We learned something the other day which we never knew before. And it came from a highly reputable source when it comes to video optimisation.

So, imagine the scene...

You have just made a new video for your business and you are looking to upload it to Youtube.

You need a thumbnail image, right?

So, like a good online marketer, you don't just put up an image or worse still use one of the recommended slides from your video that Youtube suggests! You know that you need to create one that will stand out in the search results and get clicks.

So, you turn to Canva or whichever picture editor you use. As part of your thumbnail you decide to use a stock photo which you picked up from Pixabay or somewhere like that.

Here is where Googles sneaky developers come in.

They have a machine that can see all the elements of your thuimbnail and can read the file name of the image you used to make your thumbnail - even though your thumbnail image is a different file name!!

Crazy right?

So, you have just made a banging looking thumbnail for your diet website but you used an image that had the filename "girl" - this is real by the way, I did a search on Pixabay!

Googles machine can now read the elements of your thumbnail and sees an image just named "girl" within your thumbnail. It now sees your video as not entirely relevant to the diet keyword that you were targetting.

Remember, this is for Video thumbnails not just images on your website

Hope you found that useful?

Hey Jon,
Thanks for sharing. That's crazy!!!

Tried and True

Remember to update the meta data, you can update the file info in Photoshop under the file tab.
Google maybe looking at the raw data and considering the entire creation and edit history, that would be different.

That makes sense, thanks for sharing.

VEry useful

Thanks for sharing it seems no matter how good you do there is still a hurdle. Good luck,

⭐️ .. Very helpful blog post today -- thanks kindly for sharing this about images ..... good to know ... 😊

When you upload the picture to Wordpress you can edit the name of the picture. Like this: keyword-that-you-want

so it's just a simple matter of deleting the exif information of the image. Not entirely that hard to do, if I remember correctly.

This is one of the aspects of SEO. The alt tag and name of the image file should be changed to be relevant to your keyword.

Typically, I will take my own image and name it before I upload it to the website. I even store the images on my computer in a file folder related to the website. This way, if anything happens to the site, I have the images organized so that I can rebuild with minimum work involved.

'like' your excellent advice & helpful tips .... thank you! .... 😊
