Ever thought about being a mystery shopper?
I have done it, and I have actually enjoyed it. I cannot go into detail about the jobs I have done because when you apply for these jobs you sign a disclosure statement. I can however tell you about the types of jobs performed such as:
- Rating the quality of restaurant service
- Rating the taste of a food item
- Rating quality of customer service at retail store
- Submitting photos for quality assurance
- Telephone interviews
- Store Audits
I have enjoyed doing mystery shopping because I get to be paid for services I enjoy on a daily basis. Some of these services included receiving a massage, getting an oil change, or even just a makeover.
To get started, you simply have to apply for these jobs. Please be wary as there are some scams out there on the internet. Any site that asks you for money upfront to provide you these jobs I advise you to avoid because you don't need to. There are plenty of corporations looking for mystery shoppers like you to let them know how their quality of service is going. Some of my favorites have been:
- www.jobslinger.com (This site will get you started in all the major mystery shopping networks)
I do not make a commission off of any of these links, I am only providing them here for suggestions.
I do suggest you create a separate email address for mystery shopping because you will immediately become bombarded by emails for qualifying shops.
This is one way I have supplemented my income in my spare time. What else have any of you done to make extra money? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you. This is great information. I always run into the sites that charge a fee and the return is not that great. I will be looking into these.
I have never paid a fee because there really is no need to. Depending on your availability you can clock in a good amount of extra cash as a side income. I wish I had more time to do the store audits. Those require you to be there practically all day but the pay is worth the time.
I have done this once in retail. You load up your cart and "purchase" a representative amount of groceries or other merchandise and then report on the quality and characteristics of the process at check out!
Interesting. I haven't had a job like that pop into my inbox yet but it sounds like something I would love to try

Thanks for sharing your story and the links, Josephine. I will look into mystery shopping.
I´m not making extra money by being a traveling helper, but since I do this I´ve no expenses such as housing, utilities, and grocery shopping and what I don´t spend, I don´t have to earn.
