhere!
Better to get going and fine tune as you go along because nobody will fault you for it and at least you'll be on your way.
I'm on the Atlantic Coast too but the other side of the pond. Stand on the coast looking east and I'll stand on ours looking west and we could wave at each other....except that due west for me is on the level of Nova Scotiaππ
Have a great day Barbara, hope the wind doesn't get you!
Mark
So very true, Mark! Thank you for your thoughts on the subject.
We can do a virtual π wave ππ
Rain has begun very lightly here but cloudy and cool.
Have to wait to see what the week brings. Have a great one!

Great advice Barb. Thanks for your post. I know that I try to make everything perfect the first go around, thinking that I am saving time. But that may not be the case. I will try to not to be a perfectionist about my writing and website.
Take care
Charlotte
You're very welcome, Charlotte.
I'm glad that I gave you something to think about.
