Instead of referring someone to a Google Drive or Mega file, I would rather my download link initiate a download automatically, without using an external website.

How wo

Great question! And wonderful question guys. That was the answer I need answer for.

I didn't realise it was as easy as adding a file to your media library, then simply copying the link that is associated with that file. It couldn't be more simple :)

Ey there Josh... all I did was to upload an image of the downloadable file to my media library and into the page where you want the downloadable file. Then upload the actual file that you want downloadable into your media library and attach it's link to the image on the page and that's it... piece of cake!!!

Sure was! I thought that it was some long-winded process. It wasn't :)

That's a better way than mine!

Hi, Randy.

Would you be willing to make a post or training on this? Something understandable to those such as myself, who don't even know how to get an image of their downloadable file?

I read a more recent post of yours, in which you used the term: "ranspankers" to describe certain of those aiming for ambassadorship. (It's an apt term and a hilarious one.)

I've searched WA for training/posts on how to publish downloadable files to our WordPress sites. Except for a few brief mentions, it seems to be a topic the rankspankers (and others) have overlooked.

On my site, I'd like to have one page with multiple downloadable files on it, which a visitor could download after entering his/her name and email address. But, I haven't a clue how to do that or if it's even possible.

Sharon

Ya' know Sharon, I've never even thought about or considered doing any training here. But, I'll take another look at the context of that post if I can find it and maybe give it a shot.

If i do, I'll put it on my YT channel and send ya' the link! Seems to me like it was a real easy process. I'll go take a look at my downloadable file on my site and try and duplicate it on a test site and then go from there.

Making the page and link would be one process and then with you email list/auto responder you would just create an email that goes back to them that includes a link to your page with the downloadable link on it.

You could always just password protect the page with the downloadable link and then the email going out to the responders could have the link to the page and the password for it if you want to make sure that the general public never accesses you page with the file on it.

Anyway my friend, I'll go start checking things out and PM you with what I figure out!!!

Alrighty my friend, I just worked it all out and will cut a vid on it and shoot ya' the link in a PM.

Gotta warn ya' though, I'm not too good at videos yet and still say "uhhh" a lot...LOL!!!

May take a while to get the perfect cut but I'll get busy on it after a few quickies that I have to take care of!

...
It all sounds wonderful. I'm very excited! Thanks for considering my request!

...
YES!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, friend!

Don't worry about "uhhh"s - I've never made a video. I'd be so nervous, I doubt I could say anything half so coherent, lol.

I'll anxiously await your PM/link and I'll subscribe to your YT channel, too!

Total pleasure on this end of it, Sharon... (-:

Well, it wasn't the perfect cut but I will redo it in the future and add the intro and exit when I get a chance.

Thank you so much for subscribing... you're #1 and appropriately so!!!

This YT channel was set up to coincide with my BootCamp site and I got sidetracked as usual and haven't been able to get very active with it yet...
... But, I did get my main affiliate site rebuilt to a great extent and when I'm finished with the last few things on it I'll be able to get back to the BootCamp thing!

Thank you so much for this little push. I really appreciate it... (-;

I'm #1! I noticed that, but didn't want to brag. :-D

The video you made was wonderful - so easy to understand and take action on!

Not only did I subscribe to your channel, I "liked" the vid, made a comment and clicked to be alerted when you add new content. I'm that impressed.

Always happy to give a little push when needed. Keep up the great work!

:-D Thanks, Randy!

Thank you again, Sharon. I really do appreciate the little "push". I'd kinda forgotten how much I enjoy dinking around with stuff like that.

If I can just get a handle on polishing off my main site I could get back to it.

I had started a BootCamp site a few years ago called nfobitz.com and had around 5 training videos on the corresponding YouTube channel but dumped everything when I scraped NfoBitz.

I do remember how much fun I had making the vids though. Reckon I just gotta get busy, ey?

Thankin' ya' again my friend,

Randy

Well, that was easier than I thought :)

If you don't want to link to an external source, then you'll need to get the file uploaded to your web server. You can do that with FTP. Search for that at the top of WA. There are tutorials how to do that. Create a directory on your web server called "downloads" or something. Put your files there.

But I don't think you can force files to download. Whether your reader downloads the file or views it in their browser depends on the type of file you're linking to and how the reader has their browser configured. For example.

I use Mac Safari for my browser. If I click a link to PDF I view it in Safari. If I want to keep a copy of the PDF I have to save it. But I could configure my settings to download PDFs rather than view.

Thanks, I'll have a look later on. The type of file I wish to upload is a MS Excel document

I am writing an article on matched betting, and I would like to, if possible, add a calculator to my article instead of referring my readers to another website.

Here is

Joshy - have you seen this site?
http://checkbestodds.com/widgets

OMG this is incredibly helpful, thankyou!!!!

:-))
Glad you like it.

I already have an arbitrage calculator on my spreadsheet, however this means I can have one on my site too, which is great. It still isn't the exact thing I was after though, as I am after a matched betting calculator (backing and laying), but this surely does help!!

:-))
I don't actually know what you want - I googled
'embed matched betting calculator in website,' up came that page which looked like maybe you make what you want.

http://www.learnmatchedbetting.com/matched-betting-calculator/

Check what this guy did - clicked on Open Matched betting Calculator.

Yeah, I've seen this site before. His calculator is the exact type of thing I am after. As mentioned, I have all of the maths worked out, I just need to be able to embed it into my site somehow...

Here is another site that does exactly the type of thing I am trying to do

http://matchedbettingblog.com/matched-betting-calculator/

You'd need to know how to code javascript. I did it on a few of my posts. I can give you the code I used, if you'd like to manipulate it to suit your needs. The other thing is, javascript doesn't work well in posts/pages. You might need to download a plugin that'll let you code your javascript into it, then use a shortcode to put it into the post/page.

I use a theme called Avada that has a built-in javascript element. Prior to that, I used a plugin, like the one I mentioned above. If you're going to tackle javascript, I can look up the plugin for you.

Here's an example of a calculator I added to my website: http://backboneamerica.com/break-even-analysis-formula-online-calculator

Thanks LReene, I don't know JavaScript, but I am a fast learner when it comes to things like that, I've recently learnt how to (successfully) wrap my head around some complicated VBA code in excel, I'm sure that javascript will be something I'll be able to grasp.

I have a feeling this calculator will not be the easiest thing in the world to create, but I will get round to looking into what I can do later on tonight.

Cheers!

It's easier to create than you think. I have minimal programming experience. I took someone's code and modified it to fit my needs.

Hey Josh,

I just Google searched "add a calculator to wp" and there all sorts of options, depending on what it is you want the calculator for.

Give the search a try and then refine the search if that doesn't work.

Trish

Thanks Trish. I had tried a few google searches, but my search criteria was a bit vague. Thanks!

http://www.embedcalculator.com/

Cheers bud

After checking the link, that isn't the type of calculator I was after. Check the link in my post to get an idea of what I am after

Then.... find one you like (that you're allowed to use) and embed it in an iframe?

I'm not actually after a straight calculator as such, but rather, I'm after a "calculations" embedder i.e. Type in value X into box 1, type in value Y into box 2, click "calculate" and it works its magic, with a set of specific calculations running in the background.

Not sure if I explained that well..

You could always build exactly what you want in an Excel spreadsheet and then insert it onto your page... even make it downloadable... LOL!

... you mean so that the excel spreadsheet is editable within the post itself?

I haven't worked within Excel for several years but I'm pretty sure there's a way to protect the cells from being edited so that your readers can use the calculator portion of the function but not be able to edit it after downloading.

I've downloaded non-editable spreadsheets before and then just copied them over into my own fresh spread and then changed mine into editable.

Pretty sure you can make yours usable but non-editable!

Yes you can - 'cos I done it once upon a time.
But I don't remember how anymore.

Oh, I know how to protect the spreadsheet, that isn't what I meant. I have a spreadsheet for people to download, but I would also like the calculations that occur within the sheet to also be worked out from within the page itself, so that my readers do not have to download the sheet!

Boy can I relate...LOL!

My niche is making money online, and one of my main pages will be on matched betting. The article itself will be fairly extensive, and I'm just getting round to researching it

Hi Joshy, sorry, I have no experience of this. Irv.

3k words is fine, but it doesn't have to be that much. 43 is a lot, but it's a list style post, so you can't help it. I just wouldn't count on ranking that page, and just make sure to direct traffic from other pages on your site that don't have affiliate links, to this central "sign up" page.

Cheers Natahniell. I don't intend to write 3k words just for the sake of it; I genuinely do think that this article is so in depth that it could turn out to be 3k. There is a huge amount to cover, including personal experience, as I will be trying it myself.

I have had the idea to create a Google spreadsheet to host all my gambling links. What do you think?

So long as an individual post cannot harm a site overall, then I may consider having my links on the one page.

I would just have the links on the page - a separate page might hurt conversions. Then again, it would solve the problem of having tons of affiliate links on one page, and though it would get fewer clicks, conversion rate might be higher.

It'll be something you need to test once you have more traffic. To begin, I'd just go simpler and get the links on the page. Some pages loaded with affiliate links DO rank e.g. http://top10supplements.com/best-casein-protein-powders-on-the-market/ (searched "best casein protein powder")

And NO, and individual page will not harm your entire site.

After having done an amount of research into matched betting, I have realised now I have several options available to me. i COULD internally link each gambling site to a unique page, which is what savethestudent do.

I could also just have a few affiliate links to the most commercial gambling sites.

Oddsmonkey.com is a site which claims to be able to find enough free bets on a daily basis for you to earn over £1000 a month, for a £15 pm membership. I wish to try them out for the sole purpose of reviewing them. If they turn out to be the real-deal, then they also have an affiliate program which I could monetize from.

So I have my options.

Matched betting is a vast area. One thing is for sure though; it is a rare and legit way to make a LOT of money in a very short space of time.

My guess would to be to try to write 3000+ words, as so that Google knows that it is not just an advert page?

You're on the right track. Create your link page. Then write articles with no links except the internal ones that lead to that link page. Internal links are good anyway.

So have a link page with the affiliate links on my site? I was thinking about an external site (Pastebin) to host my affiliate links, as to not harm my website

Yea. I was discussing this with Loes. She has a link heavy page that is ranked very well. She keeps a close eye on it though. But if the page is penalized it doesn't mean your posts will be.

That's great to know. This is a tricky one for me...

This is the top-ranked page for "make money online" (in the UK), and within their page they have an affiliate link heavy page (although the site has a LOT of authority in Google)

http://www.savethestudent.org/make-money/what-is-matched-betting.html

43 affiliate links. And that's just for the gambling sites!

Sounds like a plan Josh!

Cheers Dreamer. You'd reckon to go with the Pastebin idea then?

Sounds like either way you go Google will see it as an advertising page and hit your website hard. I don't have much experience in this, but a friend of mine did the same thing and he was devastated once he got the results back from Google. Just an observation on my end from a friends past experience.

Hope that helps.

Paul

Cheers Paul. It's a toughy for sure

In order to cash out the cash credits that we amass via referrals, we need to maintain a 5% premium member conversion rate.

Does this also include the referrals that do

Hi Joshy, sorry I cannot help here. irv.

Not to worry Irv

Conversion to premium is conversion to premium, regardless of whether or not they have their profile filled out.

Cheers Nathaniell.

My observation is this: there are roughly 650,000 members in WA, of which approximately 30,000 of them complete their profile, let alone go premium.

So that's 4.6% members complete their account setup

It will be tricky to maintain a 5% conversion rate with those stats

DO YOU MEAN 30,000 OF THEM DO NOT COMPLETE THEIR PROFILE?

No, I mean 620,000 do not complete their profile. When someone first joins, at present they get ranked somewhere around 650,000.

Once they complete their profile, they then get ranked to roughly 30,000, which tells me that anyone ranked lower than 30,000 (approx) has not completed their profile!

I'm not sure where those numbers are from but I'm converting at like 13% overall and some folks do higher than that, so more than 5% is definitely possible.

That's cool, I guess the reason I'm getting a low conversion rate is because I started a conversation on a Facebook ad to do with scratchcards, and it triggered an opening for me to promote WA, so I posted my affiliate link. That was nearly 2 weeks ago, and I'm still getting referrals from it, I had 2 last night; however, they are signing up, and then not doing anything.

I have made 10 referrals that way, of which only 1 has completed their account profile. I guess it's just not my target audience! Lesson learned

Cheers ;-))

Tania and Al

Of course, I may be wrong, but every time I see someone who has completed their profile, they are never lower than approx 30,000.

I would love to be proven wrong. I am a very observational person, and I do tend to think into things a little too deeply.

I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THE SAME....IF THERE ARE OVER 500,000 MEMBERS WHY DO YOU NEVER SEE A NEWBIE WITH SAY 250,500 RANKING :-))

GOOD POINT.....XOXOXOX CHEERS HONEY XOXOX

My friend at work joined up, completed his profile, then did nothing else whatsoever. The next day he was ranked at 25,000.

I now have 17 referrals, and only 3 account setups, 2 of which are friends at work.
So that's 15 organic referrals, and only 1 has complete their profile. Bummer!

SO THEY DIDNT EVEN SIGN UP FOR THE 7 DAYS? IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING?
DO YOU HAVE ANY WAY TO CONTACT THEM TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY THOUGHT?
OXOXOXO
REAL BUMMER BUT 17 REFERRAL IS GREAT SEEING HOW WE ARE FLEDGLINGS XOXOXO

They are included, to my understanding.

Cheers onmy!

Cheers ;-))

For the last few days now, I have noticed that I have not been receiving notifications for some (but not all) notifications for topics that I am a part of.

For example,

Hi Joshy, I have not any experience of it. Irv.

I had the same thing at the end of last week Joshy - it does seem to happen now and again :)

Cool, so it's not just me then :)

hope you got it sorted honey :-))

That last line is too funny Josh. You must have gremlins hiding in your computer. First they snatched your pic now your messages!

Haha lol. Funny thing, I had the notification for your reply. It seems to be sporadic. I've just gone back through all of my blogs, and there half a dozen conversations that I'd missed out on. Bummer

I seem to have that problem with Carson's post I get them a day or two later lol. I have no clue.

Lol. Damn your notifications showing; it's contradictive to my question :P

The one time I DON'T want my notifications to work properly!!

On a side note, I may be in the top 200 when I wake up in the morning :)

Awesome news buddy! Go get'em!

I love your conversation.
What about the settings for the notifications? Sometimes things change by themselves, yes, the gremlins...

They are sneaky little devils Heidi!
