The Rock, The Island And The Old Super Typhoons!

The island is positioned right smack in the middle of the Super Typhoon Alley facing the Pacific. As most super typhoons boil out of the wide Pacific Ocean and head out westward to hit its favorite targets, this Island usually gets hit 90 times out of a possible 100!

A lot of weird things have been afoot lately however. First, the super typhoons seem to 'avoid' the island. Around the year 2003 a massive SuperTyphoon formed several hundred miles east of us, gathered strength and wind speed, then headed straight for the Rock! Folks scrambled to prepare for the worst!

Then the massive storm did something very strange! First it made a 90 degree turn to the south! The islanders breathed a great sigh of relief only to be informed several hours later that it had changed directions one more time and was back to being headed west...straight for the island! And it was getting dangerously closer that folks could actually feel the winds hammering at many things all around. Trees were getting knocked down. Roofs were starting to fly off the smaller and poorly constructed structures.

But before it could do its worst, for some very weird reason, the storm did another 90 degree turn, this time towards the north and steadily kept that direction missing our island for a sure total devastation by only several hours. Had that westward direction continued for several more hours, we would have seen another one of those devastating typhoon visits that we get once every 5 to 7 years!

Now Let Me Tell You What Some Christians On The Island Did!

Now this is not a story about religion. This is what happened. A group of Christians braved the crashing waves and went to the island's small pier facing the Pacific where the storm is coming from. Led by the Pastor who goes all over the island to spread the Gospel, they all went down on their knees and prayed hard begging God for His intervention. This is when the storm did several 90-degree turns eventually sparing the island and its people! I grew up witnessing typhoons on the island and never seen one do 90-degree turns three times!

Whether we believe in a God or a Creator or not, it is sometimes hard to ignore when things like these happen. I was not on the island when the above happened. I was in Huntington Beach California with yet another group of Christians praying hard for the islanders. We were all so thrilled that day to see in a matter of many hours the typhoon eventually changed its direction back into the Pacific! But our brave Pastor Mandy and his followers bravely went on the pier that was being heavily hit by massive waves, went on their knees and prayed. Then the storm heeled their prayers! Or was that simply coincidence!?

For Many Years Now No Super Typhoons!

It is not that we miss those massively destructive storms! Folks are simply wondering what could be happening. Why are the big storms no longer hitting the Rock as often as they did before? The last big Super Typhoon to hit the Rock was before 2008 and that is not the norm. What factors create and influence typhoons? Could typhoons being physical things be influenced by non-physical things like prayers which are spiritual?

But The Heavy Rains Keep Coming!

No super typhoons but the heavy rains that could last days on end are now the norm. The land that stretches for several miles north of our house to the hills used to be open fields. Now they are full of trees, bushes, tons of vines...a jungle... a rainforest! And bugs!

The Bugs Are In Greater Numbers!

I have spent many long hours doing battle with ants of different colors and mosquitoes since we got here. The whole house is concrete, doors and windows have screens but for some reason the bugs still get in and 'bug' the heck out of us. My ever watchful wife discovered the secret passage of the mosquitoes! Would you believe they are coming in through the sewer pipes of our shower drains that connect to the huge culver pipes out on the street! This is now a horror story for sure!

Bugs Against Humans, The Bugs Lose!

Man shall have dominion over every living thing on earth and this includes the pesky bugs! And so we have poured chlorine and detergent into the drain! Big change, the bugs are retreating! But everytime I think about it, I feel that the demons, the unseen bad spirits of this world are out there sending these critters into my house trying to disrupt what we are establishing here in our community.

Pastor Mandy His Warriors And Our House On The Rock!

The year was 2008. My house building got started two years before. I ran into Pastor Mandy and he was wondering why I built a big house on the island when I lived in the United States. I told him I started with a blueprint of a small house and somehow when the concrete got poured, a bigger house came up! Make a long story short Pastor Mandy offered to hold Bible studies in our house. That Bible study has been going on since then every Sunday with no fail!

A Second Friend Asking To Use My House For Another Bible Study Group!

Just about two weeks ago a lady friend out of high school who now lives in Sweden asked to see if she and her husband could rent one of the rooms and hold weekly Bible studies! They plan to do what my wife and I are doing, visit the island 3-5 months at a time each year and participate in a Christian mission.

Now, two Bible studies in one house on the Rock is unheard of and the devil is pissed! That explains the bugs, mosquitoes and some other weird stuff! But pissed devils and all, God is the most powerful spirit Being there is so no worries! We can handle the bugs, He will handle the bad unseen critters!

And That's All Folks! From The Beautiful Rock In The Tropics!

It is now about 40 minutes before midnight. I need to hurry and sleep before midnight before the unseen enemies start their ware. You know...many things happen at midnight and beyond! Even our Western horror stories tell us so!
