I've tried to build several websites using several different themes, but I can never get the sites to look anything like the example (where you decide which theme to select). A

Hey,

Thank you for this question. I believe the answer is about buying the theme itself; most websites give you a small taste of what their themes offer. However, some themes such as Astra gives you a plugin for more control on your theme!

I think you might be right!

I've had the best luck choosing themes in which the "Demo" site looks as close to the example as possible. This ensures that some of the style I liked in the example remains, but I would like to know how to do more with the simpler sites too!

Yes, and the problem I am facing now is the website speed problems as well as the ability to fix some minor stuff within the website, sadly all of that needs to be a premium to be done.

Hi - when you select a theme, in effect, it is just showing you what it could look like once you have added your own content and images, etc. Really, all you get is just a "skeleton".

If you go to Appearance and Customize, it will show you which aspects of your chosen theme can be changed relatively simply, without coding. Take a look at Jay's webinar for further ideas.

Thank you! I will check this out.
