Making Web Building Easier; A Few More Ways To Skin A Grape.

Hey Friends :)

A few months ago, while absent from WA, I did a bit of research, as I wanted to keep on working on my Websites, all the while working on my book. My absence from here was indeed due to two main factors;

First, the areas I was travelling in, here in the Middle East had most internet connectivity cut off. The reasons for this, are beyond WA framework, so I'll have to let you do the math on your own, as there are no marginal shades of grey to play in :)

Secondly, the nature of my present career leaves me quite often short of extra cash, however it is highly successful as far as bringing aid to refugees. It's not something I'll be doing full time for the rest of my Life, though it will always be an integral part of my path. So said, along with the present exchange rate, I was also unable to continue on with the monthly payment.

Now during the Black Friday WA offer, I received an email from a close Friend, who after I explained why I wasn't @ WA, offered to lend me the cash to go yearly. I hesitated, slept on it, as I had to make sure I could pay it back, and of course, I do have my much cherished, big, fat Ego to tend with, as well as keeping it well fed :)

Anyway, I did finally accept my Friend's offer, so here I am, still...

While I was away.

After checking that indeed I wasn't posting a no-no post here at WA, I decided to share the following info with everyone, thank you to all who helped and answered :)

A Friend of mine here posted this morning, on which he also mentioned working on "parked websites" using notepad. I cringed, omg such a process. His post was indeed what prompted me to share these two programs I found while I was away :)

As a writer, I've typed out endless pages on notepad, and other similar word processing programs. I've always found it such a pain in the derriere to keep track of work, constantly going back and forth, searching for such and such, in a certain chapter, of which I wasn't even one hundred percent sure that what I was searching for, was indeed in that particular part of my manuscript. .

Ya, I see you smiling, you've been there too eh?

Then I discovered Scrivener, and wow.

If you're a writer, or if you want to compile and categorize content for your "parked website, you owe it to yourself to go check Scrivener out. It's a Writer's wet dream, as you'll be soon swimming in every option of categorization imaginable. For ebook writers, once your book written, it will even create your book in most formats.

Best, is that you can work on it, offline.

A slight down side

Scrivener is a once in a lifetime, paid program, albeit not overly expensive. That said, what I did, was use their 30 day free trial to find a coupon. Every morning, first thing I did was search for one. They have a common 20% off, then a less common 50% off coupon. Then if you're really lucky, and hang in by the skin of your teeth till almost the very end of your free trial, you might just luck out and find a 90%off coupon as I did, which ended up being just a few bucks :)

Keep your eye on the ball

The best coupons appear only for a day, then "poof", they're gone.

You can also use your licence on multiple computers, I just sent it to my son :)

I Love it, I wonder how I've managed to go so long without it

My next Amazing find

If you're a beginner, or newbie, and want to learn a bit of coding, to make your life easier (ie, clickable links and images etc) I highly suggest you look into notepad++, not to be confused with notepad .

Now while you can use notepad to write out html and css, it's like peeing upwind. Notepad is a word processor, it's not designed for writing code. Make one little mistake, and as a newbie, well welcome Swiss Family Robinson, as you'll be lost in space wondering what and where did I do wrong???

Notepad++ is a free Open Source initiative, that allows you to write and then test out your code online. You can later transfer your code to the "text" part of Wordpress, which is the tab right next to the "Visual" tab where you write your content, without much chance of mucking things up :)

Ease of use,

All the code you write in notepad++, is color coded, so when you do make a mistake, it's really easy to find. Should you try it out, you'll quickly understand what I mean.

Something to watch for

Keep watch over the next while, as I'll be creating a few tutorials on these subjects, which because of WA, and all I'm learning here, is quickly becoming a passion :).

Always a pleasure sharing with all my great Friends here @ WA

That's all for now folks :)

Later Gators

You're very welcome Barry :)

Hi Joseph, I've always used Notepad++ as my text editor in conjunction with WP text editor. There are others free editors, such as Kompozer and My Free Website Builder that will do the job but Notepad++ is my #1. Why pay for expensive programs such as Dreamweaver when Notepad++ is adequate for what most of us need?

My thoughts exactly Harry, and the ease of use, is wonderful :)
Have a great day my Friend
J.

Thanks Joseph,
I used to work in Dreamweaver, but let that go, so it's good to find a light alternative.
Michael

I am going to find out for sure what this notepad++ exactly is :)) Thanks Joseph, and take care. It was on the news that they hopefully finally are going to evacuate the citizens of Madaya

Let me know what you think about it :)
What a sin about Madaya, was so beautiful
Take care Sis
