Today, people want control... they want the choice... to see or not to see, that is the issue. If you want to insure that people don't click on any of your posted videos ever again, take away the controls. Once they discover they can't control it, the focus becomes escaping, not the video and it's content. They will close the one they are viewing and they won't be back and they won't click you again... Also, there is the issue of length...while we may love what we are showing, viewers may not feel that way... you don't have to tell them the whole story in one video... you just need to make it interesting, leave them wanting more... and then give them a special button to click and wow! it's magic! more videos... more info... nice article... give them what they want (what a concept!) :)

Good discussion, especially if we're developing videos (which I haven't yet). Goes to the whole idea here in WA of writing good content. If folks are engaged and the article or video is with them in mind, they would likely stay.

Thanks Rick, I haven't done a video yet either; but I know that when I do, I am not going to disable the video controls. That's too much of a manipulative type of video, for my taste.

The reason you can't pause or fast forward is the video producer has disabled the video controls.

Leo

Thanks Leo. Does the producer of the video do that intentionally to hold the viewer captive? It annoys me, and I find myself leaving the video if the first minute doesn't get my attention; which is most of the time.

Yeah it's up to the producer of the video - and yes they do that so you can't skip ahead in the video, and forces people to watch the complete video - which in most cases has a sales pitch at the end for a product or service

The products and services being pitched are usually useless pieces of garbage. So don't worry you're not missing anything -

Leo

Thanks for that confirmation Leo; I was starting to conclude the same thing.

In my keyword search for my domain name in preparation for boot-camp, the .com version wasn't available, but .co is: Is there any detrement to going with a .co ending on the domai

Definitely go with a .com if it is available. I suggest:

.com
.org
.net

in this order when choosing domains.

Carson

Thanks Carson. I may have to settle for .org. But I think it will work out.

.com's will rank the highest and they tend to be the most commonly typed in domains. The ranking is critical with domains and the speed in which a new site will get ranked does depend on the domain extension. .com and .org domains tend to be the best for that.

.co domains rolled out a few years back and they were supposed to be a hit, and they were for the companies selling them (but ended of fizzling very quickly). They don't get ranked and they are not all that memorable.

.com wins.

Thanks Kyle. If .com wins, is it OK to settle for .org if I really like my domain name, but can't get the .com?

Yes, .org's are the 2nd best.

Thanks Kyle; If you get a chance before Wednesday, can you look for a PM I sent you?

I will absolutely get to this..I will try to get to it shortly here :)

My experience is that in general people tend to go with the .com if they are available. Many years ago .com domains was primarily for commercial sites, while .org was for organizations and so on. People has claimed that a .com domain would be easier to rank than other domains. I don´t know, but these days I think you could rank a .org or .net just as easily. Some people say that you should not use .info because a lot of hackers are using these domains. In general if you can´t get at .com you can just go for .org or .net domain. It will probably work just as well. I´m not so familiar with .co domains so I can´t advice you on this one.

Thanks Henning. So if the .com version of the domain name I want is taken, and the .org version is available, should I go ahead with the .org?
