It's Official, I Hate Wordpress Gutenberg
Yup, it's official - I HATE the new Wordpress update, Gutenberg!
I finally got to take it for a spin today - been busy doing other stuff since it came out the other day.
OMG! It is horrendous. Whoever decided that was a good idea needs sacking. I seriously believe that this will drive people away from Wordpress in droves.
I, for one, will definitely be uploading the Classic Editor plugin. Whatever happened to the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Having to click so many times to get what you want is seriously annoying. Maybe I am just averse to change, who knows!!
But at this moment in time, I am not a fan!
What do you all think, now you have had a play with it?

I have taken the advice of Peter @Hanley and `have just written a post using all the possible blocks and elements.
There are only 2 things that I like over the Classic Editor and those are the ability to easily add a picture gallery and write on the pictures as well, and the ability to add columns.
BUT..
The extra clicks you have to make to achieve just the basics are a real time suck when you can simply type and add media to your hearts content in the Classic Editor.
I understand their desire to bring the editor uptodate alongside other paid editors and page builders but I will definitely be going back to the Classic Editor for now. Far easier!

I've been reading comments about WordPress 5.0 and have not made the change yet. I think we have until 2020 before we're forced to update (or so I heard).
I'm in no rush to update.

As you know, I won't be using it, because I have Thrive Themes and so use their editor which is much better in my humble opinion : 0
That said, I did take Gutenberg for a trial, when it first came out and would agree with you in that it is not the BEST to use, so I uninstalled it.
What is interesting is that, they must have forseen people wouldn't like it, because they kept the classic editor alongside it and still have the editor along side, which suggests, they know it may prove unpopular
Hi Dave, As you know, I am probably soon to be joining you in the realms of Thrive Themes. I also think that many others will follow if WP decide to stick with the new update.
It is pretty grotty. Once I knew t was coming in and had tried it, it was a case of using either that or looking for an alternative... I'm glad I did, because it will put people off using WP, especially newbies
Its a way different experience and far better in my opinion than Elementor, which I think is harder to master than Gutenberg
I do not like it. I tried the plugin before it was released as a
Wordpress update, I was not a fan of it so was dreading the release of it. Thankful that they made the plugin for the classic editor.
Oh boy! I haven't gotten there - and don't know if I want to! Will be looking at the training shared by MichalB below before I even think about it.

It's all ok Louise. Once the Classic Editor is installed it will be business as usual. Like's too short to get down about it and it is Christmas!!
I only looked at the Gutenberg once. I did not dare to play with it :)
I am OK with the Classic Editor as well and I strongly hope that it will be here for quite some time.

Totally agree...they made everything so much more complex and unnecessary. The classic editor is so simple and functional that I cannot get it why they had to make so many fundamental changes that will drive a lot of people crazy. Totally totally worthless.
I think you have hit the nail on the head with the word 'unnecessary'. None of it was necessary as far as I can see. If they had added lots of new features I could understand it.
Not for me too. So stressful to take up another learning curve while struggling to speed up my content creation.
In fact not only the learning curve. Now I have one page builder plugin that's not compatible with Gutenberg... real headache. Been using this page builder to write almost all my reviews.
Add me into this line of thinking as well.
I'm still struggling to digest everything else I've learned and try to implement it.
It feels as though dealing the whole WP upgrade would be like taking a huge detour right now.
I have been very reluctant to upgrade waiting not playing right now from the Youtube videos I have watched it certainly is a big changed so hanging tight
Unfortunately I was forced into seeing what all the fuss was about as some of our websites update automatically! So, that is another job to do - uploading the Classic Editor plugin and taking them back to what we know.

I tried Gutenberg during their trial phase and it messed up my website. Needless to say, I stayed away from it as much as i can since then. However, I have received advice from an experienced developer that "Running an old version of WP eventually becomes a security concern, so I wouldn’t put off the update for months and months on end just to avoid Gutenberg." Though I know there's the classic editor plugin, generally I try not to include more technical things to run if necessary. If I really can't conquer Gutenberg, I'll have to consider that.
Thanks for your comment Cathy. I know what you mean about the possibility of security concerns. Will have to keep an eye on that as time goes on.
