This Title Has Been Around A Long While

Yes this qoutation was originally made very popular by the famous Dr Robert H. Schuller of the then Crystal Cathedral of Garden Grove, California. In case you have not heard of the name, he was a Pastor who preached and practiced the power of possibility thinking. He was a disciple of the equally famous preacher and original teacher of possibility thinking Dr. Vincent Peale. I used to watch Dr. Schuller on television until I moved to Southern California and had the front seat at his huge cathedral that was all glass! His famous qoutes including the above title has been permanently emblazoned in my heart and mind. I am tougher because of his shared beliefs!

It is one very powerful statement that has reververated in many places for all these decades and has influenced millions of lives around the world. It inspired me when I was down. It encouraged me when things were going against me. It helped me surmount endless kinds of challenges ! It did teach me how to toughen up my mind! It can toughen up even the weakest of the heart in us! The weight lifter below has to know and believe he can lift all this weight or else he will fail. The power of the mind is working with his muscles.

The Power Of The Mind

Forget about physical power or big muscular arms! You could have the biggest muscular body around but try matching such with a weak mind! The muscles, all of it become useless! But take a regular guy in size, fit him with a strong mind and then you have a truly strong person or personality!

Persistent folks are the kinds who are tough minded. Persistent people look at the destination more than the rough rides. Mental toughness comes from years of experiences and proper responses to the challenges in life. The picture below depicts a person who without any doubt has gone through years of training both mentally and physically.

According To Your Faith Or Belief Be It Unto You!

Think scared and you become a scared person. Think brave thoughts and you become a courageous person. You are who you think you are! And yet we adults are still scared of many things. We have our own special fears! Why!? Sometimes it is hard to imagine a person who is scared stiff of flying in an airplane when you yourself feel very comfortable doing it.

And why are a lot of folks fearful of ugly looking spiders. My friends and I used to have spider fights where we catch these ugly bugs and let them duke it out in the dust! It was fun ! For others it is horrifying!

Yep, according to what you have told yourself all these years, be it unto you!

Wealthy Affiliate And Tough People

Here at Wealthy Affiliate we can look at ourselves and consider members to be our fellow warriors who have grown tough as we battled it out with fear of not keeping up with the lessons, fear of failure, fear of wasting precious money, fear of spending all this time and not making it. The fear of defeat for many of us could be very real. But we persist! It is an exercise in mental toughness. We are still here. We have not succumbed to our fears. We are tougher. Indeed tough times never last but tough people like us do!

And That Folks Is All There Is From The Rock In The Tropics!

Two visits to the ER due to massive head aches and numb fingers later, this tough old guy is hanging in there. My niece who is an Endo Specialist at one of the newest hospitals assured me I am experiencing an onset of neuropathy. All vitals are normal. Blood tests normal. Got two more months to duke it out with what the Rock throws at me.

Hi Joe

Somebody very dear in my life and for whom I hold A LOT of respect, told me that he once was a guest at Dr Norman Vincent Peale's church when visiting the USA.

Apparently Dr Peale was late in starting the service and he apologized, saying that somebody was telling him about all their problems. Upon which he apparently looked to the back of the room, called upon one of his helpers and asked the guy to organize enough busses to transport all of them, since he (Dr Peale) wanted to take them to a very special place, where the people have no problems.

He (my mentor) said he sat there, quickly trying to count how many people there would be and approximately how many busses would be needed, all while wondering whether it was just a joke, or what.

He said but not too long, they heard busses arriving and Dr Peale summoned them to get on the busses and there they went.

To their surprise, the busses stopped at a cemetery and there the message was delivered, that he said he NEVER will forget, namely:
• The only people who don't have problems, are those "living" in the cemetery.
• So unless you've got your "home" there, don't complain when you've got problems.
• Problems are part of being alive, just like breathing is.
• Just get on with life.
• Handle and sort out your problems without complaining about them.
• Be grateful that you are alive.

He said he will NEVER in his life forget that message and that his trip to the USA was worth it, just for that.

Wishing you all of the very best, Joe!

Hello there Sharlee!
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I cracked up laughing! : ) Indeed we could spend so much time wondering about or worrying about problems.

'Just get on with life' is spot on!

Indeed the only folks who are without problems are all 'six feet under'.

Cheers!

Amen Kyle Ann! Thank you so much! I am gaining ground against the odds lined up against me. This morning and yesterday morning I was on my rooftop with my wife for a total of about 2.5 hours walking, stretching. Ha ha ha.

The sun has been out 95 percent of the time lately. No rains!

The Lord is great!

Joe

Great post, and I agree with all of this! I love the part about fear. I love this quote by Joseph Campbell:

"The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure that you seek."

Stay well!
