To Be Honest, Pity Is Not My Strong Point

Happy Sunday Friends

After reading a few posts on here, I felt compelled to write this. Have a great Sunday Folks :)

I have little use for feeling Pity.

‘It means very little to know that a million Chinese are starving unless you know one Chinese who is starving.’

John Steinbeck

Pity seldom helps anyone, and in itself implies that the person does not deserve their plight, and is unable to prevent, change, or grow from it. Pity has nothing at all to do with feeling compassion, or empathy. In fact, pity is little more than an acknowledgement of another person's dire plight, and often carries a paternalistic and condescending flavour.

However, being an Empath, I'm also compassionate, and have an innate drive to help out. I can share in someone's emotions, help find solutions, and when found, it will often elevate the condition to a transcending experience.

So why am I writing this?

Altruism at WA

Whether synchronicity or coincidence, while having my first caff, I happed on three posts in the row, that dealt with either how the member was having such a hard time, felt like giving up, or not understanding the jargon. One was even wondering if WA was nothing more than an elaborate get rich scheme. I really wondered how this person came to such a conclusion. Another mentioned how WA didn't even have a glossary of internet terms.

One main commonality they shared with each other, is that they had asked few to no questions at all.

Now clearly I had compassion for how they were feeling, however not for an instant did I pity them.

So what's the solution?

Taking Baby Steps

Being at WA is no different than taking any other class, the advantage we do have, is that we can learn at our own pace.

~In any new learning, there's a learning curve, the beginning is definitely challenging, and at one point or another, everyone will feel the hard climb. There's work to be done, there's no way around it. We've all been there, and will probably be again. Take baby steps, put your head down, and just do it.

~If you come to a place in your lesson where you don't understand "the jargon", stop right there, don't let your eyes glaze over as you keep on reading. Research that word until you understand it's meaning, even if it means studying something before it, to fully grasp. Otherwise you'll run into trouble again down the road, above all remember "google is your friend".

~One of the greatest, if not the greatest tool here at WA, is that you can ask questions, and this in my opinion plays the most important role in achieving your success. If you don't reach out and ask, it will become a hard line to tow.

Remember, this is what makes WA so great, the give and take. You'll be surprised how fast, after being helped, you will be helping others.

~WA is the furthest thing from being a get quick scheme. What it is, is a learning platform, where not only do you learn how to become successful online, it also teaches you Website Development and Design. How far you want to take it, is up to you.

I would challenge anyone, to ask any question concerning "websites", here at WA, I'm sure you'll get your answer.

I sincerely hope this has helped someone out, as when I joined I knew nothing about nothing concerning online marketing, and even much less on website development and design. Thanks to WA, I've come a long way...

That's all for now folks

Later Gators

My dad always said, "The more you put in, the more you take out." I think that's very true for the WA learning platform, and appreciate your reminder.

So true Helen :)
Have a great day

I read these very blogs earlier, Joseph and felt the same. Empowerment is key and that's what the 'Question' feature is for. WA is overwhelming at first and the learning curve is huge, especially to someone with little or no computer knowledge. Sometimes we even make big, innocent mistakes :-) but that's part of the learning. Upfront and honest post that will help many if they want it. Blessings, Heather

Hey Sis, your comments always rest easy on my soul. Keep warm out there.
Sending you Love and Light

Well said Joseph, I was one of those people you describe and have only just asked my first question in three months at WA.
It wasn't because I knew everything, actually the opposite is true with regards to myself and I realized I have a deep fear of feeling stupid and making a fool of myself if what I'm asking is so obvious!
Now that I understand what that fear is and how silly it really is (as we all have to start somewhere) I'm feeling liberated from my feeling sorry for myself and looking forward to progressing through the course and learning lots more.

And by the way your spot on with regard to the help here at WA, I asked my question and in 20 mins my answer came back.

Thanks Joseph and all the best

Great stuff Tommy, Thanks a lot for stopping in
Hope you're having a great start to your week

Fab post! I'm brand new to WA and, even though I've been working for the last 10 years as a writer, helping my clients earn money from their sites with my content, I know I'm going to be hitting a few roadblocks in this new and slightly terrifying adventure.

And, I have to admit that occasionally I spend a few minutes wallowing in self pity! Haha. But I'm determined to make this a success. And yes, I'll be asking a LOT of questions as I learn. :)

Hi Katy
Just finished my first novel, I could probably take some tips from you. :)
Thanks for taking the time
Joseph

Thanks for sharing Joseph

Maybe I can help here: why that person thought that WA was an MLM concept?! If you think about it lots of members here made their first web sites about making money here at WA trying to attract more people to sign up. And lots of them make money on that.

True but there are still big differences between an MLM and a training and web hosting service such as WA that also runs an affiliate programme.

When I first came to WA a few years ago Anita, I challenged WA's integrity left, right and center.I had posts deleted every other day. I constantly crossed lines that looking back on, I shouldn't have. I exasperated both Kyle and Carson for a year before they finally shut me down. Sheesh, I don't think I would have had so much patience.
A lot has changed since, after a public apology, they graciously reinstated me.

I want to apologize for deleting a few comments here this morning, not my habit. However I had to leave for a refugee camp, as I had promised a family there, to come and do some carpentry work so as to secure and winterize their tarped abode.

Your comment was among the first few, and because I had to leave, I couldn't risk my post being hijacked and turned into a debate about the intent and ethics of WA. I'm simply not interested.

In my opinion, Kyle and Carson have created a template for future online ethical business, and with what I've learned here, I will able to set up classes for refugees, offering them more options to feed their families.
I understand you stepped in to help, and no reflection on you.

However, under no circumstance will I allow anyone to use my post to harm WA's reputation. not on my post. I'm open to debate, however I couldn't be here to oversee the direction my post would take.

Again I apologize for having to delete certain comments, and will be bringing the issue to Kyle and Carson's attention.
Please stay in touch :)
Joseph

Hi Joseph, don't worry about me, I am good with everything you decide. After all this is your post and your space and you are the one who decides. I respect that. I have never thought anything negative about WA, otherwise I wouldn't have been still here. I admire your efforts and your intentions. My country has been accepting so many refugees and I am proud of that. At one point some years ago we were the refugees in our own country,so we know from experience how it feels to lose everything. God bless you!

I thought about it all day, i was upset at having to delete posts, so not my style.
Thank you bunches for your kind understanding, very appreciated Anita :)

I hear you Marie, thanks for chiming in, much appreciated
Joseph

Asking for pity will get us nowhere. Moving on and keep a positive outlook in life will surely bring us somewhere :-)

Good post Joseph

Hey Dominic, sorry for my late reply, I was really busy today.
You hit the nail on the head my Friend, thanks so much for taking the time
Have a great upcoming week
