When You Win But You Are Still Down On The Deal!

The other day I did something I don't do very often - I bought a lottery ticket! This was for the Euromillions not just the UK Lotto. It is estimated that between 80 and 100 million people buy a ticket each week - it costs £2.50 a ticket. That's about $3.25 or 2.85EUR

As I say we rarely buy one as the odds are so stacked against you, but I just had a whim.

I then forgot about the ticket until a couple of days afterwards. When I checked the numbers, I found that we had matched 2 numbers and therefore had won some money.

Drumroll please.....

The huge amount of £2.10 !!

This made me question how on earth is it seen as a good thing to win but yet come out of it having lost money on the deal? You pay £2.50 and then win the lowest prize which is less than the ticket price!

Seems rather an odd system if you ask me - especially when you think how many people play it each week.

So at 90 million people x £2.50 = £225,000,000

The total amount of prize money paid out was £3.6million

So, anyway, after I finished shaking my head I realised that the title of this blog can be likened to online marketing using paid strategies if you are not careful.

When running PPC campaigns it is vital that you keep tabs of what you are spending and what you are making back as a result. Otherwise you can end up spending a kings ransom with little to show for it.

So, if you ARE running paid ads, please make sure you have all your numbers covered.
