Having done this very same thing myself, here's video instructions: Move Post or Page From One Website to Another DO remember to add a redirect from the site you are removing the content from, to reflect the NEW URL in your other website, in order to retain your rank in SERPs for the site you are removing the content from.
The redirect plugin that I use is shown in the screen print below.

You better believe it would hurt your rank to simply delete 10 posts at one time John.
Been there... done that.
Years ago, my local business dropped off Google page 1 from deleting about 10 posts that I deemed no longer worth keeping.
Took me a week to figure out what the heck happened.
Here's what I learned...
It is better to UPDATE those old posts than to simply delete them.
Those you have NO way of updating, you need to provide a redirect link to relevant content.
Why... you ask?
Turns out that Google doesn't like their SERPs to look unattended.
When you delete a large number of posts all at once, that gives their SERPs several broken links, making it look though Google is not as reliable.
That makes Google very cross, thus their script will drop your site from the SERPs until you fix the issues... or enough time goes by (LOTS of it!) and you request your site be indexed again.

Unless they're highly-ranking posts, it'll almost certainly make no negative difference. If they are low ranking, you might consider re-writing them instead.

It depends upon the interlinking of your website posts and pages. Do these pages leave a gap in content?
What about backlinks? Are here any valuable ones?
Is there any traffic depending upon them?

I used to rank good on Google all the time before (atleast low hanging fruit keywords), that changed at early 2020 and now I do not even rank on Google for keywords with ZERO c
Did you stop your content engine or slow it down? What can happen is if people get fatigued, or they get hit with a Google update, the natural reaction is to "stop" doing what they were doing.
But this leads to further dilution of their rankings...if you are not actively creating content, you will lose authority in Google in particular.
So that could be the case here John, but without knowing the exact history of your website and the type of content you have been publishing on it, the quality, the thoroughness, and the style of the headlines you have be writing, then that could be an issues have arisen.
If that happens, I have been in health problems sometimes and that have had a big effect on my work, is it very difficult to come back with the site?
I am in a period like that and it is horrible to see all performances like throwing water out of a box.

John, I had an ecommerce site and was on the first page of google for years - until they made an algorithm change. It was not a blog site. I never fully understood exactly what the problem was, but it got worse and worse, and after a few years of business decline I closed the site down.
My question is, what have you been doing since 2020? Do you suspect anything? Have you looked at searches for which you were doing well, but not any more, and what might have changed - like increased competition?
Finally, what about your natural linking - from other sites? Do you have much? That is insurance against google updates to the algorithm.

Good reply Jay. What I would ad John is that you need to make sure your put your analytics code on to the new themes so it tracks it, because changing the theme doesn't automatically update the analytics code How to Add HTML Code to The Head Section of Your Blog
create a staging site and compare them...
make sure you test the speed and web core vitals

Hi John. Thomas has a point, but just make sure (in any theme you install and activate) that you do not tell it to import any templates, as that will add mayhem to your setup. That'll cause you to have to go into the post and page editor and delete all the pages and posts it imported. It won't overwrite your pages and posts, but you will have two copies of each, one being examples, and one set being your originals. Delete the extras. Then you might have to re-insert them into the menu lineup again. Just don't import and templates if it asks.
I'm not the expert like Thomas with the rankings part, but one thing is for sure, Google will search your main web address for all it's pages and posts, re-indexing them once found.
Also, if you plan on moving your website to another web address, be sure to NOT delete your old website from WA for at least 30 days while Google re-links everything from the old to the new. Hope this helped.

It can impact rankings. Some themes are coded better than other themes. With page caching technology, such as SiteSpeed, I’m not sure how much of a difference the theme coding makes from a speed perspective
From an SEO perspective, different themes can potentially use header tags differently. Most themes will make a post or page title a H1, if a theme you chose made it an H2 tag instead it might affect your rankings.
Also, Google has been doing mobile first search results for a long time. If the new theme isn’t mobile responsive or has a worse implementation than the old theme, then this would probably impact your rankings as well.
If you want to change, then I would do it. Maybe just make a list of changes you make and when you made them, so you can go back and see what may have caused your rankings to drop if they take a turn for the worse.
Edit: I suppose the different types of fonts in use, their spacing, etc., also called typography, could potentially affect how visitors interact with your website such as long how they stay on the site which could indirectly impact rankings.
