Hello Friends

Sleepless in Beirut

Sitting here tonight, reflecting back, listening to old 70's tunes, a few which I'm sure my Friend Boomer would enjoy. Beirut's not kind of place you'd want to kick up what Harry Chapin coined a " footloose jay". For a foreigner it carries a hefty penalty.

So as Dusk haunts once again my rooftop pad, I click on some Harry Chapin, thinking that somehow he'll ease my Homesick Soul.

https://youtu.be/Y80tCsXePrI

No such luck, his voice is just just reminiscent of the sweet smell of Cashmere, a black paste we use to roll up in the seventies. I'm sure many remember those innocent years. We were so Blessed growing up in a Free World..

Growing up in the land of The Free

Travelling through the Middle Est, I can't help but be proud of what we've achieved. I don't know if you guys can imagine, you can be executed here for not having the right sexual orientation, or if you are found out to be an adulteress, or if you happen to be born on the wrong side of God's fence.

No Jet plane, just hopping an old bus to Damascus.

Well actually to Aleppo, Damascus just had a nicer ring ;))

Yup, aside from helping refugees, it was a career choice. I came to Lebanon last year to be an Aid Worker, and to fulfill another Dream; to Be an accomplished Writer. However I never counted on experiencing what it would be like, to almost pee my pants out of fear.

Well to be modest, there have been a time or two,, while laying face down on the scorching black top, with the muzzle of an AK 47 snuggled up against the back of my neck, when I have dribbled in my pants. Now those are the few times I regretted not wearing underwear in this crazy heat.

However, that's another story, not to be discussed here at WA.

Being me, and telling it like it is.

I get emails and comments, telling me that I'm just hyping up WA, that WA can't possibly be as awesome as I depict it. I've been accused of even upselling WA, in order to get more referrals. Sheesh man, I haven't even started my referral campaign, LMAO ;)).

The Blatant Truth

WA and Members here, are teaching me how to be successful, and how to promote myself. What steps I need to take not only to promote my Dream of One Peaceful World, also how I can at least live in the financial comfort I deserve, that we all deserve.

A Parting note

Take it from me, WA is genuine, in fact it's ahead of it's time. WA and Members here, can be exemplified by this following Quote;

As we look ahead into the next century, Leaders will be those who Empower others'

~Bill Gates

So written, I'm outta here ;))

Later Gators

The '70's were far out man! I can dig the goovey tunes as well. I was listening last week on YouTube for the "classics" myself. And, it is true, some memories are grand & others not so. But all in all, LIFE IS GOOD! Prayers your way for the dudes with AK-47's to go opposite the way you are. (I'd probably pee myself too!)

Thank you Terry, next time I'll look into "depends". LMAO
Thanks for taking the time
Blessings to you and yours
Joseph

Harry Chapin, one of the true tragics of music. I love his music. Since I haven't lived in Canada for quite a while I will wish you happy 'Dominion' Day.

Thank You
Don't know if you knew I'm Irish ;))
We never cared much for the "Dominion" thinghy ;))
My fav Prime Minister changed that over to Canada day, amongst other awesome changes he made ... Who btw was PM Trudeau.
Thanks Helen

Proud Canadian ones though...

Hi Joseph, keep hyping WA everyone needs something to believe in and after some of the programs I was a part of this works for me. Don't get too hung up on the seventies, we were all rebels back then. That might not be a good thing in the place you are now. As for the music, we both know that will never die. Just don't blast it like we did back then.

Have a great friend.

Thanks, you made me lmao, way to go!!!
I blast it now so I can hear it better ;))
Stay in touch
You are always in my Prayers
Blessings to you and yours Brother
Joseph

Hi Joseph . Great post .
You are a great writer..
Take care .

You do such an amazing job out there us ordinary people just couldn't imagine what it is like in Beirut. As for WA you are right it is such an awesome site with a great community, I am so pleased that I found it. Keep up the good work Jozeph are prayers are with you.

Be well Joseph! WA would be much the poorer if you weren't part of the chorus.

Dennis

Hey Dennis, I apologize I missed your call, I was solooking forward to talking with you.
If you can find some time on Sunday I'd really appreciate it.
Heading out to camps this week, and lining up stable connections to travel to Aleppo.
Safety here is always relative.
Thank You Dennis
Joseph

Great Blog Joseph - Beirut once coined the pearl of the Middle East alas is now in political ruin. I knew a great Lebanese couple who would kill you with their hospitality many years ago, they decided to go back and we lost touch.
Kahlil Gibran is one of my favourite Lebanese Poet his poem about the the Prophet is one of my favourites.

Yup, I've come to Love Lebanon. I've come here off and on for the last few years.
As you've mentioned, it has changed, and yet remains the last Christian stronghold
Peace my Friend
Joseph
